Hi List, I've just been going thru some old cemetery pics from the Kime/Repp Cemetery in Burbank, Ohio, when glancing at one of the pics of the stone of George Kime, son of Conrad b. 1764 and Anna Maria Repp Kime....the stone shows his date of death as April 16, 1871, as is well known but his age as 72 yrs. That makes his date of birth 1799, not 1804 as is documented every place I have seen. Can anyone clear this up for me? My husband has been telling me for years that George was born in 1799 but I told him he was wrong, until I found this old file of pics we had taken back in the 1980's. So, now some correction is needed. Thanks, Nancy
Sometimes tombstones are not accurate. In George's case, the tombstone lists: GEORGE KIME d. 16 Apr 1871 72y3m12d That makes his birthdate 04 Jan 1799, but who really knew exactly how old George was? If one looks at census records, 1850 and 1860 are in agreement. The 1860 census lists George at age 58. That places his birth at 1801-1802. 1850 census lists George at age 48. Same birthdate, 1801-1802. [I couldn't find George on the 1870 census] With knowledge of George and his siblings in later life, then looking at his father's household in 1810, one can (in all probability) identify George: 1810 - Schuylkill Twp, Berks Co, PA MALES 2 under 10 (likely George and Conrad) 1 10-16 (likely Jacob, b. 1796) 1 16-26 (likely Johannes, b. 1789) 1 26-45 (Conrad, the father) 0 45+ It appears George was b. 1800-1810, but like Sherry said the other day... we have to keep an open mind. Identity of these males could be incorrect. So how does one know for sure? Genea. seminars frequently discuss birthdates and professional researchers suggest one look at the documented record closest in date to the actual record you seek. So what documented record(s) do you have close to George's birth? A baptism record would be great! George was likely baptized (other siblings were). The problem will be finding the record if one still exists! Good luck in your search! [and if you locate the baptism record, we'd love if you would share it with us!] Nancy Kime <nbk1748@gmail.com> wrote: I've just been going thru some old cemetery pics from the Kime/Repp Cemetery in Burbank, Ohio, when glancing at one of the pics of the stone of George Kime, son of Conrad b. 1764 and Anna Maria Repp Kime....the stone shows his date of death as April 16, 1871, as is well known but his age as 72 yrs.
