Margaret married William Reed (my grgr grandparents), Sally married Joseph Williams and Eliza married Samual Jackson. George married Helaner Betts. 1. Re: [KELLER-L] Followup - KELLER of Dauphin County, PA
    2. Janice A. Frank
    3. Hi all - this seems to happen to me more often than mere chance would account for, I no sooner send a carefully prepared question to a list than I get an answer, or part of it, from somewhere else entirely. Anyway, I have found out that the two Drs KELLER I asked about in the earlier message (below) are both buried in the Union Deposit cemetery in Dauphin Co PA and I now have definite dates for them, as follows: David C. Keller b 17 Aug 1814 d 19 Oct 1891 wife Catherine b 23 Jul 1823 d 21 Mar 1858 Henry D. Keller b 9 Dec 1825 d 9 Jan 1887 This of course does not tell me who their parents were which is what I am really trying to find out, but it may make it easier for others to identify them and should make it easier for me to find obits, which I will try next. I would like to hear from anyone who has heard of them. Jan Janice A. 1. [KELLER-L] Hello
    2. Glenn G. Geisheimer
    3. Hello fellow researchers, I'd like to thank Nancy for all the work she has done with these two lists and their respective Query and Information Forums. As you know by now I am the new list and forum administrator. Let me tell a little about myself: In addition to these two lists I also administer 9 other surname mailing lists, two county mailing lists and one state mailing list. The two things that I don't like to see on any mailing list are flame wars and virus warnings. If your interested on seeing how I run a mailing list you can read my Essex County Mailing List FAQ at: <http://www.rootsweb.com/~njessex/faq/mailinglist.htm> I also maintain a Virus Warning page explaining why I don't like virus warning posts (you can't get one from any RootsWeb Mailing List). The page is also updated with the latest cures: <http://www.rootsweb.com/~njessex/misc/virushoax.htm> Since all RootsWeb mailing lists are archived and the posts CANNOT be removed please be careful what you post and how you say it. While I'm on the subject of RootsWeb let me explain the problem. RootsWeb has made both of these mailing lists and will not combine them so they are here to stay. I will seek advice from other listowners as to how they handle the variant spelling lists. The RootsWeb Resource Pages for these lists are as follows: <http://resources.rootsweb.com/~clusters/surnames/k/e/KELLER/> <http://resources.rootsweb.com/~clusters/surnames/k/e/KELLAR/> Please go to these sites and see what they have to offer. If you have a web site for either surname please register it so that it will appear on the page. Also, please review the GenConnect Forums to see what is there and to post your own queries and information. My personal Keller ancestors came from Herrenalb and married the following surnames: Graessle, Geckle, Sigfried, & Schanzin. One last thing, I've been told that all my posts come across as lectures, it's just how I write, I'm really very friendly. : ) If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or criticisms please use my personal email address. Thanks and Good Luck, Glenn G. 3. Hi Keller list: I am trying to find out the ancestry of the following set of siblings; at least I *think* they are all siblings: 1. David C. KELLER b ca 1820, a physician in Union Depost, Dauphin Co for many years m Catherine Witmer 2. Leah KELLER b ca 1827 (my 2ggm) m 1st William SCHULTZ b ca 1817, Newmanstown, Lebanon Co, d ca 1849 Children: Abner William SHULTZ b 16 Jul 1846 Mary Elizabeth SCHULTZ b 29 Aug 1849 (my ggm) m Penrose FRANK m 2nd John Jacob SCHAEFFER of Dauphin County Child:Anne Elizabeth SCHAEFFER b 1854, Elizabethtown, Lanc Co. 3. Henry D. KELLER b ca 1830, also a physician, also in Union Deposit for a while 4. Ellen KELLER b ca 1832 m Henry KLEIN (? I am not sure this was she - if it was, they had several children). All birth dates are 'ca' because I cannot find any of them being born and although I can find most of them in the census, they never told the census the same thing twice. Their father may have been Michael Keller of South Hanover Twp, Dauphin Co; Leah and her two Schultz children were living in his household at the census of 1850, after William Schultz had died. The trouble with this theory is that his wife Catherine, if she was his wife, and if her age is correct (a risky assumption), was too old to be the mother of these siblings. (Could Michael and Catherine be their grandparents?) Does anyone know any of these people? If anyone is interested, I know a little more but nothing conclusive. I have plenty of descendants of Leah Keller and William Schultz to share. TIA Jan Janice Frank janiceaf@ix.netcom.com Listkeeper, FRANK-L

    1. [KELLER-L] New List Owner
    2. Mike and Nancy
    3. Hi all, I'd like to thank Glenn Geisheimer for stepping forward and volunteering to take over Keller-L, Kellar-L, and their GenConnect boards. I know he will do a wonderful job as the new list and board owner. You can contact him at glenng@castle.net if you want to drop him a welcome message. I've really enjoyed being the list owner of KELLAR-L for these past months and hope the list has been of some help to some of you. Good luck to you all and take care! (I'll be away for a little while, but I'll be back to hang out with you all on the list.) Nancy Dow

    1. [KELLER-L] Anyone want to be listowner?
    2. Mike and Nancy
    3. If anyone is interested in being the listowner for Keller-l and/or Kellar-l, let me know. The same person doesn't necessarily have to own both lists. It helps if you also take over the GenConnect boards associated with the list, but it's not necessary. Nancy

    1. Re: [KELLER-L] Message from New Listowner
    2. Mike and Nancy
    3. Jan, When KELLAR-L was established, it was intended for researchers who have family with either spelling variation: KELLAR or KELLER. If you visit http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/surnames/index.html, you'll see that there are many lists on RootsWeb that cover multiple variations of a spelling of a particular surname. For example, ACKERMAN-L is for sharing information on the Ackerman surname and any variation, such as Ackermann, Aukerman, Ackeman, etc. It was in this spirit that KELLAR-L was established. I could use only one spelling variation when I chose a name for the mailing list, so I chose the spelling that my direct line used. The choice certainly wasn't meant to exclude KELLER researchers. The list is for everybody. On the KELLAR-L list, there are several researchers (myself included) whose family used both the KELLER and KELLAR spellings. In my direct line, the KELLAR spelling stuck, but other tangental lines used the KELLER spelling. We have an idea about when the split took place, but we don't know why some chose one spelling and some chose another. So there are circumstances where one family used both spellings. And it has been helpful for many of us on KELLAR-L to discover and discuss the spelling difference. Some people researching KELLER families, especially in VA, WV, OH, and IL didn't realize they had KELLAR cousins. Having both spellings on one list has been very useful for some KELLER/KELLAR researchers as they discover the links between families with different spelling variations. I don't want to force people researching the KELLER spelling onto KELLER-L, because it makes it more difficult for some researchers to exchange information with, or even discover, their KELLAR cousins. So, KELLAR-L will need to remain for both KELLAR and KELLER researchers. As a result, KELLAR-L will have KELLER subscribers that may not be subscribed to KELLER-L. Therefore, a posting to that list will reach KELLER researchers who are not on this list. You certainly don't have to do so if you don't want to. It's up to you. I know it's confusing having two lists. I hope this explanation helps some. Good luck in your research! Nancy "Janice A. Frank" wrote: > > Nancy - I am sorry but I don't agree with this. 3. Nancy - I am sorry but I don't agree with this. It is very obvious that KELLER is the much more common form and I believe it should have a list of its own. In my experience (Pennsylvania German ones), I simply do not believe that KELLER is a variant of KELLAR - it may in fact be the other way around, I am not sure, but I have never seen the two both occur in the same family. I much prefer to have the KELLER researchers on one list and the KELLAR ones on another. If anyone in fact has both they can always join both. 1. [KELLER-L] Message from New Listowner
    2. Mike and Nancy
    3. Hello all, My name is Nancy Dow and I recently adopted the KELLER-L mailing list. I am also the owner of the KELLAR-L list, which I established back in February for both KELLAR and KELLER researchers. The KELLAR-L mailing list currently has 102 subscribers. (KELLER-L currently has 17 subscribers.) So you may be interested in subscribing to KELLAR-L, where your postings will reach a wider audience. To subscribe to KELLAR-L, send an e-mail message to KELLAR-L-request@rootsweb.com and type "subscribe" in the body. If you wish to subscribe in digest mode, send an e-mail message to KELLAR-D-request@rootsweb.com and type "subscribe" in the body. I look forward to seeing you there! I am also the owner of the KELLAR GenConnect Boards at http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/kel/Kellar. These boards have postings for both KELLER and KELLAR researchers. If you haven't already visited them, you might want to give them a look. Feel free to post any KELLER queries there, too. I have adopted the KELLER GenConnect Boards at http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/k/e/KELLER/queries and will be doing some work on them in the next day or so to customize them a bit. In the meantime, please feel free to post information on your KELLER/KELLAR families or request information on your "most wanted" Keller/Kellar. I'll send a separate e-mail with my Keller/Kellar line (I have both spellings in my line). And please consider joining the KELLAR-L list and posting your messages there, where you'll have a bigger audience for your postings. Good luck in your research and have fun! Nancy Dow Austin, TX

    1. Clark County, IL Lookup
    2. Shirley Reed
    3. Is there anyone from the Clark County, IL area who could do a census lookup for me. I believe there was a Joseph W. Keller listed in the 1860 census, and I would like to have any information you might be able to obtain from that census record. I am not in an area where I have access to the IL census.
