Art, Your "find" brings up some questions I've wondered about. Would WHERE someone took the Oath of Allegiance have anything to do with where they lived? Did they have to take the Oath in the County of residence? OR, could they take the Oath in any Court? TODAY, Maiden Creek Twp is part of Berks Co, but Berks Co wasn't created until 1752. (see creation of PA counties website) http://www.mypennsylvaniagenealogy.com/pa_maps/pa_cf.htm If you look at PA in 1751 on the above site, the squiggly line between Philadelphia, Chester, and Lancaster Counties seems like it must be the Schuylkill River. And on a map of today, Maiden Creek Twp is EAST of the Schuylkill River, so back in 1742 it must have been part of Philadelphia Co. Yet the listing Art shared says Valentine took the Oath in Lancaster Co. Might we assume Valentine went to the Lancaster Co Court because it was closer than going to the Chester or Philadelphia County courts?
