Hello Fellow Kelley/Kelly Researchers -- I am trying to find information about my great-grandfather, Andrew Jackson Kelly (it could have been Kelley, I've seen it spelled both ways). A. J. Kelly (Kelley) enlisted in the 34th Regiment of NC Infantry on July 15, 1861. He enlisted at Lincoln, NC. He was wounded at Drewry's Bluff Virginia in defense of Petersburg. Subsequently, he lost his right arm. Following the war, he married Rebecca Caroline ???? and resided in the Rome, GA area. He was a farmer and Baptist preacher. They had children: Jane, John Henry, Elias Lafayette, and Martha Lula. Linda
I need to find out the names of the parents of Lemuel George Kelley(my great-grandfather), and his brother Henry Kelley. There may have been a brother Samuel and others as well. Lemuel was born between 1851-1853 in WV. I would appreciate information on any of them. We haven't made a confirmation in which county in WV Lemuel was born, or the exact date. We have three conflicting dates. We know he married Emma Elizabeth Billett, but we don't know where or when. My husband has a lot of Kelley info on our website. Please refer to it and send any additions or corrections. http://home1.gte.net/tdanlk/index.html Thanks for any help you can give us. My husband, Dan, has 30,000 names connected, and loves to add to it. Linda

Patrick KELLY is not my ancestor but perhaps this will help someone on the KELLEY list. The following information is from: Welcome to The Irish Brigade Association's Website http://www.thewildgeese.com/iba/ "June 6: LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. -- The grave of Colonel Patrick KELLY, who gave his life leading the Irish Brigade into battle during the Civil War, will be marked once more at a June 6 ceremony after decades of neglect. The Galway Association of New York, with the help of the IBA, will unveil the memorial stone over KELLY's grave that day at First Calvary Cemetery, Long Island City, Queens, N.Y. The monument dedication will begin with a Mass, featuring music from harpist Penny Jones and singing by tenor Jim Luddy and bass Arthur Kirmss, in the cemetery chapel at noon. The monument unveiling will take place at 1 p.m. with a military procession led by re-enactors from Company A, 69th NYSV, portraying men from KELLY's command. "KELLY, who was born in Castlehacket, County Galway, Ireland, died as he led the Irish Brigade against Confederates troops at Petersburg, Va. in June 1864. He also commanded the Brigade during its combat in 'The Wheat Field' on July 2, 1863, during the second day of the epic three-day battle of Gettysburg..." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Paula Kelley Ward San Antonio, Texas pward@express-news.net "Genealogy is the art of confusing the dead and irritating the living.

CALIFORNIA HELP: Would like help locating Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kelly. Her maiden name is Alberta Edith Fern Smith. The had three children, Kenneth, John and Fern. Birthdates of the children are 30 Sept. 1927, 6 Nov. 1930 and 27 April 1933 but I don't know which belongs to which child. The Paul and Alberta were married 13 April 1926. I recently discovered that they lived in San Juan Bautista in 1949 when Alberta's brother, Sydney Smith, died in Gridley, Butte Co., CA. DO YOU KNOW THESE KELLYs?
I'm looking for info on Samuel Kelley, date and place of birth unknown, but died in Greenville, SC in 1819. He was survived by his wife Mary Ann (maiden name unknown) and his daughter Elizabeth Kelley Gooch. He apparently had another daughter since he leaves his property between Elizabeth, her son, and another grandson Samuel Forrester. Elizabeth was only married once, so Samuel can't be hers. Does this ring any bells with anyone?
Scary as it may seem I am back. The other day I had in my hand also the 1860 Macon County, AL Census looking for my ancestors. I found them. As well I found other KELL(E)Y's listed. I found these in the Auburn Post Office. I have no idea if they connect with my line or not but, have a feeling they do somehow. Please forgive me as I forgot the page number Dwell/Family 448/433 KELLY, William T. 40 GA Farmer Susanna 39 GA James 15 AL Ruben 14 AL Missouri 12 AL Margaret 10 AL William 8 AL Dill 2 AL Infant 1/4 AL Didn't get this either. I was in a hurry. KELLY, Rueben 48 GA Farmer Lettia A. 25 GA *****For all those folks looking for KELL(E)Y's with MOON's> right next door to Rueben lived a whole passal (sp) of MOON's. However, I didn't get that info. 531/530 KELLY, G. E. 25 GA Editor Amanda 27 GA I hope this helps someone on the list. If someone happens to have the fact these KELLY(E)Y's might connect in anyway, please let me know. My John W. KELLY supposedly had 3 brothers and four sisters. Census records state he was born in PA in this Census and in the 1850 Census I have state MI. A biography I have states PA. Mike

I obtained for a small fee, the 1840 Russell County, AL Census from the National Archives Rental Program. I have been unable to locate my direct ancestor John W. KELLY (which there are gobs of them everywhere) prior to 1842 in a marriage record. His son William Charles KELLY, my g-g-grandfather was born in Russell County, AL in 1843. John W. is listed in later census as a boat captain. Utilizing the Idiots Guide to the Sherlock Holmes Methodology of Deductive Reasoning, I thought I would check the 1840 Russell County AL Census since it and other counties they lived in later on are right on the Chattahoochee River. I felt it might also give me a clue. IT DID!! In a sense. There is a John W. KELLY listed for Russell County, AL 1840 Census, about the right age. However he has a wife and children. Soooooooo..... The following are my questions to the list: John W. KELLY was born abt. 1813 in PA. He and his family migrated to GA abt. 1826 from the small sketchy biography I have of my g-grandfather. John married Sarah Caroline MARTIN of GA on December 26, 1842 in Muscogee County, GA (across the river from Russell County, AL) This I can verify through Marriage Records and Books of Muscogee County, GA. Since John was a bit older when he married Caroline (b. abt. 1826) I now am wondering if John W. KELLY was prior married? If so there is no mention of the 3 Children listed on the 1840 Census. Here is my request: Is there anyone on this list who might have a John W. KELLY who disappeared abt. 1840 time frame who had a wife and children who perhaps died for some unknown reason? The census states he was a 'Farmer'. In either case I have the Census for anyone who might wish it or who has a John W. KELLY in Russell County, AL in 1840. Please contact me if you do!!!! Hello fellow listers! I ran across this information in my files and thought that perhaps someone out there could use this as well. I have been corresponding with another "Kelly" cousin and our ancestors were Quakers in Virginia and Maryland prior to 1753, so I think this will pertain. Hope it helps or at least interests someone else out there! Lib., Xenia, Oh.) Society of Friends "This Society had the unusual practice of numbering the months of the year and the days of the week. No reference is ever made to the usual names (of pagan derivation) as given to the months of the year as used by other Christian denominations. Also, the Quakers in America followed the requirements of adjusting to the Gregorian Calendar following the year 1752. Although the Gregorian Calendar was adopted in the year 1532 by most of the Catholic continental countries of Europe, England and her colonies (America) did not permit or accept the change to the Gregorian Calendar until the end of the year 1752 (3-14 Sep 1752). Under the earlier Julian calendar the first day of the (historical) year was March 25 but starting with 1753 the first day of the year was Jan. 1st. Adjustments to the changeover are not particularly difficult except for the fact that the Quakers used the fore-mentioned system of numbering the months of the year and unless adjustments are made according to the table given below, errors will occur within the record."
