    3. Thought this might be of interest to Kelley researchers: THE OBITUARY DAILY TIMES <http://www.rootsweb.com/~obituary> <GEN-OBIT-L-request@rootsweb.com> has indexed more than two million obituaries from around the world since it began four years ago, reports Denis Savard, its founder and editor. GEN-OBIT contributors index obituaries from their local newspapers. These are gathered to make daily indexes of current obituaries. Approximately 2,000 obituaries are now indexed daily. Contributors to GEN-OBIT are usually family surname genealogists, and can request from each other a complete copy (personaly retyped) of a particular obituary. 1. Joseph Kelley 1830 Perry Co, IL
    2. On page 125, lines 9 and 10, of the 1830 census of Perry Co, Illinois are: Joseph Kelley 200001-20001 Reuben Kelley 00001-10001 This Reuben Kelley is the son of Reuben and Lavisa Kelley of Laurens Co, SC and Bedford Co, TN and his wife is Elizabeth Culberson Jones, the daughter of Matthew and Rachel Gallegly Jones, also of Laurens Co, SC, Bedford Co, TN and Perry Co, Illinois. I don't know who Joseph Kelley is. He is not a brother of Reuben. Reuben's father died in 1815 in Bedford Co, TN and his land was bought by two of the heirs. Eight shares were mentioned and eight heirs have been identified--no room for Joseph. Reuben Kelley, Sr. was the son of Nelson Kelley of Stafford and Fairfax Co, VA; Anson Co, NC; Laurens Co, SC; and Bedford Co, TN. It appears Nelson Kelley had a son, William Kelley, who married Martha (b 1778), daughter of Edward Garrett of Laurens Co, SC. Could this Joseph be a son of William and Martha Garrett Kelley? 1. Re: Spelling
    2. JAMES R KELLY
    3. Let me put in my two cents worth. In my family it has happened with several branches of the family. My GG Father John Kelly brought his family of wife, 10 boys and one girl to the US from County Cork Ireland about 1867. Two or three of the boys changed the spelling of their names to Kelley. In my own fathers family two of his brothers changed the spelling of their names to Kelley. In the case of my uncles it was for business reasons. At the time there was a lot of prejudice against Irishman and Kelley was accepted as the English version of the spelling of the name. It was better for their business if people thought they were from England. ----Original Message----- From: Christopher P Kelley <ckelley84@juno.com> To: KELLEY-L@rootsweb.com <KELLEY-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, July 24, 1999 10:43 AM Subject: Spelling >I was reading through past messages from the list a little while ago when >I came across the large spelling discussion from March, and a question >became evident to me. >My family's version of the Kelley/Kelly schism (for want of a better >term) says that a distant relative got mad at the family and left, >changing his name from "Kelly" to "Kelley." 1. Henry Kelly
    2. Has everyone left for the summer???? Well, I'm going to try and see if anyone has heard of this family. I'm looking for the children of Henry and Catherine Kelly from Monroe County, West Va. They went to Oregon City, Mo about 1860 or so. I've heard he was a sheriff in West Va. in 1858 but not 100% sure of that. Herney and Catherine had several children and one is my greatgrandfather Andrew Jackson Kelly. Andrew married a Lydia Burns in Roseburg Ogregon and they stayed there for awhile then off to Montana they went. If anyone has any information please let me know. Thanks, Vicki

    1. Kelly, William (Thomas): Ireland>Ga, mid 1800's
    2. My first message may have gotten posted even though I sent it to the wrong email address. If so, I apoligize for the duplicate. William Kelly married Mary Dunn January 30, 1853 in Savannah, Ga. There are no more church records as a fire destroyed many of the records. His daughter, Elizabeth Aloysious Kelly was born 11/23/1853 either in Chatham or Screven Counties. I can't find him in the 1850, 1860, 1870 census for these counties. I can't find him in the 1850 census for surrounding counties. I haven't found a naturalization record on him. I think he was dead by 1871 but I haven't found any thing to tell me when died or where died. It's possible he fought and died in the Civil War but I was told these records don't give much information. I have thought about the possiblity that he worked for the railroad but don't know if there are any records to look at. I've thought about the possiblity that he lived elsewhere prior to Ga. but don't have a clue as to where else to look. I can't find a trace of him before or after 1853. Any suggestions? Thanks Mary Ellen Owen.

    1. My sister Eleizabeth Olga Kelly DOB late 1960's
    2. Kerry L. Kelly
    3. I was given this list as a possible resource for finding my sister who was adopted. My name is Kerry Lynn Kelly. I was born in Ottawa, Canada. My father was Herbert Kelly, jr. My mother was Barbara nee Edey (or Edie). His father was Herbert Kelly and he emigrated from Liverpool when he was a young man. I know of an aunt "Dolly" who was his sister and still (?) lives in England. She would be approxiamately 85 years old. I am searching for relatives but especially my sister was named Elizabeth Olga Kelly (possibly Olga Elizabeth Kelly). I believe she was adopted when she was approximately 18 months in Montreal. I know the Children's Aid Society was involved and that she had a fractured or broken arm or leg and possibly pneumonia. This would be around 1967-69. If anyone knows of here whereabouts please, I am trying to make contact.

    2. Kevin & Louisa Horton
    3. Hi Paula and list, I'm researching my husband, Kevin's side of the family and was quite pleased to find that there was a Kelly list. I'm trying to find anyone with information on a William Kelly dob abt 1903-1904 from PA - he married a Bertha Lau dob: abt 1905-1907. Acdg. to the birth cert for on of their children (Louise Viola Kelly) - William Kelly was originally from Pennsylvania. Unfortunaely we have no information about what part of PA. This same certificate stated that Bertha Lau was originally from Oregon & again no specific part of Oregon mentioned. Side note: William Kelly was hired on as a "laborer" to work on the "Cuesta Grade" in San Luis Obispo in the 1930's and Bertha's occupation at that time was "house-wife." Would appreciate any information particularly from anyone researching the Kelly's of PA. Thanks so much, Louisa Luce-Horton
