I am seeking info on my great great grandfather, Samuel H. Kelley, born 06-08-1846, died 03-01-1887. He married Elizabeth Davis born 07-31-1847, died 01-31-1930. They are buried in Stafford County, Ks. I learned that their daughter Sarah Elizabeth, my great grandmother was born in Indiana. I located the family in the 1880 census in Putnam County, Indiana. The census stated that Samuel was born in North Carolina as was his wife. In 1880 they had 7 children, Mary, Sarah, Jesse, Lillie, Rosa, Charles and an infant. The only other info I have is a veterans marker at Samuel's grave states he was a veteran 61-65. I have been unable to locte any other info. Any help would be appreciated. Dan Levens

I would like to hear from anyone researching the Kelly name in Newfoundland, Canada.. My particular Kelly interest is, Catharine KELLY married to Patrick DRUKEN on 5-20-1855 at Holy Trinity Parish, Torbay, Newfoundland..The ancestors of this KELLY family came from Ireland before 1800.. Thank you.. Claudia
A Happy and Prosperous 1999 to All, Earlier I had posted notice of my Most Wanted James Kelly (a great grandfather). I finally found him in the 1860 census for Michigan. That's the short of it. If you have a minute, here is the longer of it. I was fairly certain he would be in Michigan as his wife to be moved from Ontario, Canada to Michigan in 1855. I used BLM's land sales site to find James Kellys who had purchased land in Michigan and there was one in 1855 in St. Clair County. Using the FHC's township books I found the named TWP that corresponded to the deed description. I ordered the 1860 census and waited anxiously. It finally came and I went right to Emmett TWP and there was a James Kelly. Whoops, his wife's name was Elizabeth, and not Margaret. Well so much for that research. It was not yet quite lunch time so I decided to just look on a bit on the reel - just 5 dwellings away was another James Kelly and he had a wife Margaret and sons John and William and a daughter Mary - just like he should - gloom gave way to elation. Moreover, just two dwellings away was Margaret's mother, Catherine Morrisey, and four of her other children. (Father, John, had died in Ontario in 1852.) There, I had it in spades, but oh how close I came to missing it. Am now in the process of tracking down James' Civil War record. According to Margaret's obituary in 1904, he had died in 1865 without returning from the war. Iral Nelson
I received a letter from a cousin that says she has a niece who lives in Holland-----she has visited Counties Limerick and Kerry and found that a Thomas O'Kelly had lived in a small village, "Shanagolden" before he set sail to Canada during the famine. She could not get the records from the church as the parish priest was not available that day. Would someone happen to know the name of the parish in the area at the time? Shanagolden is in Limerick County, Ireland. Valerie dkelly@nebi.com
I just returned from Ireland about 2 months ago and I feel terrible I didn't mention the Irish History centers. Ireland received a one time grant from EU. What Ireland did with the money was to establish History centers around the county. The one that I visited was at Woodford, co Galway. There is one employee and about 20 computers. The one employee is teaching the locals kids how to use computers by inputing historical and genealogic data. The grant was for employee training in counties with high unemployeement rates. There is a fee for services but the money is keep the services and the training going because the start up money was a one time grant. Woodford Heritage Centre is for eastern Co Galway and I am sure they probley know the Email of other History centers.\ Woodford Heritage Centre, Email eastgalwayfhs@tinet.ie go hunting but remember there is a fee.
