I gave all my "children" a computer genealogy program for Christmas this year and a CD of my whole file. I plan to give them an updated file each Christmas. Some of them may never even install it on their computers but others have or will. I try to keep all my research within the notes section of the file, including my thoughts, questions, and suppositions (all noted as such). I have also been making family history books for quite a few years and giving them to every cousin and related person to that particular line in hopes that when I die most of what I have discovered will be out there somewhere for those who are interested. I have also given each of our children labeled photo albums with copies of most of the hundreds of photos we have acquired over the years. I included family trees to help them understand the relationships among the various family. Along with the photo albums all our children have been given many CDs containing scans of all the thousand + photos my dear husband has scanned. Yes, I post my file on Rootsweb and update it frequently. No, it is not perfect. Yes, it has lots of errors and I appreciate all those who take the time to help me correct things. If we wait to post things until perfect we miss contact with many new family members who can help us learn more and who we might be able to help. I have posted some information on lists but not all for sure and I guess I should do better at this. I believe in sharing as much as possible since in the sharing we spread the wealth and we receive so much new information in return. I have learned so much from so many other researchers and I hope that in some small way I help others in their quest for family information. -- Susan Kimes Burgess Fremont, CA suekbee@comcast.net Missie wrote: > Lori, Brenda & Cindy--y'all have inspired me to quit procrastinating!!!!! > I've got to get my act together AND start posting more! Susan, you are so right about posting the information you have, even if it isn't all correct. I just got an e-mail from a man that found my Keim family web page. His grandmother passed away this month and it got him looking for family information and that is how he found me. It turns out his Grandmothers mom was a sister to Grace Marie Keim Kneipp, my great grandmother. In the e-mail he sent me he gave me information on his Grandmother, all I had was who she married, he told me the names of her children and grandchildren, he also sent me information on some deaths, divorce's and remarriages. So it is good to get your information out there, also with an e-mail address that you can be found at. I have a hotmail and a Yahoo account I put on my web pages, because those accounts are free and I will always have them. MSN is my main e-mail account but someday I might leave MSN and this way I don't have to worry about changing everything I have out there with my e-mail addy on it, and my e-mail is in a lot of places. when my children wee in school they were ordered by the teacher to do their genealogy 4 generations back in order to pass. I am finding out that this is the normal way the schools are doing. I was able to go back 4 generations on both adopted and original family because of research. Half the class didn't know any more past their grand parents.
