Will have to check my parameters. I don't use the facts item very often, it makes the report too technical for general reading. My past articles, books, etc., have been fortunate to win awards and honorable mentions, always, part of the reason is, they are "easy to read, follow and are in general interesting." Direct quote from the actual record: Richard, son of Richard of Aslackby, was baptized August 30, 1816" Children were born at home. the Church they used was some 4 plus miles from where they resided. Trip to the church, on foot, or by wagon--horseback---It was Aug, it was summer, and Richard was a "yeoman"--meaning,he had fields, crops, animals to tend. Richard of the baptism could easily have been born some months before. have someone who owwes me a faovr over there attempting to look for an estate record of either Richard or his wife,, or Thomas Elderidge, paternal grandfather to Richard---because perhaps they died naming his one of the relatives in "the Colonies". Oddly enuf, Thomas , who was in acutality an Eldrige, is probably an Ancestor of mine---my paternal 2nd grt gandparents being Eliza Eldridge and William Spencer of Osbournby, Lincs. In general, all passengers were listed by name and age , any age he gave to the ships' ledger keeper, could easily apear to be off by a year. Again, Having DeBrett's, Ron Kellam of Chelmsford, Essex, and personal searching, plus work, done by a cousin in Hertfordshire, have found no other Richards in England that even come close to this one. Doesn't mean there isn't any, just not found, perhpas not surviving records. Then add the rest of the evidence---a preponderance. As I said, this is not my line, nor remotely connected at this juncture. But, having been given, inherited/done, work on Southern Kellams for some 20 years, I feel duty bound, to some degree, to attempt to sort out and share. Am always happy for anyone to come forward with other evidence, prove me wrong, solve the problem. Sheila // Firehair

Troopers Seitz and Patrick Kellum lifted the midsize 1993 Chevrolet Corsica three or four inches, high enough to relieve pressure on 23-month-old Kayla. (BEACON JOURNAL, 475 words.) Trailing 54-47 and clawing on every possession to get back in the game, Akron's Eddie Kellum forced a Kent turnover at halfcourt and streaked toward the Akron basket. A basket would have made it 54-49 and the Zips, who forced 22 Kent turnovers, could have made a run at winning the game in the final 2: (BEACON JOURNAL, 437 words.) 1. [KELLAM] Kellam-Goddard Connection
    2. Don Stout & Linda Goddard Stout
    3. Hello All, Great info recently on the descendants of Richard Kellam. It is appreciated. Still looking for a Kellam-Goddard connection. I believe the wife of a William Goddard (my 4th great-grandfather) who settled in western PA (Greene county) c1785, was possibly an Elizabeth Kellam. Their oldest son's name was Henry Kellam Goddard, born c1780. Other children were: Francis Goddard; William Goddard; Joshua Goddard; Elizabeth Goddard and Ann Goddard. Does anyone know of a Kellam-Goddard connection? William and Elizabeth were possibly married in the Sussex Co, DE/Somerset Co, MD area. Any help appreciated. Linda Goddard Stout

A >> Is the 1637 a mistyping that should be 1635. If he was born Aug. 30, 1618, the answer to how old he was on 27 Jul 1635 would be 16, but in 1637 it would be 18 -- and why was he giving his age in that year -- for what purpose. Lord knows, I know how easy it is to make a slip like this, as one's eyes go back and forth between the paper on the desk and the computer screen, especially for me right now as I'm battling a very annoying eye allergy problem that leaves them itching and producing what my Mom always called "matter" out of every corner that serves to create a film that interferes with clear vision. I do hope you won't think I'm trying to be critical, because I'm not. I have a great interest in trying to find the ancestors of the Kellams of Accomac and Somerset counties, and will be absolutely delighted if you can be the one to provide the missing links. Thank you so much for all the time and effort that you are putting into all this. We've not been working on the Kellams for some time, but these recent exchanges create new hope of making progress, thanks mostly to your good work. Sincerely, Allan E. Green

Firehair Descendants of Richard Kellam Generation No. 1 1. RICHARD1 KELLAM was born 1581. He married KATHERINE EDERIDGE March 17, 1615/16 in Aslackby, Lincolnshire, England, daughter of THOMAS EDERIDGE. She was born 1595. Notes for RICHARD KELLAM: Listed Yeoman on the marriage record, age 35, of Osbourneby. (4.3 miles N. of Aslackby.) Notes for KATHERINE EDERIDGE: Spinster, age 21, of Aslackby, daughter of Thomas, Yeoman, of Osbournby, St. Paul, LIncolnshire. Information given in church records. Children of RICHARD KELLAM and KATHERINE EDERIDGE are: 2. i. RICHARD2 KELLAM, b. August 30, 1618, Aslackby, Lincolnshire, England; d. 1703, Accomack Co., Virginia. 3. ii. JOHN KELLAM, b. April 13, 1620, Swanton, Lincolnshire, England. iii. CATHERINE KELLAM, b. June 16, 1622. Generation No. 2 2. RICHARD2 KELLAM (RICHARD1) was born August 30, 1618 in Aslackby, Lincolnshire, England, and died 1703 in Accomack Co., Virginia. He married SARAH AINSLEY. Notes for RICHARD KELLAM: This appears to be the Richard who sailed from London to Virginia on the ship "Primrose", 25 July 1635, giving his age as 16 on 27 July 1637. A lengthy search of the Parish records, other available sources - 1539 to 1654 has been made, and this is the only to be found who corresponded with the Richard of Virginia. There were no Richards recorded either side of that date, say, 1615,17,19. Also, there is no death record for the Richard of 30 Aug 1618, no marriage, no further mention of him, which would be expected if he had left England. The Kellams in Lincolnshire, seemed to concentrate in Osbournby, Aslackby, and Pinchbeck within a mile or two of each other. Kelham is only a few miles from these Parishes, on the Trent River. Is it co-incidence Richard of Virginia settled, in a river named--Trent? Upon landing in the Colonies, Richard was indentured to one Nicholas Whitlowe/Whiddelowe, Northampton Co., Virginia, a farmer whose family was staunchly quaker. Richard was to work off his passage debt. Once he had done so, he began to accumulate land for himself. In 1663, Richard traveled to the Pocomoke River, in somerset Co., Maryland, purchasing some 500 Acres, calling it "Kellam's Folly". He also brought to Northampton Co. Virginia one John Kellam, in 1664, who appears to be his nephew. John made his own way, becoming overseer of Benefields, and Kellam's folly passed into the hands of one Robert Ingraham. Altho Richard could well have claimed money and/or work from John in payment for his passage, he did not do so. He did receive 50 Acres for bringing John to Virginia, proving it was deliberate, and his doing. He also used John's name, over and over, to claim more land in Virginia, as was the custom. JOHN2 KELLAM (RICHARD1) was born April 13, 1620 in Swanton, Lincolnshire england. He married NOT NAMED 1645 in Cowbit, Lincolnshire, England. Children of JOHN KELLAM and NOT NAMED are: 4. i. ANN KELLAM, b. November 13, 1653, Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire, England. v. ALICE KELLAM, b. November 12, 1654, Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire, England. Generation No. 3 4. JOHN3 KELLAM, SR. (JOHN2, RICHARD1) was born 1646 in Cowbit, Lincolnshire, England, and died Bet. 1719 - 1721 in Somerset Co., Maryland. He married UNKNOWN Bet. 1673 - 1675 in Virginia or Maryland. She was born Bet. 1650 - 1653. Notes for JOHN KELLAM, SR.: John, emigrated 1664 to Virginia. Probably at the encouragement of his Uncle, Richard of Accomack. Records for John Kellam in Maryland appear to begin in 1666. Besides debt books, quit rents, attesting to the fact he managed a plantation ("Benefields") in Pocomoke Hundred, first for one Col. Scarborough. When the Col. died in 1702, he continued for the Scarborough children until he , himself, died about 1720. The family was evidently anti-Catholic, and John signed the "Address of Loyalty" for William of Orange, dated 28 November 1689. also signing this petition were: Randle Revell, Thomas Purnell, Sr., William Coard, Thomas Poynter, along with other Church of England and Presbyterian neighbors of Somerset Co., Maryland. John Kellam purchased 300 acres from the government in 1695. It became known as "Kellam's Choice", was located north of "Benefields", near the headwaters of the Pocomoke River. That part of Somerset Co. was settled by Indians at that time. John is said to have bought it from an "Indian Princess"---which didn't, do not exist, but, he may well have dealt with a Chief's daughter, sister. John and his wife purchased 600 acres not too far away, called "Wing", in Manokin Hundred. It was surveyed for William Stevens, but given to Jospeh and William Grey. I was then purchased by John Kellam, Sr. 11 June 1696. Both parcels of land were in Snow Hill Parish, also referred to as "All Hallows". Snow Hill exists today. John's wife's name does not appear on the land transactions. As this author is someone who deals with Indian/Native tradtion , ways, history, all the time, I would hazard an educated guess John's unknown wife was an Indain, giving him easy access to Indian land---we didn't generally deal with individuals, one on one, unless you were "part of the family". Also, the fact her name never shows on the land dealings, even tho dower rights would normally come into play, is another clue in that direction. Considering the Kellams, Northern Southern have always had a large propensity for marrying Native, this is something to be considered. This John Kellam was generally referred to as John, Sr., or John ,the Elder. He had a son, John (Jr.) a son, William, who did jury duty 1697. Under the law he would have had to be at least 21. This has given an estimate of John's marriage. John's will was written 1719, naming his living children. According to the way it was set up, on deeds dated 17 January 1710, 15 December 1710, William and Thomas were each given half each of "Wing", in so long as they took care of John, Sr. (no mention of their Mother, she an indication she was probably already dead) If the boys died prior to John, Sr. the land would revert to Mary and Catherine---same entailments. John was residing in Boguerternorten Hundred, All Hallow's Parish when he did the foregoing. Whatever, his sons predeceased him. John made his mark on his will, indicating he could not write. In this will, he gave John, Jr. "Wing", where he was living, in 1719 (John Sr.) and John, Jr. was also given 150 Acres of "Kellam's Choice". If John, Jr. died before John, Sr., then John, Jr.s share went to his son, Joshua Kellam. Children of JOHN KELLAM and UNKNOWN are: 5. i. WILLIAM4 KELLAM, b. WILLIAM4 KELLAM (JOHN3, JOHN2, RICHARD1) was born Bet. 1675 - 1676 in Somerset Co., Maryland, and died Bet. 1715 - April 11 1719 in Somerset Co., Maryland. He married TABITHA TRUETT, daughter of JAMES TRUETT. She was born in Northampton Co.,Virginia. Notes for WILLIAM KELLAM: Next of kin for William were given as an Adam Spence, who was also the appraiser, and John Kellam, Sr. William's daughters (not named) were given "personality" under their grandfathers will. Children of WILLIAM KELLAM and TABITHA TRUETT are: i. JOHN III5 KELLAM. Received 150 acres of "Kellam's Choice" under his grandfathers will. ii. DAUGHTER KELLAM. iii. DAUGHTER KELLAM. 6. JOHN JR.4 KELLAM (JOHN3, JOHN2, RICHARD1) was born Abt. 1685 in Somerset Co., Maryland, and died 1739 in Somerset Co., Maryland. He married (1) JOAN LANE Abt. 1707 in Somerset Co., Maryland, daughter of WALTER LANE and SARAH KIRK. She died Bef. 1762 in Somerset Co., Maryland. He married (2) SARAH PURNELL Bet. 1735 - 1736, daughter of THOMAS PURNELL, JR.. She died Abt. 1745 in Somerset Co., Maryland. Notes for JOHN JR. KELLAM: John held onto "Wing", even tho, under the deed of 1710, he shouldn't have been able to. Mary and Catherine did eventually inherit it, after John, Jr died. John, Jr.s will proved he had been married twice, and separates the children, all but one by Joan Lane, wife # 1. His will, written in 1739, probated in 1744. By Jone, he had 9 children. Joshua, isaac, William, John, Sarah Kellam Poynter, Charity Kellam Landfort, Anne Kellam Hale, Mary and Jemima Kellam. Ages of children by Jone/Joan, estimated only. With his second wife, Sarah Purnell Outten Kellam he had one daughter, Sarah. His will, while not specifically mentioning "Wing", did add up to about 1500 acres of land, in varying parcels. He specifically dealt with the then 300 Acre Kellam's Choice". Notes for JOAN LANE: "Jone" Kellam collected quit rents on her property "Dickenson's Folly" through 1733. Her death date is not known. she may have died sooner. Indications are her husband may have remarried before 1736--but the rents were paid. Notes for SARAH PURNELL: Sarah had 8 children by John OUtten, of whom one was PUrnell, who ended up being the grandparents of John Purnell Kellam. According to the FTM relationship charter, Sarah thus became the blood great grandmother of John Purnell Kellam via her first marriage, and related to him by marriage via her second husband. No sons. the property of his father," Yarmouth", "Claywell's Security", was divided among them. "Wing". so long in the Kellam family, is not mentioned. 2. O.K. Another day of pulling massive files and poking in data. Some years ago, abt 1989, a Kellam cuzzin visited us from New Zealand, he was from the Lincolnshire branch, my great aunt's (1875-19181) (yup, you read it right, she lived to be 106, mind just super) line, she had md. a Lincolnshire Brewster, her Mother in law was a Kellam. My Mother's line goes back via Austin, to Bury St. Edmunds. Ron's cuzzin, Ron, of Essex, and I got into correspondence over the years, he sent me a batch of info, some of which I already posted. Ron in NZ died last year, and I recently rec'd a file he wanted me to have. Well, it was work he and the other Ron, 2nd cuzzins, had put together, partly for themselves, partly for me, some done for a couple "Yanks" in Linncs. I think I may be onto something. I haven't poked in all the info or the citations, by any means--just kept it simple for now---I DO have to feed my kids, you know!!! Read carefully, naming patterns, ages, time spans, all check out. And, I am only about 3 inches of paper from solving the connection to John Kellam, who fathered the NC branches. I think I may see a glimmer of which way that one goes. comments, or glaring discrpancies, left up to you guys. WILLIAM LINGO, Bet. 1685 - 1690; b. 1665; d. 1728, New Holland, Somerset Co., Maryland.. vii. ROSE KELLAM, m. RICHARD GARRETTSON. 3. JOHN2 KELLAM (RICHARD1) was born April 13, 1620 in Swanton, Lincolnshire england. He married NOT NAMED 1645 in Cowbit, Lincolnshire, England. Children of JOHN KELLAM and NOT NAMED are: 4. i. JOHN3 KELLAM, SR., b. 1646, Cowbit, Lincolnshire, England; d. Bet. 1719 - 1721, Somerset Co., Maryland. ii. KATHARINE KELLAM, b. July 11, 1651. iii. RICHARD KELLAM, b. July 11, 1651. iv. ANN KELLAM, b. November 13, 1653, Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire, England. v. ALICE KELLAM, b. November 12, 1654, Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire, England. Generation No. 3 4. JOHN3 KELLAM, SR. (JOHN2, RICHARD1) was born 1646 in Cowbit, Lincolnshire, England, and died Bet. 1719 - 1721 in Somerset Co., Maryland. He married (1) UNKNOWN Bet. 1666 - 1675 in America. He married (2) UNKNOWN 1675. Notes for JOHN KELLAM, SR.: John, emmigrated 1664 to Virginia. Probably at the encouragement of his Uncle, richard of Accomack. Records for John Kellam in Maryland appear to begin in 1666. Besides debt books, quit rents, attesting to the fact he managed a plantation ("Benefields") in Pocomoke Hundred, first for one Col. Scarborough. when the Col. died in 1702, he continued for the Scarborough children until he ,himself, died about 1720. It became known as "Kellam's Choice", and was located north of "Benefields", near the headwaters of the Pocomoke river. that part of somerset co. was settled by Indians at that time. Joh is said to have bought it from an "Indian Princess"---which didn't, do not exist, but,he may well have dealt with a Chief's daughter, sister. John and his wife purchased 600 acres not too far away, called "Wing". Both parcels of land were in Snow Hill Parish, also referred to as "All Hallows". Snow Hill exists today. John's wife's name does not appear on the land transactions. This John Kellam was generally referred to as John, Sr., or John ,the Elder. He had a son, John (Jr.) a son, William, who did jury duty 1697, under the law he would have had to be at least 21. This has given an estimate of John's marriage. John's will was written 1719, naming his living children. According to the way it was set up, on deeds dated 17 January 1710, 15 December 1710, William and Thomas were each given half each of "Wing", in so long as they took care of John, Sr. (no mention of their Mother, so, she was probably already dead) If the boys died prior to John, Sr. then the land would revert to Mary and Catherine---same entailments. John was residing in Boguerternorten Hundred, All Hallow's Parish when he did the foregoing. Whatever, his sons predeceased him. John made his mark on his will, indicating he could not write. In this will,he gave John, Jr. "Wing", where he was living, in 1719 (John Sr.) and John, Jr. was also given 150 Acres of "Kellam's Choice". If John, Jr. died before John, Sr., then John, Jr.s share went to his son, Joshua Kellam. John, emmigrated 1664 to Virginia. Probably at the encouragement of his Uncle, richard of Accomack. Children of JOHN KELLAM and UNKNOWN are: 5. i. WILLIAM4 KELLAM, b. Bet. 1675 - 1676, Somerset Co., Maryland; d. Bet. 1715 - April 11 1719, Somerset Co., Maryland. ii. THOMAS KELLAM. iii. CATHERINE KELLAM, m. UNKNOWN TAYLOR, Bef. 1719. iv. CHARITY UNKNOWN, m. UNKNOWN JOHNSON, Bef. 1719. v. SARAH KELLAM, m. UNKNOWN NICHOLSON. vi. ANN KELLAM, m. UNKNOWN COARD. vii. ELIZABETH KELLAM, m. UNKNOWN MORROW/MURRY. 6. viii. JOHN JR. KELLAM, b. Abt. 1685, Somerset Co., Maryland; d. 1739, Somerset Co., Maryland. Generation No. 4 5. Notes for JOHN III KELLAM: Received 150 acres of "Kellam's Choice" under his grandfathers will. KELLAM: John held onto "Wing", even tho, under the deed of 1710, he shuldn't have been able to. Mary and Catherine did eventually inherit it, after John, Jr died. John, Jr.s will indicated he had been married twice. His will, written in 1739, probated in 1744. by his first wife, Jone, he had 9 children. Joshua, isaac, William, John, Sarah Kellam Poynter, Charity Kellam Landfort, Anne Kellam Hale, Mary and Jemima Kellam. With his second wife, Sarah Purnell Outten Kellam he had one daughter, Sarah. Children of JOHN KELLAM and JOAN LANE are: i. JOSHUA5 KELLAM. ii. ISSAC KELLAM. iii. WILLIAM KELLAM. iv. JOHN KELLAM. v. SARAH KELLAM, m. UNKNOWN POYNTER. vi. CHARITY KELLAM, m. UNKNOWN LANDFORD. vii. ANN KELLAM, m. UNKNOWN HALE. viii. MARY KELLAM. ix. JEMIMA KELLAM. x. JOSHUA KELLAM. xi. ISAAC KELLAM. Child of JOHN KELLAM and SARAH PURNELL is: xix. SARAH5 KELLAM, b. Bet. 1736 - 1739. Notes for SARAH KELLAM: Named in her father'swill, as ."daughter Sarah, Sarah Kellam, the daughter of Sarah kellam, ONe bed and furniture, also my big pott that was my fathers and one skillet and three pewter dishes and six plates and two cows and calves, two chests, after her Mother's decease.."

    3. Woody --- The first group of names were from Church listings -- the name James showed up here, the second group of names came from gen work done for Outtens family and Joshua showed up. (the diff. in birth could be a mistake) All of my research shows a son Joshua, I am thinking his first or middle name is James. but I am just guessing -- John did have a relative that died shortly before by the name of Joshua. Again I am just guessing. The name James does not show up any more for this family David Kellam -----Original Message----- From: Woody Kellum <lwk@engin.umich.edu> To: KELLAM-L@rootsweb.com <KELLAM-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, August 07, 2000 11:07 AM Subject: RE: [KELLAM] REPLY to WOODY >Brenda - I was most concerned about the difference in first names. >Am I missing something? 2. Oliver, Thanks, and I will enter, and correct theformat. I spent about 8 hours going over thepaerwork, notes, county histories, letters to me that are atleast 15 years old--- I apologise for any errors, but, these arenot my lines, I wasn't "hired" to work on them, and a great deal;, whether written to me, or done in county books, may be in error. Just attemt[pting to get this info out so others can get a clue, correct---otherwise, we'll be perpetuating the same mistakes ad infinitum!!!--- I have more to add, re: Winston, brother to Nelson, but ran out of time. My daughter in law's birthday, we are the only family she has---so I cooked dinner and carried it over. Blackberry apple cobbler anyone? Made enuf to feed an army. :-) Also, my "triplets" begin their Senior year on Wednesday. Trophies for my shelf accepted.

    1. [KELLAM] maybe some help
    2. This is data entered frm several sources, and not totally "plugged in" or cleaned up. However, it may provide clues for someone. Firehair Descendants of William Kellam Generation No. 1 1. WILLIAM1 KELLAM was born Bet. 1730 - 1740 in Pennsylvania, and died Aft. 1838 in Rockingham Co., North Carolina. He married UNKNOWN MCDANIEL. She died Bef. 1820 in Rockingham Co, North Carolina. Notes for WILLIAM KELLAM: Came to North Carolina from Pennsylvania, settling near the Mayo River. He brought 5 children with him. William received land grants on the Virginia line in 1779 in what was part of Guilford Co., North Carolina that became Rockingham Co. He may have come down the old Wagon Road from outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvaaania, many in this area he settled did . Neither William, nor his own "brood" are mentioned in the Quaker records, nor did they over marry with that group, so a close relationship to the Accomack Co., Virginia Kellams isn't likely.
