They were in Missouri in 1880 and in Indiana in 1869 when they married. Martha was born in Ohio and moved to Indiana with her family around 1860. It sounds like your Kelley's were in Kansas well before mine were.

I have a small booklet (Its about 23 pages) titled "Early Settlers of Fort Boonesborough" by H Thomas Tudor, dated February 18, 1975. He lists: Beal Kelley, Joseph Kelley (killed), Benjamin Kelly (killed) and John Kelly. The monument at Fort Boonesborough also lists all of the above Kelley/y's (I haven't been there but I have pics that a friend took that shows the names) Pat Kelly __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Among them was John Kelley. Best Regards, Raymond Kelly

All the other men joined about a month earlier at Council Bluffs, IA. But Nicholas's enlistment was different in that he joined about a month later, in August 1846, at Council Grove KS. In your message, the date plus the surname made me think maybe there was a connection.
You may have found this 1870 census record already, but just in case you haven't: I believe I've found your family in the 1870 Etowah Alabama Census: Kelley, S. S., age 43, b. SC, Farm laborer " , Eliza A., age 43, b. SC, keeping house, " , Wm., age 19, b. Ala., Farm laborer " , Jos., age 16, b. Ala., Farm laborer " , Eilen, age 10, b. Ala. " , Mary, age 8, b. Ala. " , Jas., age 2, b. Ala. And at the top of the next page, the enumerator spelled the surname: Kelly, Jno. B., age 36, b. SC, Farm laborer If this is the correct family, then your Joseph was born about 1854 in Alabama. I am sending you the two census pages in a separate e-mail, since attachments cannot be sent to Rootsweb. Hope this helps. Marion (1843-1907) married Martha PHEBUS (1849-1899) in White County, Indiana (1869) and from there I found them in the 1880 Census in Missouri then in Kansas. I also have a Kell(e)y-Hawkins connection. Eva Hawkins was born 1875 in VA (Benj. and Sarah Hawkins) married 1889 to Watt P. Kelly b. 1867 FL (George W and Jane B.) Any of these names sound familiar? Peg
