I received this on another list and thought it was cute. "I think Santa Claus is a woman I hat to be the one ot defy sacred myth, but I believe he's a she. Think about it. Christmas is a big, organized, warm, fuzzy, nurturing social deal, and I have a tough time believing a guy could possibly pull it all off. For starter, the vast majority of men don't even think about selecting gifts until Christmas Eve. It's as if they are all frozen in so kind of Ebenejerian Time Warp until 3 p.m. on Dec. 24th when they - with amazing calm - call other errant men and plan for a last-minute shopping spree. Once at the mall, they always seem surprised to find only Ronco product, socket wrench sets and mood rings left on the shelves. (You might think this would send them into a fit of panic and guilt, but my husband tells me it's an enormous relief because it lessens the 11th hour decision-making burden.) On this count alone, I'm convinced Santa is a woman. Surely if he were a man, everyone in the universe would wake up christman morning to find a rotating musical chia Pet under the tree still in the bag. Another problem for a he-Santa would be getting there. First of all, there would be no reindeer because they would all be dead, gutted and strapped on to the rear bumper of the sleigh amid wide - eyed, desperat claims that buck season had been extended. Blitzen's rack would already be on the way to the taxidermist. Even if the make santa DID have a reindeer, he'd still have transportation problems because he would inevitable get lost up there in the snow and clouds and then refuse to stop and ask for directions. Add to this the fact that there would be anavoidable delays in the chimney, where the Bob Vila - like Santa would stop to inspect and repoint bricks on the flue. He would also need to check for carbon monoxide fumes in every gas fireplace, and get under every Christmas tree that is crooked to straighten it to a upright 90-degree angle. Other reasons why Santa can't possibly be a man: *Men don't answer mail. *Men would rather be dead than caught wearing red velvet. *Men would feel their masculinity is threatened...having to be seen with all those elves. *Men can't pack a bag. *Men would refuse to allow their physique to be described even in jest as anything remotely resembling a "bowl ful of jelly." *Men Aren't interested in stockings unless somebody's wearing them. *Having to do the Ho Ho Ho thing would seriously inhibit their ability to pick up women. *Finally, being responsible for christmas would require a commitment. I can buy the fact that other mythical holiday characters are men...... Father Time shows up once a year unshaven and looking ominous. Definit guy. Cupid flies around careing weapons. Uncle Sam is a politician who like to point fingers. Any one of these individuals could pass the testosterone screening test. But not St. Nick. Not a chance. Aslong as we have each other, good will, peace on earth, faith and Nat King Cole's version of "The Christmas Song," it probably makes little differnece what gender Santa is. I just wish she'd quit dressing like a guy!!!" dkelly@nebi.com
I know this does not pertain to genelogy but I got this on another mail list and would like to share it. Now I know why I put an angel on top of my tree!! I thougth it was because they were so beautiful - boy was I out in left field!! Santa was very cross. It was Christmas Eve and NOTHING was going right. Mrs. Claus had burned all the cookies. The elver were complaining about not getting paid for all the overtime they had worked while making the toys. The reindeer had been dringing all afternoon and were quite dead drunk. To make matters worse, they had taken the sleigh out for a spin earlier in the day and crashed it into a tree. Santa was furious. "I can't believe it! I've got to deliver millions of presents all over the world in just a few hours - all of my reindeer are drunk, the elves are on strike and I don't even have a Christmas tree! I sent that stupid Little angel out HOURS ago to find a tree and he isn't even back yet! What am I going to do?" Just then, the Little Angel opened the front door and stepped in from the snowy night, dragging a Christmas tree. He says "Yo, fat man! Where do you want me to stick the tree this year?" And thus the tradition of angels atop the Christmas trees came to pass. dkelly@nebi.com

My most wanted KELLEY: I'm looking for information on the Shelby James KELLEY family. Shelby was born 1/28/1886 in Hazel Dell, IL. He died 10/23/1955 in Bozeman, MT. He married Letitia Isabella GIBSON on 6/4/1905 in Charleston, IL. She was born 4/18/1886 in Fairview, IL and died 12/20/1967 in Bozeman, MT. They had 4 children, Marion, Archie, Martha & Dallace. All I know about Shelby's family is that he had a sister named Goldie and another named Bonnie (she married a Horton and had a daughter named Ruth). There is also some relative who lives in Indiana named Flora and there's also a half brother named Ray. Letitia was called Belle and her father was Fred GIBSON. He married Susannah Jane COLLINBAUGH in Smithboro, IL. She was born 3/30/1866 and died 7/26/1892, I think, in Smithboro, IL.
Karla Cardell and Thia have inspired me to post once again. There are just too darned many James Kellys passing through eastern NC and Southern Georgia for there to be no connection. I am looking for James (middle unknown) Kelly who died and was buried in 1910 in Valdosta, GA. He is the father of John McNeill Kelly, born 21 Jan 1875 in Clarkton, NC. James was apparently in Clarkton in both the 1860 and 1870 censi, but disappears in 1880 and reappears in Georgia in 1890. James' other children included William, Donald, Claude, Jeanette, Mary and Margaret. William, founder of Consolidated Naval Stores and early partner in Barnett Banks, is apparently buried in Jacksonville, where he died in the 1930s. Claude became a physician who lived and and died in Hartford, CT. Jeanette (sp?) married a ? West. She died in 1961 and is buried in Valdosta, GA also. Mary married a Hugenot doctor Van de Erve (sp?) of Charleston, SC. The others are lost to me. Since the missing patriarch and at least one childe are buried in Valdosta, I feel a trip is in the works. Does anyone on the list live near enough to Valdosta to check records or can anyone give me an online lead to follow? John M.'s is line that leads to me through his decendants who settled in the panhandle of Florida and in the West Palm Beach area. There is a tradition (not supported by any documentation I've been able to find) that my Kellys have carried the McNeill middle name and the McNeills have used Kelly as a middle or Christian name ever since the two families were joined in marriage in the early or mid 1800s in North Carolina. It is rumored that we are all of the same lineage of James Abbott McNeill Whistler, the American painter (Whistler's Mother - study in black and white?). Guess work has connected the families in the Brown Marsh/Clarkton area, just west of Wilmington. (Whistler's grandfather was a Dr. McNeill who moved to Wilmington from Scotland.) I have some bible records of some Scotch-Irish Kellys and McNeills from that part of the country; if you'd like me to trace a particular line, I would be happy to. Ernie Kelly Orlando
Hello all, Ed's message encouraged me to send my Kelly (-ey) most wanted. Mine is also from East Tennessee. He was married in McMinn Co., TN. I have been told that family tradition has him killed by bushwackers during the Civil War, however there is an odd ring to this. They also say that his young son (Prob. James Glaspy Kelly witnessed the murder). Peculiar. I have found one relative online searching for the same family and he know's a bit more than me but both of us are stumped as to how and where to continue. So, here goes my most wanted: Tyre Kelly born 1820 m. 1-4-1839 in McMinn Co., TN to Delily Emmerson (her tombstone has Delilah on it). Delilah was born in 1818. There children are as follows: Polly Ann b. 1841 Louisa E. b. 1842 Susanna C. b. 1843 James Glaspy b. 1844 (he married Margaret Angeline Taylor) Lina Elizabeth b. 1846 (my ancestress - she married Anthony Brouayer) Martha b. 1850 Andy b. 1852 John b. 1855 Catherine b. 1858 Any information will be greatly appreciated! I'm at a dead end. Thia Edkelley@aol.com wrote: > James M. KELLY/KELLEY b c1800, m Anna H (?) b 1805. If these Kellys > below look > kind of familiar please contact me. Well, here is my first post to the KELLEY list. My MOST WANTED Kelly would be the parents of my 3rd great-grandfather, James KELLY. I was told his middle name was Henry but I have no proof of that. Just like his son William. Someone says Wms middle name is Henry but I don't know where that came from. The census and his headstone just indicates the initial M. James (Henry) Kelly, b. c1814 in NC, m. c1837 in SC?, d. 1886 (I'm told) maybe in Georgia. Emily Watkins, b. 22 Jun 1814 (maybe July) in SC, d. 02 Mar 1909, buried in Ballground, Cherokee County, Georgia son - William M. (Henry?) Kelly, b. 01 Oct 1837 in SC ("SC" according to census) son - Elias James Kelly, b. 02 Sep 1839, Lumpkin Co, GA (according to death certificate) dau - Roseanna N. (Nancy?) Kelly, b. c1843 in Lumpkin Co.?, GA son - Jasper J. Kelly, b. c1846 in Lumpkin Co.?, GA son - James E. Kelly, b. c1847 in Lumpkin Co.?, GA son - Ewell/Ule S. Kelly, b. Oct 1847 in Lumpkin Co.?, GA d. Cherokee County, NC dau - Polly Ann Kelly, b. Sep 1850 in Lumpkin Co.?, GA son - Philemon Kelly, b. c1851 in Lumpkin Co.?, GA dau - Peggy Margaret Kelly, b. c1853 in Lumpkin Co., GA dau - Av(e)y Evaline Kelly, b. 04 Jan 1854 in Lumpkin Co., GA son - Martin Mackafee (Mac) Kelly, b. 15 Mar 1856 in Lumpkin Co., GA or SC (census) son - George H. Kelly, b. c1861 in Lumpkin or Gordon Co.?, GA I have more information on some of these children if you think you are a descendant. Sure hope someone recognizes any of these Kellys. :-) Karla Kelley-Cardell Dahlonega, Lumpkin Co., GA (yeah, interesting that I live in the county that my ancestors were from! total accident! In fact, it was a total accident that I found my 3rd great grandparents on the Lumpkin Co., GA census when I was looking up my 3rd great grandparents on the other side of my family! <lol> (Or was it an accident?......)

Hello, I am somewhat new to this list and I am looking for descendant of my Great- Great Grandfather George Washington Kelley. He died in Dayton, Ohio on 1 September 1930 and is buried at Fair View Cemetery in West Liberty, Logan County, Ohio. George had six children with his wife Mahala Frances Garber, they were: 1. Vergia Kelley b. 11 September 1889 d. 1891 George's father was Samuel Kelley and mother was Mary Ann Hixon they were both from Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio. Samuel's mother was Kathryn Kelley that bore him illegitimately with a man supposed to be Lloyd "Jake" Anderson. The story goes that Lloyd and Kathryn were supposed to be married by the circuit Judge, but Mr. Anderson died before he arrived. If they had married, I suppose we would have been Andersons instead of Kelleys. I would like to know more about Samuel and Kathryn Kelley. Any help would be welcomed very much. Dear to Whomever it May Concern: I jst emailed Paula Ward. Due to the massive emails that I receive, and the lack of information on my part. Please take me off your mailing list-unscribe. I recently sent my grandma a Christmas card, with questions about the Kelly family. She may be able to give me definite answers, but at this time I'm virtually clueless. I appreciate you sending me the many emails;however, I can't help anyone without helping myself. Thank you if in the future I have a lot of answers I will ask you to reinstate my name on the Kelly list. Stacy Satterfield jn316@noln.com
Ruby, If you go to the Greene County GENWEB sight as well as one county north to the Polk County GENWEB sights, also subscribe to MOPOLK-L Rootsweb list and post I would bet my bottom dollar you will find a woman on all three who is related to Whittenburgs and Kelleys. She is also either the Coordinator or Asst Coordinator of MOGENWEB as well as Greene County GENWEB Coordinator. Although not my direct line I subscribe to all three as my mothers line is from this area of the country. We have discussed our mutual connection on a few occasions.
