I have a question on figuring relatives. Since Emma is a sister to Samuel R Kimes and he is my great grandfather, what relation is she to me? I would guess some kind of a great aunt, but not sure what. P.S. I have seen her name spelled Emaline, so I'm not sure which is correct. Is someone positive it is spelled Emeline? -- Kit Kimes Oswego, IL -------------- Original message -------------- From: Cindy Kimes <cindykimes@yahoo.com> > EMMA'S ANCESTRY: > Emeline Kimes, born 11 March 1863 in WV; died 29 October 1932 in Akron, Summit > Co, OH. My genealogy software says she is your great-grandaunt. Makes sense... she's Everett Clyde Kimes's aunt, and Samuel Richard Kimes's great-aunt. kitkimes41@comcast.net wrote: I have a question on figuring relatives. How does one know what is the correct spelling. We look at documents listing Emma... sometimes it's Emma, sometimes Emaline, sometimes Emeline. Documents are usually what someone else has recorded. I'm thinking you'd need to see something in Emma's own handwriting to answer that question. kitkimes41@comcast.net wrote: P.S. I have seen her name spelled Emaline, so I'm not sure which is correct.
