Surnames: Kelley Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CYm.2ACIB/3158 Message Board Post: Anyone have any idea who Beal Kelley's parents are? He was born (he says when applying for pension) in Md. in 1750. Many say his wife was Elizabeth, (could be, but it's not Ashley). Had a son James b. in Ky. in 1771. He had a dau. Mary Lauraina, who married Benjamin Majors & died enroute to Mo. about 1820. Tax records show him in Clark Co., Ky. in 1800, 1810 census shows him in Logan Co., Ky, he was Rev. soldier , he was with D. Boone at Boonesborough with Joseph and Benjamin Kelley. He signed marriage bond for his granddaughter Prudence Kelley when she married Dillingham Thacker in 1837 in Warren Co., Ky. He died sometime after that in 1837 in Logan Co. Also having trouble proving he was father of James Kelley who married Elizabeth Ashley in Clark Co. in 1807. Any clues would be appreciated. Thanks.

The 1850 census for Marion in Putnam County Indiana (page 466) has a Jerry Kelley age 4 born in Michigan. His parents are James Kelley age either 28 or 38 and Mary age 28 or 38 (I can't read the handwriting easily)--both parents born in Ireland. Others in the household are William age 14, born in Ireland, and Ellen age 1, born in Michigan. Sorry James and Mary Kelley are such common names:( IN 1860 Jerremiah Kelley age 13 (born 1846) is found in Floyd in Putnam County Indiana. His birthplace is given as Indiana but errors in birthplace and date are common in census records. He appears to be living in the household of David Wilkinson, a farmer age 33. There are several other Wilkinsons in the household. There is no occupation given for Jerremiah suggesting that he is a relative or some kind of ward and not a hired laborer. I didn't find him in 1870 but in 1880 he is with his wife Mary and their son Lafayette age 6 in Posy County, IN. Nancy

His parents, according to his account, came as immigrants thru Canada, to Detroit, then to possibly a place in IN, then on to Ottumwa, Iowa, where Jerry enlisted Civil War. We have war records. We have no identification of his parents. Interestingly among his children, first born was Lafayette, Dec 14,1873-May10 1890. No offspring. Wondering where that name came from, both Jerry and Lafayette. Then I read mention of a Lafayette in the Benjamin line. Was that only significant because of the Frenchman, or was it in the family? Still wondering if Jerry might be a Jeremiah, but the trail has grown cold. Do these names/dates match any out there? 3. This information may not help you but I have a Zachariah S. Kelley in my tree. He was the son of James Kelley (my gggg grandfather, born 1786 in Virginia, died Abt. 1860 in Oconee Co., SC, and married Salley Sullins on 02 Jul 1807 in Rutherford Co., NC). Zachariah S. Kelley was their 1st child and named after Salley's father. He was born Abt. 1808, died Abt 1864 in Rutherford Co., N.C. His siblings were: Malinda B. Kelley, born 27 Jan 1813 in NC, died 28 Dec 1895 in Oconee Co., SC Alfred Burton Kelley born Abt 1816 William Bryson Kelley born 20 Dec 1818 Mary Yowell Kelley born Abt 1820 JOSEPH HOWARD KELLEY (ggg grandfather) born 03 Jun 1822 in Walhalla, Oconee Co., SC, died 20 Jun 1902 in Walhalla, married Abt. 1843 to Elizabeth Hunnicutt, in Walhalla Surry Kelley born Abt. 1824 Hiram Kelley born Abt 1825 Andrew Kelley born Abt 1826 Patrick Kelley born Abt. 1827 James Kelley born Abt. 1829, died 16 Dec 1864, married Catherine Sharp M. Beauregard Kelley born Abt 1831 I know these dates are not around the 1760 but James Kelley's father would have been in that period. He came from Ireland and married a Pennsylvania Dutch but I have not been able to find when, where or how he came over. I can find no record (yet) of when they left Virginia for NC. I have records of James, Joseph, and Beauregard in the Civil War. Also, a coincidence, my father's name was Robert Kelley. I hope this might help you in your research.

Surnames: KELLEY/KELLY/ BRYANT/ BLACK/ SHERIFF/LANGLEY/RAMPEY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CYm.2ACIB/3156 Message Board Post: Hello, I am working on my deceased husband's family from South Carolina. I am looking to find information to confirm the children of Frances Kelley and their spouses. My information and research has Frances Kelley as a daughter of Daniel Calloway Kelley and Sarah Black. They lived in the Anderson area and married into several families there. I show her the mother of six (6) children: of which a John Richardson is reported to be the father of them all; just that he and Frances never married. She appears on Census records from 1850 through 1880 always head of the house with children and new children each census record and all retaining the surname of Kelley. Children were: 1) Sarah Ann b. about 1842 m? Jesse Langley?? 2) Benjamin Perry b. 2 Aug 1850 d. 23 Sep. 1932* my relation m. Matilda Caroline Sheriff. 3) John Kelley b. about 1854 - no further information. 4) Nancy Kelley b. 1857 d. 1906 m. Benjamin Durham Bryant 5) Mary Kelley b. about 1859 - no further information 6) George A. Kelley b. about 1865 - no further information. I have several contacts for this family and one question confuses me. That the oldest daughter Sarah married a Jesse Langley. When other information tells me that the widowed mother of #2's spouse married a Jesse Langley. So, if Ben's sister Sarah Kelley really married Jesse Langley, where are they and their family?? I have been to the grave of Benjamin Perry Kelley and his wife Matilda Caroline Sheriff Kelley in Six Mile Baptist Church. There in the family plot they are buried together and also in the family plot is a James Kelley, their son b. 1876 d. 1884. Then a Sarah, wife of Jesse Langley 1842-1912. Is this Sarah, Benjamin's sister Sarah Kelley who married Jesse Langley or Sarah Gambrell Sheriff, widow of John Sheriff and mother-in-law of Ben P. Kelley?? It seems tangled, but maybe someone out there knows the answer. I was new at learning cemetery research back in 1979 when I went there and saw their graves, and did not know all the family members. With the computer age I have found a child of Jesse Langley and a Sarah who fits to be the widow of John Sheriff and this child went by the name William Sheriff and Harrison Sheriff. CENSUS: 1880 Anderson Co., SC. Jesse Langley age 49 and wife Sarah age 41. Son Harrison Langley age 10. CENSUS: 1900 Pickens Co., SC - Sarah Langley age 68, living in the Rempy household, her daughter, Nannie and husband and son Dennis age 1, born July 1899. Married for 2 years, one child and one child living. Sarah's birth date says Sept 1831, which is about 10 years off. Harrison Sheriff m. Rosa Lee Rochester. Harrison died in 1915. I have used many listings from the 'OLD PENDLETON DATABASE,' which has given me much insight on these families. Corrections and additions appreciated. Share my information with you. Thank you.
