I don't know if this is what happened. A young couple moved into our neighborhood and attended the church I attend. I was excited and thought I had found a relative of my neighbor. The young man told me that they had traced their ancestry and that the name of his family back to the Civil War days was a different name. That his ancestor lived in a southern state and he disagreed with the south and in order to avoid being drafted he ran away and escaped to the northern states and changed his name and never changed it back to the correct name.
