Naron is a rare name in America, but back in Scotland and in early North Carolina well before the American Revolution it was Nairn, which is much more common in Scotland where there is a town, river, and county by that name. It is a bit more of a stretch, but why I mention this is that seeing the names of Kellam and Guntlet listed together above did make me wonder if Gunn could be a possible shortened name for Guntlet. Aimee, do you have any ideas about that?

    2. Knowing that way back we were probably all the same family, does anyone have any verifiable knowledge of the KILLAMS/KELLAMS, etc in England before 1500? I know that it gets very difficult to find resources once they are based out of the United States or even far, far back anywhere. Thank you for your thoughts on the subject. Ruth Killam Harriot

    2. Hi Rose, Thanks for the quick response. I have lost Jim and Paulines address and telephone number since they moved to their new home. Surely wish someone knew them and could get this message to them. He has the Virginia line around the Eastern Shore and has given me the info which is "boxed" somewhere here. I have recently found info that will tie the Virginia line to GA and TN and KY and TX and he has the original docs. Does anyone have any ideas on how to reach him? I've tried to no avail by phone. Anyone know Jom and Pauline KELLAM there in middle Flordia? I know he has three daughters, grown and married. HELPUL ideas appreciated. 2. Hi Ron, Just saw your post in regards to the NC KELLAM's ... I have long wondered about this bunch and tried and tried to fit them properly. I have that George KELLUM fought in the Revolution out of NC. Either he or (a cousin by the name of George, or perhaps a son named after him) moved to Georgia. I have that George KELLUM is a brother to Seth, John, and Job and Elizabeth KELLAM Gist and Nancy KELLAM Stevenson. Hope this helps, Brenda Kellam Schilling -----Original Message----- From: RBul1865@aol.com <RBul1865@aol.com> To: KELLAM-L@rootsweb.com <KELLAM-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, April 24, 2001 9:54 PM Subject: [KELLAM] Barsheba Kellam Greetings to the Kellam List: Does anyone have a Bathsheba or Barsheba Kellam in your data base? I looked at the 1790 census of Craven Co, NC, recently and found the following: James Kellum 1 0 0 Barsheba Kelleham 0 1 2 Nicholas Booty 2 0 3 I suppose that one of the three females in the family of Nicholas Booty would have been Rachel Booty, who married George Kellum on 29 June 1792 in Craven Co. I have seen the speculation that James Kellam above in 1790 Craven was the brother of George Kellum, but I do not recall having seen any speculation regarding Barsheba Kelleham, who appears to have been a widow with one son under 16 and one daughter. Does anyone have an idea about her? Can anyone place the location of George Kellum in 1790? 1. [KELLAM] Elizabeth Kellam? & William Goddard
    2. Don Stout & Linda Goddard Stout
    3. Hello Listers, Does anyone have in their Kellam research files a marriage for an Elizabeth Kellam and William Goddard? Date would have been c1778-79, possibly in either DE or MD. I don't know if my Elizabeth was a Kellam, but there is a possibility, since her oldest son's name was Henry Kellam Goddard. He was born c1780 in possibly DE or MD. The family was in Greene Co, PA by 1785. Trying to prove whether or not Elizabeth was, indeed, a Kellam. Thanks. Linda Goddard Stout

    2. Hi John Weldon of Midland, TX. I am sending this to Kellam listings as it ended with idea better to address all as team effort. Yes, I guess you could say be are "kissin cuzins" as I am descended from Sarah Bell Kellum, sister to Smith Kellum. My Sarah (called Sally by all) was born 7 Sep 1784 in Chatham, NC, and died in Pulaski Co. Ark. on 28 Aug 1840. She married John Douglass on 22 Feb 1806 in Davidson Co. TN. Her father was Henry Kellam b ca 1760 in either MD or VA. not sure, yet. He died 10 May 1799, 3 days after May 7 of 1799, date of his will. Family says he died as result of bear mauling him. He left wife, Martha, & children: 1. William born in late 1780's in NC 2. Sally Kellum Doglass b- 1784 3. MaryAnn Kellum Russell b- 178? NC 4. Mary Kellum Newell 5. Nancy Smith Newell 6. Lovey Kellum 7. John Kellum 8. Smith Kellum b- 10 Feb 1798 in Davidson Co. TN all named in his will. Martha Calhoun Kellam died in 1807 leaving youngest Smith age 9 yrs. He may have lived with brother William short time, but ended up with sister (my ancestor) Sally K. Douglass and made move to Pulaski Co. Ark. with his 2 sisters & husbands, John Douglass' parents Ezekiel & Mary Gibson Douglass and Smith age 20 & eight children of two sisters a party of 15 with all belongings on keel boat, in 1818 arriving there early in 1819. Smith m- Jane Pyeatt on 18 July 1822 and they died in 1838 & 1839 , respectively leaving 8 children: 1. John Pyeatt Kellum b- 29 Sep 1823 & d- 12 Jan 1901 2. William 8 Apr 1825 (he died when Emily Catherine was a baby & could not even remember him ca 1834-5) 3. James Kellum b- 14 Oct 1827 NFI 4. Martha Kellum b- 29 May `827 & d- 26 Jun 1909 5. Mary Kellum b- 8 Oct 1830 NFI 6. Emily Catherine Kellum b- 20 Nov 1832 NFI 7. Jacob Kellum b- 10 Dec 1835 & d 1 Aug 1908 8. Isaac Kellum b- 12 Feb 1836 & d- Feb 1877 I have photocopies of 3 original handwritten letters, one from Emily Catherine sending above b & d's to a nephew Fields, in AR, I presume. and 2 from John Pyeatt Kellum written in 1883 & 1905...both long letters with lot of info. In one he says he remembers Aunt Sally Douglass (my anc) saying the first Kellam/Kellum came to Del, then moved to MD & VA ......and later to TN & AR. These were sent to me by Peggy Williams of Tn who is a desc of MaryAnn Kellum Russell, my Sally's sister. I also have the lineage of Pyeatt family back to ca 1650 in France. Must go for now, busy, busy day and it is cloudy, raining, cold so it has been good day for computor work. take care, Meredith Gibson < calmeg47@aol.com > P.S> another marriage in Accormack Co VA of a: Smith Kellam to a Polly (Mary) Trehearn on 6 Oct 1819.............don't kknow who this Smith belonged unless son os Smithm- Polly POarker in 1787. A bit more grist for the mill!

    2. Dear John, I reference your message herewith in regards to J. G. Smith KELLAM. Would you have an idea of just what the initials stood for? I have never seen those initials attached to Smith KELLAM's name and therefore want to make sure of the correct gen. Also hoping that this will perhaps be John Gideon. This could possibly connect your Smith KELLAM of NC with my Seth KELLAM of NC/GA. Thanks, I look forward to the reply.
