Jacob, son of Heinrich, was baptized 21 May 1775, Frederick Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick, MD. A second baptismal record for a Jacob Kimes is dated 21 May 1776, Federalsville, MD. Seems like this must be the same Jacob, but which date is correct? Also, JACOB KIMES, son of Heinrich, is said to have been living in Rockbridge Co, VA in July 1793. Your theory on the identity of "Old" Jacob sounds plausible, but the "Elias" name bothers me. I've not seen the name Elias used in Heinrich's line; only in Valentine Keim's line, and this is the Valentine of Maidencreek Twp, not Valentine, son of Heinrich! But, lack of the name Elias may not mean anything! So this is just more food for thought!

    3. Cindy, Does anyone have the Ancestors of Steven Keim ? There is also a Jacob Keim on the 1810 Census of Bourbon County, Kentucky. These queries are relative to my quest to find the family of Catherine Keim, born circa. 1759, married Jacob Ham in Pennsylvania or Virginia, circa. 1780. They moved to Bourbon County, Kentucky between 1792-1794. I find it interesting these two Keims' are in Bourbon County......in the same time period as Catherine. Could they be from the same Family ?? They lived in Upper Tulpehoken Twp and attended the Zion Blue Mountain Church. I'm pretty sure they were reformed. Rev. Herman likely had several charges from around this area. Mary Alice

    3. Hi Cindy: I should have put "My Keim-Susan/Susanna Keim" in my heading. I was half-asleep when I put in the title. I saw a post a while back about Susan and her parents living in Dauphin County. I'm not sure if I connect to Johannes Keim the immigrant ancestor. Still need to do more researching. 3. Meigs County, Ohio # 4 I was not able to prove where "Old" Jacob belonged on the family tree. I still want to believe he was the Jacob mentioned in Heinrich’s will, (Henry, died 1802 in Bath Co. Va.), and an older brother to Abraham (B.1782). Jacob must have moved to Meigs Co. around 1810 or before. Abraham followed around 1811. Until more information is found I will assume he died in the middle 1830’s and is buried in an unmarked grave in Chester Cemetery. He may have lived for a while in Rockbridge, Co. VA. Jacob Kime (s) B. July 16,1772 in Virginia, Still alive in 1833. Margaret ? Reasonably sure their sons were: William, Samuel, Thomas, and John. Elias and Henry could be Jacob or William’s sons. Although most of this is speculation, hopefully it will be helpful clues for further research. Don

    3. Meigs County, Ohio #3 I have seen discussions about Chester Cemetery. I arranged to meet the secretary of the township board at the cemetery. She brought all the plat books, deeds, and ect. Unfortunately the earliest records are mostly missing. There is a stone inscribed KIMES, nothing more. It is about 2 ½’ x 3 ½’ there is no record as to is buried there. It could be one person, such as "Old" Jacob or it could be a family marker. There has been discussion of four unmarked graves. About 40-50 feet from the old stone are four 6"x 6" markers diagonally inscribed KIMES. They form a rectangle about 10’x15’. I was informed they are plot boundary markers. Again there is no record as to whom or how many are buried there. There is a stone inscribed Jacob, no dates. This Jacob served in the civil war and supposable marched in the G.A.R. parade in Washington in 1865. This is from a different time era than "Old" Jacob. There are other Kimes, but from later generations, both here in Chester and other cemeteries around the county. Some I personally checked but mostly I relied on records in the Meigs County Library and the Meigs Co. Historical Society. Both are staffed by very friendly and helpful personal.

In testimony whereof, we have hereunto set our names at Chester, Meigs County this 24th day of June in the year of our Lord 1826. Isaac Foster, Thomas McGrath, Ira Baker, William Torrence, Joel Hull, Albert Torrence, Lawrence Jencks, Peter Grow, Jacob Kimes, Thomas Kimes, Henry Kimes, Samuel Kimes, George Saunders, Charles Gardiner, Randal Stivers, Nail Nye, Jasper Branch, John C. Bestow, Aaron Torrence, Theodore Nye, J. L. Hubbard, Phineas C. Robinson, L. Hull, Lyman Stedman, Daniel Lott, Fines Robinson. I do hereby do certify the above to be a true copy from the original, Dec.1, 1826. (End) I am sorry to say I could not find any mention of George Washington Kimes, except where he married Emily Williams on Sept. 23, 1839. I really wanted to pin him down but failed. He may have been "Old" Jacob’s son or he may have been Williams. It may be productive to search some archive in Columbus or in Ripley, West Virginia the county seat of Jackson Co. where he lived so long.

    3. Meigs County, Ohio #1 I recently visited Meigs County, Ohio for a couple of days. My main focus was on "Old" Jacob listed in the 1820 and 1830 census. I found a Jacob on the tax list in Athens Co. in 1810. I am told part of Athens Co. became part of Meigs Co. Then in 1816 a Jacob is listed on the tax roles of Meigs Co. This may be "Old" Jacob. Hardesty: Meigs Co. Ohio, " An Incident in Pioneer Life" (copy in Kiem-L archives) tells a story of a Jacob and Indian problems. Conferring with other people on this the best guess is it happened in the early 18-teens. Jacob and his wife sold land in 1822. I never found when they bought it, maybe they homesteaded it or as part of a land grant. On May 10, 1822 in Orange Township, Meigs Co. Margaret Kimes, Thomas Kimes, and Samuel Kimes were indited for assaulting one Lydia Hunter. "And Jacob Kimes came here in open court" and posted a $250.00 bond for "Margaret Kimes wife of said Jacob Kimes." Each of the boys bonds was set at $125. This proves Margaret was Jacob’s wife and Thomas and Samuel as probably their sons. I don’t know what happened to Samuel but in Nov., 1822, Margaret and Thomas were found guilty and "imprisoned" in the county jail for 24 hours and to "remain in confinement until fine and costs are secured." " The costs herein expended are Twenty Eight dollars & seventy five cents. To Wit: costs in Justice’s Court 4.39, Docket Fee 5.00, Jury Fee 6.25, Clerk 5.51, Sheriff 2.76, Witness 4.50, $ 28.75". (Don’t try adding this) I found mention of some "Dental Equipment" made by a blacksmith Jacob Kimes of Chester of exceptionally high quality and workmanship. There are seven voting records from 1830 to 1832 in Chester Twn, Meigs Co. listing Jacob, John, William, and Thomas. I "speculate" these are "Old" Jacob and three of his sons. Probably none were born in Meigs Co. A while back there was discussion about a John (B.1809), he would have been 21 in 1830 and old enough to vote. Could be the same John.

    3. Carol Berry shared this: ------------------------- Subject: Past & Present Montgomery Co., 1904 Samuel A. Kime, who has been active in community affairs and is the supporter of many movements for the general good, so that he is numbered among the valued citizens of Montgomery county (IL), was born in Litchfield township on the 2d of November, 1857. His father, Joshua Kime, was a native of North Carolina, and in early manhood removed from that state to Illinois, settling in Montgomery county. He married Miss Cornelia Wagner, and took up his abode in Hillsboro township about 1861. There he rented a farm for two years, and on the expiration of that period purchased the farm which is now occupied by George Ferguson, comprising eighty acres of land. To the further development and cultivation of this place he devoted his energies until his death, and was one of the enterprising agriculturists of his community--a man very reliable in business affairs. He died in October, 1889, when but sixty-seven years of age, his birth having occurred in 1822. His wife survived him for two years and departed this life in 1891, when fifty-four years of age. Both were members of the Lutheran church and were people of the highest respectability, enjoying the confidence and warm regard of all with whom they were associated. They had two children, the daughter being Mary F., now the wife of George L. Ferguson. Samuel A. Kime, the son and the elder child, acquired a common school education and was trained to habits of industry and economy upon the old homestead. When he had arrived at years of maturity he took charge of the farm, which he operated on shares, and there remained until his mother's death. He was married on the 25th of February, 1891, to Miss Mary Johnson and they have two children: Mary I. and Henry Frederick. Mr. Kime owns altogether one hundred and four acres of land and his property is valuable. His house stands on section 27, Hillsboro township, about one mile west and four and a half miles south of the city of Hillsboro. There he carries on general farming. A glance at his place indicates to the passerby that the owner is a man of enterprise and thrift, careful in his work and practical in his methods. His fellow townsmen have called him to public office and for two years he served as justice of the peace, while for nine years he has been a school director. In politics he is a Republican; fraternally is connected with the Modern Woodmen of America; and religiously with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which his wife is also a member. ____________________ Carol, thanks for sharing this. Some of our KIMEs will recognize these folks as ancestors of our friend, Samuel E. Kime, who just passed away in September.
