It's been a while since I posted, and I know less about our Kelly's than I did before (!) so here I go again... William D. and Michael Kelly b. 22 Oct, year and place unknown. (previously believed to be in Council Bluffs, IA). William married Mary (Molly) KEHLER perhaps in Greenwood NE, they had a daughter Mary Theresa KELLY b.23 Oct 1888. William died in Colorado mines, and Molly married his brother Michael, they had a son named Edward. Edward was attending Notre Dame university in 1920,. when Michael and Molly were killed in a car accident in Greenwood. Mary Theresa (Mamie) married Charles Leroy WHITE, lived in TX and NE, he abandoned her with two small sons, Charles Leroy Jr. and William. The only place we know for sure is Greenwood, Cass Co., NE. Sound familiar to anyone? Thanks for your time and help...Jo
This may have no relationship whatever but my McPartlin line was from townland: Drummerkeane, Parish: Cloone, Barony: Carrigallen, District: Mohill in County Leitrim. The McPartlin immigrant married a Kelly. Allegedly they were from Tyrone and the Kelly he married was born in the USA but I have not been successful in finding her USA birth record. They were in Ireland during the Penal Years and getting around on foot between Tyrone and Leitrim would have been tedious. Can't be certain, but these Kelly's may have had a connection to Letrim. Kelly married into: Kirkham, Patterson, Tetrick and Farrens. WHO WERE PARENTS OF WILLIAM KELLY IN IRELAND ? Happy to share what I have on this family. Please reply - Joan
I have a new theory about my Patrick (a.k.a. John) Kelly born about 1838. His marriage certificate (in co. Galway) lists his residence at the time of marriage as "Antfield" and his father's name as "John Kelly". The only "Antfield" townland that I can find in Ireland is in Co. Leitrim. This Leitrim townland is located in civil parish & catholic parish, Annaduff, barony of Moyhill. Anybody else out there have a Kelly from Leitrim? Hi All, This is my first posting to this list and I know it is a long shot but I'm hoping for the best. I am looking for the parents of birth date of my ggrandmother. I know she was Irish or of Irish descent. Her name is Mary Kelly and the only info I have on her is that she married James McDonald in 1877 May 30th in Kings Cove parish on Burnt Island in Newfoundland. I'm not sure if she or her parents (probably her parents) were from Ireland or where in Ireland they all originated from. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help in advance. Dear Friends, I'm new to the internet, but not to sharing genealogy! I love this resource and all the possible connections. I hope someone can help. We have found that an ancestor is named Hannah Kelley. She was born sometime in the 1780's. She married Enoch Dean, probably in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. She died in the early 1840's in western PA, probably Butler County. (The family was in Mercer, Lawrence and Butler areas.) Enoch's family came from Baltimore (now Carroll) county Maryland to Huntingdon County Pennsylvania and then several of them wen tto western PA. I have found some Kelley families that made the same trek -- at least as far as Huntingdon. I noted that one family even had an Abel W. Kelley born in the 1780's. This is interesting because Hannah named her oldest son Abel W. Somehow, though, I'm missing a connection. I noted that some of Abel's family ended up in West Virginia, but that's all I've come up with on him. Anyone know anything? Thanks for reading this. Lucy
I thought I saw somebody asking about this JONES/KELLY union. Hope it helps somebody ! Jones, John Tecumseh The 20th Century Biographical Dictionary of Notable Americans, Vol.6, p.140 JONES, John Tecumseh, clergyman, was born in Canada, Jan. 1, 1800. He was a half-breed Chippewa Indian. He was educated at Madison university, N.Y., and was adopted by the Ottawa tribe of Indians. He married Jane Kelly, a native of Maine, who was a missionary among the Ottawa Indians in Franklin county, Kansas Territory. He was a co-worker with Mr. Meeker in organizing Baptist churches in Kansas, and organized the First Baptist church of Ottawa, which, in 1860, had nearly one hundred baptized Indian members. The Baptist convention at Atchison, Kan., in October, 1880, through the suggestion of Mr. Jones, organized the Roger Williams university on the Ottawa reservation, the Indians [p.141] presenting the land through an act of congress setting apart 20,000 acres of the reservation for an institution of learning, and Mr. Jones and three other Indians with two white men constituted the first board of trustees. In August, 1862, they authorized the sale of 5000 acres at $1.25 per acre to establish the school. On April 21, 1865, a new charter was obtained by I.S. Kalloch, C.C. Hutchinson, John G. Pratt, James Wind, William Hurt, Joseph King and John Tecumseh Jones as petitioners, and at the request of the Indians the name Ottawa was substituted for Roger Williams, and Ottawa university began its career with I.S. Kalloch as president. Mr. Jones died in Ottawa, Kan., Aug. 16, 1872, and his widow returned to East North Yarmouth, Maine, where she resided in 1901. David A. Well, I am back. Not that easy to get rid of me....See, I never paid attention to the bottoms of these listed e-mails before...Well, that is until now. Says I should pass on my success story, so here goes....So if I get flamed OK....If I get thrown off the list OK...(NOT!) Hey, you two who are thinking I shouldn't be doing this...Yea, YOU!!! You two..You know who you are....didn't think I knew did you...HA! Ya know I only started doing genealogy about a year ago. Actually been pretty easy for me so far. Have found 2 published books on collateral lines all the way back to before the 1750's, got access to a published CD-ROM on my mothers family side. Found my g-greatgrandmothers whole line published on the Internet. Found my other g-grandmothers full line by one little press of a button in a search engine. Oh, I know I could go on and on.....But, ya know I still have not to this day found my main KELLY line past 1850...I will. I have through research and others found my g-g-grandfathers recollections weren't the best. I have eliminated mostly what he put in an autobiography, while verifying other things. I did find a couple tidbits of information that was startling to say the least. The Civil War is long over, but the history remains with us forever. Almost all of us, if we search, has an ancestor or two or many more who served both North and South alike. The most startling revelation to date is that my one of my great-great-grandfathers was with the 11th Virginia, Kempers Brigade, Picketts Division on July 3, 1862 at Gettysburg. I have found other tidbits and so on and so forth.....Is this success? Yes.... But, you know what? The most successful story I have doesn't involve genealogy directly. No, the most succesful thing about all this research I am undertaking is meeting people. People like you who prove this world is still kind hearted, still cares. It shows me that no matter where in this land or in this world we exist we are all basically the same. We will bend over backwards to help our fellow man in what ever way we can, be it large or small. I have met descendants of ancestors, met people who don't connect, and have kindled full blown friendships. Nope, the greatest success story for me is I met YOU!!! You allowed me a moment of time to come into your life, no matter how brief and share a part of me with you. You have allowed me the priviledge of entering your life and you shared with me your life. People I have never met, probably will not face to face, people I had no idea existed....but, you did...... Is this success? Damn right in my book!!!! Thanks all for everything. If I never find another KELLY who is connected to me, so be it. But, ya know what? Figure we connect somewhere along the way........ OOPS! Thanks list owner for the time and bandwidth.... Mike

I am trying this again..... http://www.umdl.umich.edu/moa/ You just have to try this spot...just started check Kelleys and my husband wants a turn on the net....bah humbug.... If you are related to Commander James Douglass J. Kelley, U.S.N. you will find several references as well as a great picture of him. There is an unfinished manuscript about Patrick O;'Kelley and Jemmy his brother, sons of old Phelim O'Kelley, an honest hog-trotter of west of Ireland.... There is a story about a Mr. Kelley a pastor who was killed as (untrue) a horsetheif cause they didn't want him preaching in the MO, Ind. area. Written about Oct 1861.... Go and have fun June March jmarch@pe.net
Hi Mike. Saw your postings and was impressed with what you've gotten from when you & I first had contact. I agree with the thoughts you so nicely expressed and want to add how much I've been impressed with how knowledgeable so many people on these various lists are. I've picked up a lot just from reading other peoples questions and the answers. I'm still looking for my elusive William Kelly. If I have to wait until the final day, he and I are going to have a very long chat........too bad credit cards weren't around sooner. Good luck to you. Mary Ellen Owen
