Hello Keller/Kellar Researchers, Yesterday a message came through the list with the subject line: List Owner Message This was sent erroneously by Leslie (Bridges) Kohler to both the KELLER and KELLAR mailing lists. She is the listowner of the KOHLER and KAHLER mailing lists. I am the List Owner of both these lists. Thank You and have a Merry Christmas, ------- Glenn G. Good Morning All- Well, I have finally "gone and done it"! <BG> I've agreed to take the KOHLER and KAHLER lists under my wings so that hopefully we can keep some continuity. Between 3 of us, who are watching these KÖHLER lists, I will hope we have things fairly well in hand. (I still believe that one list makes a lot more sense, but it is obvious that RootsWeb does not agree. <G>) MERRY CHRISTMAS/HAPPY HOLIDAYS ~Leslie (Bridges) Kohler~ P.O.Box 8137, Glendale, AZ 85312-8137 P.O.Box 276, Carrollton, MO 64633-0276

Our elusive KÖHLER listed himself as being from Saxony-Coburg and also as having been born in Metz. There are a number of Metz/Metze towns in the Germanic areas of Europe, but to date I have had little luck finding one in what was (1837-1852) Saxony-Coburg in pre-Germany. I have been advised that possibly this area is now part of Bavaria. Any clues? BTW, I realize that he might have moved from a Metz birth place to Saxony-Coburg before emigrating to the US, but I still feel the need to investigate. ~Leslie (Bridges) Kohler P.O.Box 8137, Glendale, AZ 85312-8137 P.O.Box 276, Carrollton, MO 64633-0276

Where and what state was he born in? My gg grandfather Riley Keller was born 29 December 1811 in NC and I haven't a clue as to his parents an if he had brothers and sisters. Believe me I need all the help that I can get to track the family down. <VBG> Know where he is buried, but the courthouse burned the year that he died, 1885. I have been told Kell is a variation of Keller, from the agelic side. I found 3 Kell who sued to obtain Cherokee citizenship in the late 1800's, claiming they were of Cherokee descent! There is a huge, complete full name index of all these people at http://members.aol.com/rarebk/ They were Betsy, James, and a Mary. I also found a surname index to another Cherokee book at the site, an old book, supposedly rare, called Old Cherokee Families and their genealogy, with a lot of English names, but did not check for Gunter. I did have some names copied for me. There is some Creek Indian genealogy stuff as well. If you go there to the sites main page, click on the Booklists page, and then slowly scroll down past some old genealogy book titles until you get to the Cherokee section. There are some Cherokee genealogy books there, and at least two of them has this complete index posted. Quite fascinating! Colonel David C. Keller 1839-1902, a brevet colonel from the Civil War who kept the rank all his life and became a hotel keeper in Reading, PA. I have a photocopy of his holograph will written on the letterhead of his hotel, and a couple of copies of printed obits from Reading area papers. He was apparently well known in his time. He is not mine; I acquired these before I had it straightened out that mine, whose lifetime overlapped with his, Doctor David C. Keller 1814-1891, of Dauphin county, was of a different family and no relation as far as I can tell, though he was also well known and this caused me a lot of confusion. If any descendant of the colonel is on this list and wants these, let me know, you can have them for a SASE. Jan

Eastman. It is re-published here with the permission of the author. ~ ~ ~ The Jewish Genealogical Society of New York has begun an effort to create an online searchable database of the index to Brooklyn Naturalizations from 1907 to 1924. These records are located in the Kings County Clerk's Office. This project is being done in partnership with the Italian Genealogy Group and the German Genealogy Group. Phase I of this ongoing project is complete and may be accessed and searched. The database already contains more than 65,000 names are already available in this database. The Jewish Genealogical Society does caution everyone that the online database is brand-new and they are still tuning it a bit. If everyone logs on at the same time the system may become slow or cease to function entirely. If you have problems accessing the site, they recommend that you log off and try again a few hours later. The Brooklyn Naturalization Index On-line database is available through the JGS (NY) homepage located at http://www.jgsny.org My thanks to Estelle Guzik, President of the Jewish Genealogical Society of New York for letting me know about this great online resource.

Seeking ancestry of Barbara Keller. b.1764 d.1838...both may have occurred in Montgomery County NY where she was married to Francis Froelich (Freligh/Fralick) who was born in Germany, but served in the Revolutionary War. Any connections out there? Dixie ===== Researching surnames: Bromley/Carter/Dean(e)/Doud/Edson/Fralick/Moffatt/Willis-NY&PA connections.
