Aubrey, I am descended from Milly Kelly born 1776. I am fairly certain she lived in the Greenville/Laurens area in 1780s. Did Daniel leave a will? I have often thought he might be Millys father. Millys brother was Nimrod who is in the Pendleton District in 1790. Milly married Pleasant Sullivant who was in the Laurens District in 1790. I have some Kelleys in Sauk Co., WI and I've always wondered why they went there straight from Northern Ireland. I don't know if he already had kin here. John Kelley, seaman, b. abt 1810 in Bangor, Co. Down, NIR, came to the US in 1850 after he married for the 2nd time. In 1851 his 2nd wife Elizabeth brought over his two children by Mary Crozier, Martha I. and John R. Kelley. They were Scots-Irish and were Presbyterians. After living in Racine, Racine Co., WI for a few years the moved to Troy Twp, Sauk Co., Wisconsin before the 1860 census. John Kelley was dead by 1870 and his widow had moved back to Ireland. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, March 17, 2005 7:50 PM Subject: Re: [KELLEY] Re: Green County(WI) KELLEYS > > > Hi Angie, > I don't have those name in my line, but if you will send me your first and > last name and put your email address in the body of the email, I will send > you an invatation to the campfire. Still looking for records for your Irish ancestor? Don't know where in Ireland they came from? Try this database, which was discussed on NPR on St. Patrick's Day: For 90 years, a Boston newspaper ran a "missing friends" column with ads helping newly arrived Irish immigrants find lost friends and relatives. Boston College unveils an online database of the ads. Information Wanted: A Database of Advertisements for Irish Immigrants Published in the Boston Pilot http://infowanted.bc.edu/ From October 1831 through October 1921, the Boston Pilot newspaper printed a "Missing Friends" column with advertisements from people looking for "lost" friends and relatives who had emigrated from Ireland to the United States. This extraordinary collection of more than 31,438 records is available here as a searchable online database, which contains a text record for each ad that appeared in the Pilot. The advertisements contain the ordinary but revealing details about the missing person's life: the county and parish of their birth, when they left Ireland, the believed port of arrival in North America, their occupation, and a range of other personal information. Some records may have as many as 50 different data fields, while others may offer only a few details. The people who placed ads were often anxious family members in Ireland, or the wives, siblings, or parents of men who followed construction jobs on railroads or canals. These "Missing Friends" advertisements provide a window on the world of Irish immigration. Catherine McCauliff was my great grandmother. Her oldest daughter, Mary Kelly married Frank Grant Hyde (September 10, 1980 in Allison Iowa). They moved to North Dakota and homestead in 1911. I have a little information on the rest of Catherine’s children, if you are still interested. The posting I came across is a over two years old, so I’m not sure if you are still looking for information. But what better way to touch base with McCauliffs and Kelley’s than St. Patrick’s Day! Do you have more information on your great grandfather’s family? The information I have on Catherine’s parents and siblings is very vague. It might be fun to compare notes.
