    1. [KEIM] Re: John's "turner" tools
    2. Cindy
    3. In reference to Johannes Keim, who immigrated from Germany to Oley, PA, there has been a question on WHO inherited his wood working tools, and when they received them, before or after Johannes's death. I remembered the inventory of John's estate rec'd along with a copy of his will so pulled it out to see if there was mention of the wood working tools. Typing this as spelled in John's will, one section states: "When my Wife Maria Elisabeth My children brought to their Age untill the Youngest of all the Children is in age. then She and My other Executor shall praise all My Whole Estate. Creatures, Houshold goods in ____ ____ My Mouveables Land Except the Turner Tools shall not be praised. My Wife shall have the Power to give the same to Who she thincks proper of My Children." This sounds like John was saying Maria Elisabeth was to give his turner tools to whomever she thought should receive them. Is this how the rest of you read the last sentence directly above? AND, some will wonder if the "tools" were listed in the Inventory of December 1753? "Hand Tools" were listed, but whether these were the specific "turner" tools John referred to in his will or other tools of some sort is unknown. So who DID receive the "turner" tools? Some descendants claim John's first-born son, Johannes, rec'd the "tools" and others say Stephen, the second-born son. Who knows more?

Snip: Cindy wrote: Oh, the family of Jacob and Sarah (Hicks) KIMES was in Clinton county, IA when the 1870 census was taken. But they moved to Johnson Co before 1880. Perhaps one of their descendants had a Jacob born in OH!!!!! They lived in Meigs Co for a number of years before moving west. This isn't my branch so those subscribers that have researched this line will know specific dates. How about it Mitzie, Don, and Richard? My Jacob and Sarah (Hicks) Kimes and all their family, except one married daughter, left Clinton Co., IA. in late 1870 or early 1871 and moved to Nebraska. I have no further information on Clinton Co. I called an acquaintance in Clinton Co. that had helped me a couple of years ago but she couldn't find your Jacob Kime. She didn't have the 1920 census but did have the one from 1910. Apparently she has newspaper clippings and a extensive genealogy filing system, still no Jacob in your time frame. "Shot in the dark" because they moved from Ohio to Clinton Co., Iowa, maybe they were from the same family group. I would try looking in the 1870 Meigs CO., Ohio census for a 5 year old Jacob or in the 1880 for a 15 year old. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Keep trying. Don
