I have been finding some info on KEIM families coming from or settling in Pittston, PA. From what I have found, The Bethlehem Steel Corp. was located there on Keim St. Someone mentioned that this is now known as Bethlehem, PA. I found the following family listed in the Pittston Gazette: Mrs Phoebe J. KEIM, abt 32, and widow of the late Jacob KEIM of Ransom Twp d/Wed, 30 June 1869 at her residence in West Pittstion. She leaves one child a boy about 8 yrs of age. Does anyone recognize the family, or have info on the town? Thanks for your help! Penny
Penny, Jacob and Phoebe KEIM and their son are buried in Milwaukee Cemetery in Milwaukee, Ransom Twp, Lackawanna Co., PA which is still largely farm area. The cemetery is very well kept. It is about 10 miles from Scranton, PA Here is what I found there in April. I went to that cemetery because that is where some of my husband's family is buried. I discovered these as an added bonus. The cemetery is about 5 miles from my house. Pittston is about 15 miles from me in the other direction. But you can travel the old back roads and get to Ransom from here in Taylor or from Pittston. This is an area of small towns. Ransom also used to be considered part of Old Forge, which is the next town to Taylor. Jacob Keim Died April 3, 1862 34 yrs 3 mos. 6 days there is an inscription in smaller letters below, but it is unreadable. It is basically bumps and few indentions now. below that it says J. A. Kiernsted, Scranton, PA (I'm not sure yet but I think that may be the stone maker) Phoebe J. Wife of Jacob Keim Died June 30, 1869 Aged 32 yrs 5 mos 16 days William H. Son of Jacob and Phoebe Keim Born Oct 17, 1859 Died Feb. 20, 1878 Mary A. Wife of John Keim Feb. 22, 1832 Nov 25, 1854 Henry B. Son of John and Mary A. Keim Died Oct 23, 1863 Aged 1 month 12 days These dates on Mary and Henry's stones are from newer stones than 1800's. So if Henry is Mary's child I believe he died in 1853. The stones look like they are from around 1930-50. I believe John remarried from these stones next. John Son of John and Anna M. Keim Died Oct 24, 1860 1 year 7 mos 3 days Sterling H. Son of John and Anna M. Keim Died Sept 3, 1860 Aged 12 days Anna M. Wife of John Keim Died Aug 23, 1860 Aged 31 yrs 7mos 3 days John Keim Born April 22, 1831 Died Nov 25, 1890 Jesse R. Hubler July 18, 1852-May 13, 1923 Wife Madge B. Hubler 1870-1957 Elizabeth F Keim Wife of Jesse R. Penny, while Jacob & Phoebe are not in my line, I still have family in Pittston PA. If there is a Keim St. there, they've never mentioned it. There may well be such a street in Bethlehem PA, but that's not near Pittston. My KEIMs moved to Pittston from Tunkhannock, seat of Wyoming Co.
