Ran across this recently - information I don't recall ever seeing before, so thought I'd share it with the rest of the Keim/Kimes researchers. I believe the Keim/Kimes lineage of this Franklin D Kimes (aka Francis D) is: his parents = George Washington Kimes (circa 1812- 1861) & Nancy Lee (died 1865) G W Kimes/Kymes' parents = Conrad Keim (1763-1835) & Elizabeth Cooper (1775-1861) Conrad Keim's parents = Heinrich (Henry) Keim (1732-1802) & Anna Catherina Reber source: History of Southeast Missouri; Published 1888 by The Goodspeed Publishing Co; page 898. "Franklin D. Kimes was born in Giles County, Tenn., December 15, 1847, and is a son of George W. and Nancy (Lee) Kimes, both natives of Tennessee, the latter of Lincoln County. After their marriage they resided in their native State until 1850, when they removed to Missouri. They, however, soon returned to Tennessee and located in Weakley County, where they remained until the fall of 1859. Coming again to Missouri they located in Pemiscot County, where Mr. Kimes died on February 11, 1861. Mrs. Kimes remained in Pemiscot County until the fall of 1863, when she moved to Scott County, where she died in 1865. Directly after his mother's death Franklin D. came to New Madrid County, in which county and Pemiscot County he has since made his home. He was married in the latter county on February 23, 1870, to Sarah Wright, a native of Missouri, and a daughter of William Wright, who was born of English parents. After his marriage Mr. Kimes was engaged in farming in Pemiscot County for two years, when he removed to New Madrid County, and was farming alternately in the two counties until 1879, when he located on his present farm in Lesieur Township, New Madrid County. He and his wife had six children: Ella, William F., David C., John P. (who died when three years of age), Edward E., and Jesse W. Mr. and Mrs. Kimes are consistent members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He is a Master Mason, and also a member of the Agricultural Wheel, being president of his lodge and one of the executive committee of the State lodge." I may be very distantly related to this family. In 1870, an O. J. Kimes was attending college in Delaware, OH. He was 21; b. in Indiana. Seems like O. J. Kimes might be Oscar J. Kimes, son of William and Elizabeth Kimes of Wayne Co, IN. The conclusion I've drawn from studying various records is that William Kimes of Wayne Co, IN, was a descendant of the Jacob Kimes who moved to Bourbon Co, KY, and died in Nicholas Co, KY, ca 1836. BRIEFLY: 1. Jacob Kimes had a son John who supposedly moved to Dayton, Ohio, with sons, Henry and William. 2. MANY of Jacob Kimes's children married in Allegany Co, MD, in the years from 1799 to 1808. 3. There was a John Kimes married Hannah Christman 07 April 1806 in Allegany Co, MD. 4. On a couple census schedules William's mother, Hannah, is living with him. Hannah listed b. in MD ca 1786. 5. William and Elizabeth Kimes of Wayne Co, IN, had children born in Ohio.
