    1. EARL of KELLEE
    2. Diane Andreasen
    3. Has anyone run across the EARL of KELLEE (KELLIE) while searching the KELLEY family?? This is supposed to be an ancestor of mine says an obit of a granddaughter of my Benjamin KELLEY b c 1772 (1850 Wayne Co., PA census says b in NYS) . However, family lore says the KELLEY's came to the US on their own ship (they were shipbuilders) from Ireland/England. Any comments appreciated. Diane

    2. I am researching my father's family. My great grandfather was Michael Kelly married to Catherine Toomey in Ireland. Michael Kelly Jr(his son) was born April, 1884 (died 1955) and came to the US around 1895. He married Maria Comerford in 1912. She was also from Ireland. They spent most of their lives in the Bronx around the Grand Concourse area. I know he had a brother Dennis and a brother John. Some relatives lived near Fordham Rd in the Bronx. But we lost touch with them. Michael and Maria had five children, Catherine, Mary, Alice, Nancy and Michael III, my father. There is also an Anna Kelly listed on my fathers' baptismal certificate in 1914. Any connections out there?

    1. KELLY/FANNING/O'NEIL
    2. I haven't posted this in a while so here is my family search: I am hoping to find some info on my great-great uncle, John KELLY (or KELLEY). He was from Co. Kerry, Ire., born c. 1845, may have emigrated in 1879 as his brother Patrick did. Brothers Patrick, Denis, and John went to the salt or silver mines in Utah and may all have become citizens in 1886. John moved to Chicago, IL and Patrick and Denis moved to Massachusetts. John had two daughters: Florence Kelly O"NEILL and Lu Kelly FANNING. My parents visited them in Chicago in 1951 and we have lost touch since then. Does anyone know of these families or have any idea of where I might start a search (by mail) in Chicago? Thanks in anticipation of your help! Patsy

    2. J L RIDLEY
    3. Hi everyone, found this today when I was looking for something entirely different, and I don't think this guy belongs to me, but the Kelley/Kelly clans have proven so elusive for some of us that I thought I'd post it to the list, in case it can help someone else. There is an Israel Kelley listed on the 1790 Census for Cosikton District, Northampton County, PA. The census shows 2 free white males age 16 and over (including head of household), 2 free white males age under 16, and 2 free white females, ages undetermined. 1. KELLEY in Iowa
    2. Kelley, Richard
    3. I am looking for more information on William KELLEY, b. 1820-23 in Ireland, perhaps Mayo; and his brother Thomas KELLEY, b. 1825-27. They came to US together about 1847, probably to New York City, then to Syracuse, NY by 1850, where William married Bridget KEYES. Both families moved to Iowa around 1856, first to Delaware County, then to Early, in Sac County, around 1870. Both had large families, and William's son Walter, my gr-grandfather, moved to Tyler, Minnesota and had a large family of his own. Any information you may have, particularly details on place and date of birth, or on William's ancestor's, would be greatly appreciated. Richard C. Kelley richard.kelley@metrokc.gov

    3. My grandfather John Kelly was from Ballinderry, Galway, his father was Patrick Kelly and mother was Catherine Mullens. John had a brother Michael that came to NY cc 1900. That's about all the information we have on him. Would like to find him or his family. John went to Bayonne, NJ and married Sarah Sweeney, but haven't been able to find where they married believe it to be about 1891. Their first child my father was Patrick born in Bayonne, NJ. 1897,by 1899 they lived in Brooklyn, NY. Two things I need to find and that is what year and ship did they come over on and when did they marry. Other than that and Michael I have found my family all in Ballinasloe, Galway and had the chance to meet them in 97. Thanks Lorraine "Kelly" Conroy

    3. Anna Kate Kelly http://www.rmplc.co.uk/eduweb/sites/phind/ 3rd class (Kelly) Miss Anna Kate Kelly was travelling from County Mayo, Ireland to Chicago, Illinois. She was to join her cousins, Anna and Mary Garvey, who lived at 303 Eugenie Street. Anna boarded the Titanic at Queenstown. Kelly said that the stewards did not wake the steerage passengers in time the night of the collision. Those third class passenger who became alarmed and went up on deck were told to go back as there was no danger. Anna Kelly escaped lifeboat 16. Later, she was haunted by the "wild scenes on the boat just before it went down." Kelley was hospitalized in New York City. Anna Kelly travelled from New York with fellow survivor Anna McGowan. They had been released from the hospital wearing their nightgowns, a pair of old shoes someone had given them, and a coat. They were met in Chicago by Dr. Mary O'Brien Porter of the Catholic Woman's league protectorate. Dr. O'Brien Porter appealed to the Mayor of Chicago to give some of the funds raised in the city to the two young women.

    3. Well, I went over to treemaker, then I went over to ancestry to try to find the ships lists again. Made a few clicks and found the 1790 census. It is reconstruction from tax lists, but it had two hits for Elijah Kelly, but since I'm not a member, I backed on out of there. One thing I found going over the 1850 Grayson Co.,KY census, I think Elizabeth is still there. Another thing I noticed is, one of Elizabeth and Elijah's daughters married a PATTERSON, and they named a son Giles............. Sharon

    1. Giles KELLY
    2. burford
    3. burford@theriver.com I am posting this to the list for all of you that have Giles KELLY bca 1833 in KY listed as son of Michael and Susan PATTERSON, Grayson Co, KY. Some of you folks have a transcript of the 1850 Grayson Co. KY census, and probably tons of family group sheets, that are listing Giles KELLY bca 1833 KY, his siblings, Elijah KELLY bca 1830 KY, and Catharine KELLY bca 1835 KY as being the children of Michael and Susan PATTERSON. (dwelling #313). They are not PATTERSON'S. They are Elizabeth KELLY'S bca 1799, KY, children. Elizabeth KELLY is listed immediately above them on the census. The two little lines to the right of their first name indicate that their surname is the same as the surname immediately above it. When looking at the census, those two little lines (ditto) under the surname above them mean 'same as above'. These ditto marks were used by the enumerator for the 1850 Grayson Co. KY census to keep him from having to write the same name and place of birth multiple times. This is why it is wise to do your own research, and whenever possible verify, verify, and verify your sources of information. Rosie
