    1. Giles Kelley
    2. J. March
    3. O.K. out there in Kelley cousin land. I don't think Giles who married to Martha Ford DeJarnette is my Giles. FROM MY MANY NOTES::: Conflict in that that Giles on census in 1810 and 1820 in KY still. My Giles was on census in Clark Co./Pike Co. by then. Euline Giles Kelley Sr. and Sarah had Samuel b 1806, William, James b 1806, Giles b 1773 and Susannah. All born VG.... Euline Giles Kelley Sr. and Sarah Lightfoot's son Giles Jr. who married DeJarnette had Giles III, Daniel born 1801 VG, Patsy and Polly (married McGlasson), Emily, Susannah and John W. Martha Ford DeJarnette Kelley died either in childbirth or shortly after birth of John W in 1816. My Giles had Sampson b 1796, William b 1974 TN, Elijah b 1800 TN, Polly (married McFadden). He was in IL by 1804 and then AR by 1815. My Giles had William, Elijah, Polly and Sampson. Elijah's obits (written in 1881)said that his mother instructed him to take the new testament, study and follow. So she was probably still alive when he was 10 plus years old...maybe 1810 or so. She may have died before they came to AR but after TN and probably in IL. Elijah had schooling in Decatur Co. Ala, probably after he married his first Elizabeth because first 2 or so children born AL. I do believe I found property there in Elijah's name. (don't have my notes on that close). David Kelley thinks Giles Sr. had James and he had Giles and that may be ours. He also thinks that maybe a Giles that was in Chatham Co. NC in 1790 and left there for TN about the time our Giles was on the move might be the connection. I have found where a Giles b before 1779 Halifax NC married Selah Wall b before 1779. I sent my sister a note that I found a Giles married to a Martha or Margaret Farris. Elijah and his first Elizabeth had a daughter named Margaret Farris Kelley. May be a good hint at his mother's maiden name..... Jim Winston or Don Bone said there was an Indian massacre having to do with William Kelley wife Rebecca McMahan's family. what is the story.... There was a brother Rev Samuel Kelley who lived in Howard Co. AR. A writeup found by David Kelley??? or a bio on the AR pages shows about a Rev. Samuel B. Kelley who was the youngest son that came with a Scott caravan from TN to AR thru all the wilds and there was also an indian massacre --- another possible cousin said that her relative came from TN to AR with the J. O. Scott caravan, Are all of these related, are they the same caravan. This Rev. Samuel BURKE KELLEY had settled in Nashville, Pike Co. (They were from Nashville TN and brought the name with them) (story from 1942). Nashville is now in Howard County at border line of Pike Co. AR. Could he be the youngest son of my Sampson, the brother between William and Giles. And will Martha make up with George since he broke up with Alice....Ha Ha Ha It does start to sound like a commercial for a soap... OK cousins, tell me about the massacres and anything else on here you know about. June March jmarch@pe.net a Texan in California My Mary Elizabeth Kelley married Dennis Houston Parsons her Father James Ashley Kelley was the son of Elijah Kelley and his second Elizabeth.

    1. KELLY, Carter David Sr.: ?>AL>IL; late 1800's to early 1900's
    2. My maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Fay Kelley (b November 17, 1908 in Vinemont, Cullman County, AL;d June 03, 1991 in St. Petersburg, FL) who married Roy Shelby Collier, Sr. (b March 07, 1904 in Russellville, KY;d October 27, 1981 in St. Petersburg, FL) on April 05, 1925 in Decatur, AL. Her father was Carter David Kelley (b?;d?) who married Annie Lavaga Mitchell (b September 06, 1889 in Hartselle, AL; d October 17, 1926 and buried in Vinemont, AL). They had three children, Henry Mitchell (b 1907), Elizabeth Fay (above) and Annie Lee (b 1912). After Annie Lavaga died, Carter moved to the Chicago, IL area, remarried and had a son, Carter David Kelley, Jr. That's all I know. I have been unable, so far, to find any information on Carter or his family. If anyone has any information that could help, I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks David Thrasher Hartselle, AL

Strange man, one census showed him as a physician, another an Artist.. yet the same man.. what a gifted man! There did not apprear to be any other Kelley's anywhere near him in Mississippi,, maybe he left KY for a reason??? Anyone see this man's name in the records of Kentucky anywhere? Have not even been able to locate his death and burial either. After he died, his wife left Ms and moved to Texas with her children, where she married her son in law's widowed father. Thanks for any clues Joel H. Hutto

    1. Black Sheep In The Family?
    2. Paula Ward
    3. The following article is from Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter and is copyright 1998 by Richard W. Eastman and Ancestry, Inc. It is re-published here with the permission of the author. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - Black Sheep In The Family Do you have any ax-murderers, traitors, thieves or other notorious villains lurking in your family tree? I bet you do; almost everyone has one or more "black sheep" ancestors. And these scoundrels are what makes genealogy research so much fun! If you can find such a rascal in your ancestry, you may qualify for the International Black Sheep Society of Genealogists. Jeff Scism, of San Bernardino, Calif., formed the Internet group a year ago and launched its Web site in January. Starting with two dozen members, the society now has 125 members. The rules are simple: You must have someone in the family, preferably in your direct lines, who's "a dastardly, infamous individual of public knowledge and ill repute." Stuffed shirts with pure blue blood ancestry need not apply. I like this society already! Ideally, you should be able to claim descent from kidnappers, armed robbers, assassins, thieves who stole "any item of fame," members of infamous gangs, and anyone involved in witchcraft or among the FBI's "Most Wanted." "Weirdness counts," says Scism. He even has a catchall category for ancestors causing "extreme public embarrassment," such as Lady Godiva. "If you're doing genealogical research, and you find nothing but blase people, it's really boring and you're going to quit," Scism says. But "if you do this long enough, you will find you have a black sheep in your family that nobody talks about." Despite the passage of time, sometimes centuries, a few members don't want their full names linked to scoundrel relatives. So only their first names are listed on the Web site. Researching back to the 10th century, Janni Belgum of Calgary, Alberta, found a Norwegian earl nicknamed "Skull Splitter." A rather bloody Viking, she figures. Fast-forwarding several centuries, Dianna Fisher of Corvallis, Ore., acknowledges John Billington, whom she places on the Mayflower in 1620 as well as on the blacklist: the first colonist hanged for murder. In the "public embarrassment category, one member claims descent from James Durham. He was a preacher in Wells, Texas, in the late 1800s who tried to re-create Jesus' walk on water. To pull off a "miracle," Durham slipped a board just below the surface of a pond and left. While he was gone, two boys sawed the board almost in half. When Durham took his first step before a big crowd, the board broke and he got dunked. Take a look at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~blksheep/index.html and make sure your SoundBlaster card is hooked up. ============================================================== Paula Kelley Ward San Antonio, Texas pward@express-news.net
