    1. Update Re: Michael KELLY/Mary COLLINS, Co Clare, Ireland
    2. John FLANAGAN
    3. I recently posted my descendancy from Michael KELLY and Mary COLLINS of County Clare, Ireland. I recently commisioned the Clare Heritage Centre to do a research on my FLANAGAN and KELLY lineage from Clare. I'm happy to say that I just recently received their very nice and comprehensive report. I thought that I would update this for you. It has one more generation back from Michael and Mary. ( I got two additional generations out of the COLLINS line <GRIN> ). I included only two generations this time, since the other information is still valid. Here is my update now I can say I descend from Michael KELLY and Bridget LEARY: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FIRST GENERATION 1. Michael KELLY was a farmer. He resided in Cahermaan, Killeany, Clare, Ireland. This old Civil Parish of Killeany is part of the ecclesiastical Parish of Lisdoonvarna. 3. Hi Kelley Researchers, Now if you get tired of this just let me know. Sincerely, Helen in Pa. THE KELLEY CLAN MAGAZINE Published Occasionally by: James O. Stewart, R.D. No. 1 Box 102, Brownsville, Pa. NUMBER Two July 4, 1937. Free and worth it. MISS ELIZABETH KELLEY On her sixty-sixth birthday, January 8, 1937. Miss Elizabeth Alice Kelley passed away at the Kelley Homestead near Jefferson, Penn'a. Her death was caused by bronchial trouble. She was a daughter of Freeman Kelley and Mary Ann (Sharpnack) Kelley. This Freeman Kelley was a son of Samuel Force Kelley and Alice (Carter) Kelley. Samuel Force Kelley was a son of our ancestor William Kelley, Senior. Miss Kelley is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Grant Kelley of Dormont, Pa., Mrs. Harry Victor Lucas of Uniontown, Pa., Miss Ida Mae Kelley at home and James Edward (our clan president) at home. She had been a member of the Carmichaels Presbyterian Church since the age of fifteen years and she was a lifelong worker in Sunday School and Church wherever she was located. On the afternoon of the Sunday after her death the funeral services were held in the new Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels in charge of Rev. I.N. Crooks and Rev. J.O. Miller. She was buried by the side of her parents in Laurel Point Cemetery at Carmichaels. Miss Kelley was one of the most widely known teachers in Southwestern Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Greene Academy of Carmichaels in the class of 1888. It was probably in the winter of 1893-1894 that she taught the Heistersburg district school in Luzerne Township Fayette County, Pa. She roomed and boarded at the home of her Uncle Levi Kelley and Levi's son Emmor was one of her pupils. On the night of the last day of school she gave an old-fashioned district school exhibition. This consisted of recitations, music, dialogues, and charades. As a grand ending there were three tableaux posed by pupils in costume, while red lights burned at the front of the platform to give a spectacular effect. People for miles around came in their buggies to see the exhibition. It was during that winter and to a certain extent at the close of the preceding winter that the state began to furnish free books to the pupils. There was much discussion in the community as to the merits of the new plan. Levi said he was going to by Emmor's books even if the rest did get free books, as he thought it taught a boy to be careful of things if he owned his own books but he would become careless of the books if they were not his own. (Levi was not entirely wrong, I know, I used to be a teacher.). Miss Kelley, however, said she liked the new way for whenever she wanted to put a pupil into a new class she could do so right then without having to wait for the parents to buy books. In the year 1895 she graduated from the Southwestern State Normal School at California, Pa. as valedictorian of the class. Then she taught district schools. Next she taught at Shady Park School in North Braddock, Pa., as Principal and teacher for ten years. Harry W. Colmery, National Commander of the American Legion, was one of her pupils there for four years. Then she was principal and teacher at Mansfield School in Carnegie, Pa. for six years. She retired three years ago. ______Notes_______ Claude E. Santee is one of this years graduates of the Iowa Falls, Iowa, High School. He was on the football team, the baseball team and the track team. He made the National Honorary Society and the Thespian Society. Edgar C. Hastings has been elected superintendent of the Asbury M.E. Sunday School of Uniontown, Pa to succeed the late Alfred E. Jones. Mrs. Earl Kelley is Secretary of the Ladies' Aid Society of the M.E. Church of Carmichaels. Fred G. Kelley is Jr. Past Councilor of Uniontown Council No. 167 of the Jr. O.U.A.M. Mr. and Mrs. Cephas Kelley are now living on the Frank Garrett farm near Marianna. Mr. Kelley purchased this farm recently. Martha Fern Loos of California, Pa. is on the honor roll of the Eastern Pike Run Township High School. She is a granddaughter of Rev. Adam R. Rush. Arthur and Virginia Christopher were among the talented Fayette County children who helped to broadcast music from Station WJAS of Pittsburgh February 13th. They are the children of Ralph and Edith Antram Christopher. Congratulations and best wished to Mr. and Mrs. Vaughan Christopher of Rices Landing, recent newly weds. Mrs. Christopher is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Boger of Clarksville. Miss Christine Lucas was dramatic counselor at Camp Minnetoska, near Hutton, Maryland, last summer. She was so successful that the camp directors have appointed her head counselor for the summer of 1937. Miss Lucas teaches English in the Uniontown High School. Members of the clan will be interested in the announcement of the marriage of Miss Thelma Grace Crile and James Gordon Reed on Christmas Day 1935. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Crile of Washington, Pa. She is a graduate of the Washington High School in Washington, Pa. Mr. Reed is a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College in the class of 1936. Mr. and Mrs. Reed are living in New Kensington, Pa. where Mr. Reed is with the Goodrich Rubber Company. Miss Mary Stewart Kelley, one of our Brownsville teachers, is attending summer school at West Chester State Teachers College. Of course you are going to the Reunion which will be held at Hewitt Church in Rices Landing on Sunday before Labor Day. Mrs. Walter Crile and Mrs. Martha Anderson have contributed money to help pay the postage on these magazines. Many thanks to these patriotic ladies. Be sure to send a postal or note stating that you received this magazine. Even if you wrote before, write this time. Keep this magazine in the family bible. The historian is trying to learn if Oliver Hudson Kelley, who was one of the founders of the Grange, was connected with our clan. more to come...

KEEP THIS MAGAZINE IN THE FAMILY BIBLE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE A few days after the Kelley reunion for 1936 your historian went to Rices Landing and learned that the session of the Hewitt Presbyterian Church had consented to let the church be used for the 1937 reunion. 3. Hi all, I found one copy and decided to send this tonight. There is much more on genealogy which I will send tommorrow. Sincerely, Helen THE KELLEY CLAN MAGAZINE Published by James O. Stewart, R.D. No. 1 Box 102, Brownsville, Penna. NUMBER TWENTY-FIVE SUMMER OF 1950 THROUGH IRELAND In the summer of the year 1908 your historian spent three months in Ireland with his camera. He has a set of lantern slides which he made from his negatives. For a while he lectured at schools but the movies gradually crowded out still pictures so he retired from the lecture field. He believes that the youngsters of the clan would be interested in an old-fashioned stereopticon lecture so the stereopticon and the pictures have been resurrected and the illustrated lecture will be given at the 1950 reunion. As the pictures are projected upon the screen by the stereopticon the historian will tell about Ireland's beautiful scenery, its castles and schools, its life in city and country, the games of the children, the wit and humor of the people. Not one sentence of this talk has been taken from books. In his own words the historian will tell what he saw. A feature of the lecture will be the showing of several Autochromes. In the year 1907 the Lumiere brothers in France invented the Autochrome process, the first commercially practical method of making natural color photographs. Your historian was one of the first to experiment with them. These Autochromes made in the infancy of color photography are very interesting. From the Brownsville Clipper-Monitor of December 4, 1908 we quote the following article writing by editor Edwin P. Crouse" "James O. Stewart, son of John O. Stewart, of Luzerne township, is home from a trip abroad during which he sent about four months in Ireland and saw that part of Great Britian thoroughly. "Mr. Stewart is an enthusiastic amateur photographer and brought home some fine color plates in which the objects appear in their own colors. He has interior and outdoor views of this character which are very attractive. He was permitted to get some good views at the Earl of Dunraven's Place and the Duke of Abercorn's estate. Other pictures show the Blarney Stone, Giant's Causeway and a street in a village deserted by emigration. "Mr/ Stewart, who is a graduaate of W.&J., also haad a course in textiles at the Philadelphia Commercial Museum and was designer for an Alabama cotton mill for some time. In his trip abroaad this time he followed a definite plan of not undertaking too much but of seeing thoroughly what he mapped out. In this way he got acquainted with rural and urban Ireland as few tourists do. "One photograph of boys in Limerick is particularly interesting. In Ireland a favorite diversion of boys is walking on the hands and all try to excel in this sport. Mr. Stewart got a number of lads lined up and in a series of three pictures he shows the preparation, spring and actuall feat of walking on hands. He is a capable and observing young man and all of his acquaintances are glad to hear of his success." You will never be sorry if you bring the children to the 1950 reunion to see these pictures. This reunion will be held in the Washington (Pa.) park on the Sunday before Labor Dday in the large old pavilion, the first one as you enter the park. The dinner will be the usual clan dinner. Bring your share and bring a little extra for the historian and his assistant who operated the stereoptiocon. Also bring your own cups and silverware and coffee pot. Coffee will be made for all by the committee. Seventy-eight were present. Each person who registered was given a large envelope containing magazines No. 20, No. 21, and No. 22. The Thomas family of Baltimore came the farthest. The clan presented $15,93 to the historian to help him in publishing the magazine. Thank you so much but that amount does not go far now. It was decided to hold the 1948 reunion at Conneaut. The following officers were elected for the coming year: President, Walter Kelley Vice President, Wynn Kelley Secretary, Mary Crane Teasurer, W.W. Kelley The 1948 reunion was held at Conneaut, Ohio. 3. Hi all Kelley researchers, I can add to the newsletter info. I have some copies of the Kelley Clan Newsletter, published by one James O. Stewart. If you are all interested, I will start sending some of the info from them to the list. I shared with another list and was griped at about monopolizing the list so I quit sending info. If you all want it, just let me know and I will try to send it out to you, but I want all to want it. Sincerely, Helen in Pa. ---------- > From: dkelley@digitalis.net > To: KELLEY-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Fw: kelley genealogy > Date: Sunday, June 07, 1998 2:26 AM > > Duane Kelly <dkelly@digitalis.net > I have never heard of this newsletter either and would like info on it > please. > Valerie Kelly > ---------- > > From: KNW1013@aol.com > > To: KELLEY-L@rootsweb.com > > Subject: Re: kelley genealogy > > Date: Saturday, June 06, 1998 9:04 PM > > > > In a message dated 98-06-05 21:37:04 EDT, rlouk@valu-line.net writes: > > > > << I am trying to find out about my order > > for the Kelley Heritage Newsletter, and would appreciate any > > help on getting this newsletter, and if it is still in print. >> > > > > > > I have never heard of this newsletter, I also would like info on it > please. > > > > Thanks, > > Debra

    1. My Kelley Problem
    2. Paula Thank you for the welcome: Hi All, This is my problem: My father was born Michael Moran Kelley on Feb 14, 1942 in Braddock General Hospital, Allegheny PA. His parents were Harold Stanley Kelley, and Olive Elizabeth Fundis. My Grandmother Olive remarried and her second husband Raymond Sturm adopted my father when he was 16. As far as I know this is how the story goes: Olive Fundis lived in Trafford PA, Olive and Harold ran off to get married to Wheeling WV around 1940-1941,shortly after Harold went off to the service (which branch I have no idea). Olive recieved a "Dear John" letter while he was in the service. Olive went off and had the baby and she remarried in Nov of 1946 when my dad was 4. I would like to find information on Harold's family. My grandmother is still living, and I am unable to wiggle very much information from her. All I have to go on is this: Harold Kelley was two years older than my grandmother (she was born in 1922), he lived with his mother parents ( surname unknown) in Pitcarin, Allegheny County PA, he had a sister Olive (same as my grandmother) who may have lived in Wall, Allegheny County PA. My grandmother remembers going to his fathers funeral but can not ( or will not) remember his name, this would have been before 1960 because my grandmother moved out of state at that time. I know there was a divorce in 1946 because there is one on file in Westmoreland County PA. I have checked with Ohio County (Wheeling) and they say they have no marriage record. Sorry to be so long winded, I do not have to contact Mr Kelley ( if he is still alive) I would just like some family history. If anybody has any suggestion please feel free Terry from Turtle Creek PA
