    1. Most Wanted--descendants of William Kell(e)y b. 1830 England, d. 1900 Detroit
    2. Kerstens, Liz, MAJ, OASD/PA
    3. I've sent this info to the list before but never got any responses. I'm looking for descendants of William Joseph Kell(e)y and Julia Matthis, both died in Detroit. This family was Protestant as far as I can tell. They started using the Kelley spelling in Detroit; records from England are Kelly. They immigrated to Detroit ca. 1872, haven't yet found them on passenger lists. With all these kids, at least one other descendant must be doing genealogy!!! I do know most of the descendants of my great-grandfather Frederick William Kelley below. By the way, I had an article published in the Nov/Dec 1998 "Ancestry" in which I discussed grave hopping, and specifically mentioned my adventures finding the burial place of William and Julia Kelley above. William Joseph Kelly, son of William Kelly and Ellen Bullock, b. 23 January 1830 England, d. 28 June 1900 Detroit, m. 23 Nov 1848 Julia Matthis, daughter of John Matthis and Sarah Moore, b. 1 February 1831, Greenwich, England, d. 8 October 1914 Detroit. They had 10 children, all of whom came to Detroit except William: --William Joseph Kelly, b. and d. dates unknown, fought in Boer War (didn't immigrate) --Julia Kell(e)y, b. and d. dates unknown, married a McCormick --Elizabeth Esther Kell(e)y, b. 3. Just a word here.......It is my understanding that our Kelly family was O"Kelley in Ireland, Kelley here in many records. It is said that my grandfather Marcus L Kelly is the maverick that dropped the second E. Some disagree but it is an example of what you can expect in research. This list was created in January 1996 for KELLEY and any spelling variation, as described in the RootsWeb surname list. In my own family we have the name spelled both ways (KELLY and KELLEY) and some records even have the name spelled both ways on one record. Greg, you may just find your connection right here on this list. Happy Hunting! 2. Sharon Garner
    3. My most wanted Kelley is still Samuel, died in 1819 in Granville, SC. Date and place of birth are unknown, but since his daughter married in 1785, he was presumably born before 1750. His wife was Maryann Kelley, maiden name unknown. He had at least two daughters (mentioned in his will). One, name unknown, married a Forrester, had a son Samuel who was still a minor when Samuel Kelley died. His other daughter Elizabeth married James Gooch.

    2. Lisa Shea
    3. I am looking for Caroline Kelley, who married Matthew Shea in Chicopee (near Springfield), MA in 1861. She is listed as being born either in Ireland or England (depending on which source you go by), and was 22 when she was married. Her parents were Luke Kelly and Elizabeth Sidebottom. No document I have says anything further than the country name (and those, as you see, are inconsistant). I can't find any shipping records that match her yet. 2. Sharon
    3. Hi List. I apologize. I had the dates wrong on an earlier posting. I have now found my notes. There were two Kelly's married in Adair Co. ,Ky. prior to 1900. They are: Hugh Kelly married Saley Taylor, 1862 John Kelly married Hillena S. Leach, 1868 These marriages are on file. You can get copies of the marriage bond. Prior to marriage of Hugh, he was living in the household of a Goodwin. Appeantly, they were cabinet makers. At this time, I don't know if Hugh was endentured? or not. He was born in Belfast according to his marriage bond. I also found Hugh Kelly on a Ky Civil War Roster. Also, I will have to find my Russell Co.,Ky notes, but I beleive their was a younger William Kelly living here at around the same time. I hope this helps someone. Sharon

    1. My most wanted Kelly, Machiel 1785-1859
    2. Hello Kellys, It seems that most of you out there are American which I'm not. I must say that the list hasn't been much of help to me because it seems to concentrate on America but, with Christmas in mind, I decided to give it another try. So please have a look into your files and see if you have any information for me. I've traced back my roots to the above mentioned Machiel Kelly, he was born the 2nd of november 1785 in Amsterdam and died on the 17th of december 1859 in Ruinerwold, both in the Netherlands. Thanks to Mike Kelly from Australia I've also got information on a JOHN KELLY he was in the British Army and probably in the service of William of Orange as he moved to The Netherlands sometime prior to 1700. Any information on these Kellys and their ancestors is more then welcome. I still don't know if there is a link between these two but sure would like to find out. If you have information on other Kellys that moved to The Netherlands prior to 1785 that would be welcome too. Thanks and regards, Bert Kelly, b.kelly@nl.cordena.com
