    3. Pegi , if you do not have any luck there. you might want to contact the Church (* I am assuming Catholic ) in Boston where she was Baptized. Years ago the priest of the parish where the marriage was supposed to inform the baptismal parish of the marriage and also was suppose to have proof that the parties were not already married it was not always done , but there us always that outside chance. 3. Hi Luther, The Group Rate for the 25 Marker Test is $169 and the 37 Marker Test is $219. If you click on the drop down arrow on the Test Selection Box on the Online Application you can select any of these options. However, I would recommend selecting the 12 Marker Test for several reasons. One is you can request at some time in the future that the original sample be tested for 25 or 37 markers by paying for an upgrade. The upgrade cost from 12 to 25 is $100. The upgrade cost from 12 to 37 is $169. Only in a case where you have a 12 Marker match with another participant and both of you can not discover the connection with Family History Records would you want to consider both participants upgrading to a 25 or 37 marker test to better estimate how far back in time that Common Ancestor lived. Go to the FTDNA Kelley page http://www.familytreedna.com/kelley/public and sign up today. My ancestor John Kelly was in Jackson Co., Ga from about 1801 until 1809. My ancestor John Kelly lived in Capt. William Lloyd's District on the Apalachee River which was included in Clarke Co.,Ga in 1802. I am interested in more data on Thomas Kelly who was in Jackson Co.,Ga in the early 1800's. I have data on the children of Thomas Kelly. I would like to know who his father and brothers were. In the 1797 Tax List of Jackson Co. there is a Thomas Kelly and a William Kelly in Capt. William Hopkins District. I am not sure I researched the location of Capt. Hopkins District. To be on the Tax List for 1797 this Thomas Kelly and William Kelly would have been born prior to 1776. In the "Minutes of the Court of the Ordinary", (1822-1831), there is an Order as follows:" Ordered that Letters of Administration be granted to Thomas Morgan and Thomas Kelly on the Estate of Wm. Kelly, Dec.. Bond and Security, $400." This could mean that Thomas is a son of Wm. Kelly. Have you checked the Jackson Co. Records to see if there is a Will for Wm. Kelly during the period (1822-1831)? I hope you can supply that 12 Marker match I have been hoping for. Best Regards, Raymond Kelly ----- Original Message ----- From: Luther Kelly To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, May 15, 2005 3:07 PM Subject: Kelly DNA Testing Raymond, I am interested in your DNA testing project, but I have a question. The price I saw was for the 12 marker was $99. Are the 25 and 37 marker kits available and what are their costs? I descend from Thomas Kelly who was in Jackson Co., GA in the early 1800's. He married an Agnes Carmichael there on Jan. 24, 1825. His son, William Washington Kelly (my ancestor), was born Dec. 25, 1830, in Jackson Co., GA. Sometime around 1850-60, he went to Blount Co., AL where he married and had a family. His two sons eventually went to TX. I will be happy to send further data if you're interested. 3. Hi Dottie, It is a good idea to Subscribe to both the KELLEY and the KELLY List. In early 1800's and before spelling was not a high priority. Few people could read or write. The Militia Captain and the Tax Collector determined how your name was spelled. In the 1800 Tax List for Jackson Co., Ga. the "Kelly" families were all listed as Kelley. When their District was included in Clarke Co., Ga in 1802 they were all listed as Calley. In the 1802 Tax List for Clarke Co., Ga., 3 of thes families were listed as Calley and 2 families were listed as Kelly. In the 1806 List some of these same families were listed as Kelley. My Greatgrandfather Oliver Perry Kelly, born in 1833 had 6 sons. In public records four of them were listed as Kelly and 2 were listed as Kelley. Their descendants retain that spelling today. None of them know why. The way the Tax Collector chose to spell your name doesn't change your DNA. If you haven't recruited one of your Male Kelley/Kelly relatives to participate in the Kelley/Kelly Surname DNA Study I would encourage you to do so. Go to the website http://www.familytreedna.com/public/kelley and join up. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: _http://www.familytreedna.com/public/kelley_ (http://www.familytreedna.com/public/kelley) Hi to All on the Kelley/Kelly DNA List and All DNA Projects. My donor was very excited when I approached him about being a DNA donor for my family of QUEENS. You see, I am a Redmond but my mother was a Queen. Her brother Uncle Tom Queen was the last living son of my mother's family. Mother had died when I was fourteen and Uncle Tom had helped us a lot as we kids were growing up. I write this note to encourage those people who might be wondering, should they try this so called DNA project. Let me tell you this. I pondered it for a while, but I'm so glad I did it when I did. I went for the 12, then the 24 and 37 marker tests and Uncle Tom's come back with flying colors. Unbeknownst to us we almost waited a bit too long to do these test. We started the tests in January 2005 and you see, Uncle Tom Queen died April 10 2005. He held on to get the results of the 37 marker test. As I set beside his bed that morning, he tells me, "I know you got good news" for me boy. How do you know I have good news I ask him. He says, I see it on your face boy. I SHALL NOW WORK TOWARD GETTING MY KELLEYS/KELLYS, REDMONDS AND HINESLY/HINESLEY done. From the Home of Jimmy and JoAnne Redmond Sr

    3. From: Raymond Kelly To: Ken Shirley Sent: Thursday, May 12, 2005 12:38 AM Subject: KELLEY/KELLY Surname DNA Study Hi Ken, Thank you very much for spreading the news about the KELLEY/KELLY Surname DNA Project. That is what I should be doing but I have been spending every waking hour developing The KELLEY/KELLY DNA Website to display the Results and Analysis and Participants Family Information. It is hosted on freepages at Rootsweb. I have all the pages coded and uploaded but I am having great difficulty implementing the Application Form and the Pedigree Chart Form to send the information to me via E-Mail. As soon as I get those two problems solved we will be ready for prime time. Fortunately we have a very patient lady Pat Asher at Freepages Help, who is helping me get through the process. We have Results from 13 Participants back and we have 3 pairs of 12 Marker Matches. People who now know they have a common KELLEY ancestor. With an ancestor named John Kelly in the 1780's in NC and Virginia, DNA testing is my only hope for figuring out which John was my ancestor. My ancestor John Kelly had a son John and each of his brothers had a son John as did most of those Kelley/Kelly familys that I have tracked from Maryland and Pennsylvania into Virginia, NC, SC, Georgia and Alabama. I wish they had been a little more creative in naming their sons. Go to the current FTDNA hosted page http://www.familytreedna.com/public/kelley and have a look at the Results. It will be much more meaningful when you can see the Participants Family Pedigree Forms which I hope will be real soon. Below is information about the KELLEY family DNA Project [for genealogy purposes] in which I hope your husband, Richard, will be willing to participate. I have done it with the SHIRLEY DNA project and it has been very helpful. Hope to hear from you. Ken Shirley Grantville, KS (785) 246-3024 [email protected] ================================================ Time to join the KELLY/KELLEY DNA Project! KELLY/KELLEY DNA Project -- below is a copy of a posting by Ken Shirley [trying to find LANE participants]. I have updated it so that it applies to the KELLY/KELLEY DNA Project. The KELLY/KELLEY DNA Project is Raymond KELLY at the following email address: [email protected] He will be happy to help you start to simple process of becoming a KELLY/KELLEY DNA project participant. ---------------------------------------- To: All KELLY/KELLEY descendants/researchers, but in particular those of Tennessee counties of Robertson, Montgomery, Warren, McMinn (among others); Illinois Counties of Franklin and Williamson; Kentucky county of Lincoln; South Carolina county of Greenville Purpose: Seeking male KELLY/KELLEY descendants for the KELLY/KELLEYDNA Project [ at FamilyTree DNA.com ]. From: Kenneth W. SHIRLEY [descendant of Nathan Hiram KELLEY b1822 Robertson Co. TN, son Benjamin KELLEY b1784 (m Nancy YANCEY)--Benjamin the son of Richard KELLEY of Greenville Co. SC 1790s. There is a KELLY/KELLEY surname DNA project already in place at FamilyTreeDNA.com . You can contact Raymond KELLY directly and he will see to it that a DNA kit is mailed to the name and address you give him. Follow the instructions received with the kit, then mail it in to FamilyTreeDNA along with payment, and wait for the results. It is a simple and painless procedure--brushing the inside of your cheek with a "cotton swab-like" collector. Be sure to include information about your earlier KELLY/KELLEY ancestors. It is my understanding that the results would be sent to the participant and a copy of the results to the DNA project coordinator [Raymond] who would post the results [anonymously], along with the name of your earlier PROVEN male KELLY/KELLEY ancestors, at the KELLY/KELLEY DNA project website. Your results can then be compared with other project participants. You can check all this out with Raymond, if necessary. You might mention that I had contacted himr recently about the KELLY/KELLEY DNA project. A few reminders: The KELLY/KELLEYLANE DNA project must be a MALE with the surname of KELLY/KELLEY [or any variation, or a male who thinks he might have descended from a male KELLY/KELLEY ancestor]. Female KELLY/KELLEY descendants/researchers can assist greatly by recruiting male KELLY/KELLEY DNA project participants and/or assisting the male participants financially with the cost of the DNA testing. There are three levels of DNA testing available for what we are doing [the 12-marker test, the 25 marker test, and the new 37 marker test]. As we discussed, the more markers the better--whatever you feel you can do financially. The more markers the more expensive the test, but the more you have to compare among branches of the KELLY/KELLEY family. I did the 25-marker test with FamilyTreeDNA on my SHIRLEY line some time ago and plan to upgrade to the 37-marker test before long. As I also mentioned, you can get details on the DNA testing, etc. from Group Administrator, Raymond KELLY. Please note that I am in no way affiliated with the DNA testing company, FamilyTreeDNA, and am just trying to find participants from my KELLEY line. Hope to hear soon that you have sent off for the DNA test kit, and shortly after that--that you have mailed in the kit for analysis. Thanks for your interest.
