    3. I have Anna KELLY married to James BROWN, b. Rockbridge County, VA, 1776. Anna was 2nd wife to James. James 1st wife *might* have been Helen KELLY. Anna and James were in McMinn County, TN, 1825-1833; in Murray County, GA, 1839-1842; in DeKalb County, AL, from 1845 on. James died in 1876, Anna died in 1878- both buried at Sand Mountain, DeKalb, AL. My husband's line is through James and the 1st wife. But if anyone is connected to this family, I'd like to hear from you and maybe figure out more about the KELLYs and the BROWNs. 1. Orange
    2. Our family, also, has an oral tradition of the wearing of the orange on St. Patrick's Day; but, whether this comes from the Kelleys, Flannigans, Burnes, or other unknown family lines, I can't say. Some of the family were said to be Scotch-Irish. Sharon Agte Descended from the elusive "Jim Kelley of Butler Co. Al."

    1. Orange Irish
    2. Out of curiosity concerning Orange Irish I e-mailed a fellow researcher with a father born in Catholic Ireland (O'Sullivan). Her amusing response follows: My father always told me the ORANGE IRISH were the Northern Irish. When he was a very small boy, his much older brothers took a horse and braided the tail and the mane with orange ribbons on St. Patrick' Day. They tied a large orange ribbon around Dad's neck as a bow and gave the horse a swat. It went directly to the next farm where Dad's grandpa Dagen lived. When his Grandfather saw him he helped him down off the horse and gave him a threshing for wearing orange on St. Pat's Day. charlieann

I have been working on a KELLY mystery for some time and I thought someone on this list just might be able to help. (Please forgive me if one of my Kelly cousins has beat me to this. I have an ancient computer that makes handling volume email a problem, so it takes me some time to review digests). I am unable to find documentation of Mary Adeline ("Addie") KELLY's death, or marriage. Her known family data is below. She has a lengthy KELLY pedigree back to Indiana in the revolutionary war days, but she herself remains obscure. Her name at the time of death was probably (Mary) Adeline (or "Addie") PATRICK. Her husband's given name was probably Howard, William, or Franklin. They resided in Coles and Cumberland counties in IL, USA (ca. 1850-1920) I am truly "stumped" on this one.
