The following might be of interest to those with early California ancestors. Cindy Kimes -------- Original Message -------- EVERTON'S FAMILY HISTORY NEWSLINE =========================================== Sponsored by: Everton's Genealogical Helper Helping you FIND YOUR ANCESTORS since 1947 http://www.everton.com/subscribe/ =========================================== Wednesday, 4 April 2001 Identifying California's Pioneers The California Pioneer Project is a cooperative venture spearheaded by the California GenWeb Project. The purpose is to identify each settler who arrived in, or was born in, the Golden State prior to 1880. Rather than simply compile a list of immigrants from the 1880 federal census of the state, the Project is formulating a list that links early California settlers with the genealogists who have ties to those men and women. Participants in the Project are asked to contact one of a handful of coordinators by email, each of which has responsibility for a specific range of the alphabet. To identify your early California relative you are asked for his or her full name, when and where he or she was born or settled in California, and your own contact information (email, etc.). Because the database is intended to help those with shared interests contact each other, the contact information is periodically polled by staffers to enssure that the email addresses are correct. Those that have lapsed are deleted from the list, making this a constantly helpful resource for those who are seeking their early California ancestry.
