    1. John Kelly, Newbury, MA
    2. Susan Bedson
    3. Hi All, Does anyone have more on this John Kelly? The following is written in grandfather's genealogy book, no reference as to where he found it: Came to Newbury, Massachusetts with the first settlers in 1635. It is said from Newbury, England. His name appears on the Old Settler's Monument, erected on Old Newbury Green, near the landing place. He was granted several lots of land near the River Parker, where most of the settlers had their first residences. He built his house, however, at some distance from the other people, in an exposed position on the North side of Oldtown Hill. This was a daring action as the town was liable to attacks from indians and wild beasts. The town voted that if any harm came to him "his blood should be upon his own head." It is related of him that one night hearing a disturbance in his enclosure, he rushed out without waiting to dress, and with a club killed a wolf which was making havoc with his sheep, supposing it to be a dog. Little is known of his history before coming to Newbury. One tradition says that he was born in Exeter, County of Devon, England, where many of the name have lived. Another story is that his father emigrated from Ireland to Newbury, England, and there became attached to a lady of rank, and having on one occasion, successfully defended her father's house when attacked by robbers, obtained his consent to a marriage with his daughter. John Kelly died December 28, 1644. Would like to know at least who the wife was? Happy Holidays, Sue

Joseph Si/Samuel Louis, b. 4 Apr 1860, Coosa Co., AL., d. 19 Jun 1944, Clanton, AL., m. Elizabeth Rich. First three children known only by initials, via the 1860 AL. census, The Alabama 1866 state census for Jacob, indicates that two sons died during the war. A third son survived, but I do not know which one. The first I believe to be named William, second son may have been Bennet, & the third may have been Henry a name from the Lybrand line. My line is thru the Rev T. A. (Shun) Kelly who was a Baptist preacher in the Elmore/Coosa Co., AL., area. I know that he was b. in the Lexington District of SC. There is a Jacob Kelly on the 1840 Lexington District SC census, & I feel that he is mine, but I have no documentation to prove this, as the records of that area were destroyed. Jacob migrated with his father-in-law, William Lybrand to Alabama between 1848 & 1850, along with many families of the Lexington area. I have him on the 1850 census, but there are no children listed. He is listed as living in the household of his father-in-law. I am trying to connect with the Kehelle/Koelle/Khelle/Kolle family who migrated to SC mid 1750's from Germany, & changed their name to Kelly/Kelley after their arrival. Ann Corum Hazel Green, AL

    3. Are you wondering if that place in Ireland you heard about--where your KELLY ancestor is supposed to be from--really exists? Not sure how it's spelled? The single most important item of information for Irish family history research is a precise place of origin, and the most important tool in identifying Irish placenames is the 1851 Townlands Index. You can search the entire Index, together with street listings from Dublin, Cork and Belfast cities, more than 65,000 entries in all, from this page: (it's free) Irish Ancestors: Placenames http://www.irish-times.com/ancestor/placename/index.cfm or try this one: IREATLAS Townland Data Base http://www.thecore.com/cgi-bin/ire-srch Paula Kelley Ward San Antonio, Texas pward@express-news.net "Genealogy is the art of confusing the dead and irritating the living.”

    3. I am looking for information on these people I have a Thomas O'Kelly died at his home five miles west of Ashkum Ill. Wednesday night at 10pm. July 18, 1899 age 71 years. He was born in Ireland and came to this country at the age of 21. settling first in Canad, where he lived for about 7 years, when he moved to LaSalle Co. Ill. In 1869 he settled in Iroquois County, on the farm on which he has since resided. In 1852 he was married to ann Hishon, and to them seven children were born, six of whom still live, and with the wife mourn a kind father and husband. This letter was wrote by his son which says. Born in county Limerick, Ireland. Shanagolden the O'Kellys were quite prominent people throughout Ireland. The Hishons were also prominet holding responsible positions such as "Squire Hishons" and Hord Mayor of Limerick. The government sent him to Canada (no one knows why) his brothers were sent to Australia (there were some O"Kellys who went to Australia who became very wealty, could be his brothers). This is from Letters of R. J. Kelly his son. Thomas married a Ann Hishon about 1852 as their oldest child was born Jan. 1853 in. I was hoping someone could tell me for Thomas to have bought land in Illinois would he have had to prove citizenship? dkelly@nebi.com

    3. Hi Gayle Seems like a couple of people are looking for your elusive John Kelley. Following is some information I sent to another on this mail list in response to his question about a William Kelley & Rebecca Jennings in my line and also concerning William's brother, John Kelley, that has the same birth year as your John Kelley... Ryamond, William & Rebecca were married in 1779, probably Albermarle Parish of Surry or Sussex Co VA. I don't have any data on his brother John other than his birth date. The informtion I have about John & Elizabeth's children comes from the Albermarle Parish of Surry and Sussex Co VA birth records. Those records were supplied to me by Linda Cheek <LGCheek@aol.com>. The details she supplied me with are: Mary d/o John and Eliza Kelly b. 18 Dec (prob 1747 ?) bap ca 1748 Patty d/o John Kelly and wife Eliza b. 30 March 1749 Susanna d/o John Kelly and wife Elisa b. 16 Feb 1750 Godparents: Thomas Huson, Mary Winfield, Eliza Curtis Elizabeth d/o John Kelly and Eliza b. 16 May 1752 GDP Thomas Hunt, Susanna Richarson, Eliza Nans Sylvia d/o John and Elisa Kelley b. 5 April 1754 no GDP William Kelley son of John and Elisa b. 6 April 1758 no GDP Anna d/o John and Elisa Kelley b. 16 Oct 1759 GDP Edward Harper, Anne Harper, Elisa Morgan Lucretia d/o John Kelly and wife Elisa b. 2 May 1762 Godparents: James Greenway, Patty Greenway and Mary Norris. John Kelley son of John and wife Eliza b. 12 Dec 1765 godparents: David Tucker, Lawrence Gibbons Jr and Mary Kelly. Then in another note to him, I wrote.... A follow-up to you on this and my previous note. I have no verification of this as of yet but I suspect that my John Kelley, his kids and their wifes migrated into NC and then William, along with maybe some of the others, moved on to SC around 1779. If this is the case, then it is possible that my John Kelley and his son, John, are the same ones you are looking for. Gaylesbill@aol.com wrote: > > Howdy folks, > My most wanted Kelley is ... 3. Certainly all the traffic today has brought a great deal of us with Kelleys in SC or Kelleys who passed through closer to the truth... Milly Kelley married Pleasant Sullivan.. She was born in 1775 and at some point arrived in Laurens Co. SC at Fork Shoals..She married Pleasant in 1796. She was a friend of Hudson Berry... She knew the Arnolds and was connected by marriage and she knew all the Sullivans... She might have been related by marriage to the Downes/Downs.Her brother married Martha Garrett...She was certainly related to Nimrod and Sarah Kelley/Calley in Pendleton District... Her mother was probably named Sarah...She might have been Nimrods daughter but the age bothers me and I can't find his war service plus she doesn't appear at his home in the 1790 Census. She named her children: Kelly Nimrod Hudson Berry James Sarah Frances Joyce Mosily Wharton Maria Pennock Any help would be appreciated. My theory is that she is Nimrods daughter and Nimrod is William Nelson Kelleys brother.

    3. I guess it's my time, and I'm fortunate to have found the most likely connection of my Joel KELLEY via the assistance of Linda Cheek and Ed KELLEY. (See 1st generation of Ed's post below). In addition to furthering my KELLEY line research (backward in time), I hope my post will provide someone else information on the same line. Descendants of Richard Kelley Generation No. 1 1. RICHARD2 KELLEY (UNKNOWN1) was born 1736 in Union Co. S.C., and died 1800 in Union Co. S.C.. He married SUSANNAH UNKNOWN 1755 in Union Co. S.C.. Children of RICHARD KELLEY and SUSANNAH UNKNOWN are: 2. i. WILLIAM3 KELLEY, b. July 11, 1758, 96th Dist. Union Co., SC; d. December 27, 1837, Georgia. ii. JOHN KELLEY, b. 1760. iii. BEN KELLEY, b. Abt. 1762. iv. IS KELLEY, b. Abt. 1765. v. JOEL KELLEY, b. Abt. 1775, Farifield Co., SC; d. Abt. 1862, Bradley Co. TN. ** vi. HUGH KELLEY, b. Abt. 1771. vii. DELILAH KELLEY, b. Abt. 1773. viii. RICHARD KELLEY, b. Abt. 1775. In addition to working with others on furthering and verifying the ancestry of my Joel KELLEY, I am interested in determining the maiden name of my Joel's wife, Letta. Her surname has been listed as DARLTON with a (?), and, not finding this surname, speculation is that the surname is actually DALTON. In fact, "Letta" could also be a nickname, but it is the name she was known by throughout at least her married life. Joel KELLEY, above, moved his family from S. C. to McMinn County, Tennessee before 1804. Since the 1810 and 1820 Tennessee census records are lost (Union soldiers burned the Bradley County, Tennessee, courthouse during the time of the Civil War), we cannot trace with certainty the movements of Joel during this period. The nearly-complete destruction of all Bradley County records has also seriously hampered the search in the period following. The 1830 McMinn County, Tenn. census lists Joel Kelley. Also shown on this census in McMinn County were John Kelly, Jonathan Kelly, Matthew Kelly, Sr., Nathan Kelly, Richard Kelly, Squire R. Kelly, Wm. Kelly, Sr. and Wm. Kelly, Jr. Some of these named could have been Joel's sons: Matthew would have been 31 in 1830; Richard would have been 26; John would have been 22; Nathan would have been 20; Elisha 18 (who was probably living at home); Elijah would have been 10, was living at home. The 1840 Tennessee census records Joel Kelly, age 65, living in Bradley County with one male younger than he and two females. The younger male was probably Elijah, who married abount 1845. The two females probably were his wife, Letta, and his daughter Nancy, age 22, who never married. The 1850 Fed. census of Tenn. lists Joel Kelly, age 75, living in Bradley County, 12th District, with wife, Letta, age 69 and daughter, Nancy, age 31. Joel and Letta indicated they were born in S.C. Children of JOEL KELLEY and LETTA DARLTON(?) are: i. MATTHEW2 KELLEY, b. April 01, 1799. ii. RICHARD KELLEY, b. March 15, 1804, Bradley County, TN. iii. WILLIAM KELLEY, b. July 07, 1802. iv. MARY KELLEY, b. May 20, 1806. v. JOHN KELLEY, b. 1808. vi. NATHAN KELLEY, b. December 01, 1810. vii. ELISHA KELLEY, b. December 24, 1812, McMinn Co.,TN. viii. SUSAN KELLEY, b. March 01, 1814, Tennessee; m. ANDREW P. MILLER. ix. JOEL KELLEY, b. May 18, 1816. x. NANCY KELLEY, b. May 16, 1818, McMinn County, Tennessee. xi. ELIJAH KELLEY, b. 3. I've had some good news today, thanks to AT&T. I thought I would post this. It might help someone else. I don't think it relates to my Kelly/Kelley lines, maybe it will help someone. I found this in Adair Co.,Ky. Hugh Kelley, born in Belfast, Ireland to Sarah E Taylor. They were married in 1826. I beleive it was 1826. If anyone is interested I will find my notes. Hugh served in the Civil War. By 1900, there were no Kelley/Kelly's in Adair Co. until my Ggrandfather migrated down from Grayson Co. around 1911-1912? Hope this helps someone. Sharon

    1. Most wanted
    2. Jim Moses
    3. Hi everyone, I thought I would like to jump on the bandwagon. I, too, have a most wanted Kelley and, hopefully, someone out there will know about him and his family. Here goes.... Michael Kelley, born 1800-1808 (depending on which census you believe), married Catharine _____. Apparently they were both born in Ireland, but I have no idea where. Their children were supposedly all born in New York. I know at one time members of the family lived in Mt. Morris (Livingston County) NY, but I don't know if any of the children were born there. The children, born from about 1833 to 1853, were John, Michael, Mary A., James, Thomas, Frank, Jane, Charles Alfred, and Kitty. Charles Alfred was my great- grandfather. Parts of this family, including Charles, moved to Ionia County MI. John may have been a member of Congress, serving in the 34th Congress (04 MAR 1855 - 03 MAR 1857) and the 35th Congress (04 MAR 1857 - DEC 1858). He is listed as a farmer in the 1860 census of Mt. Morris, and is also listed as living in Mt. Morris in 1850. Thanks in advance for any help anyone might be able to render. I have quite a bit of information from Charles to the present and would be very willing to share. Jim Moses
