Pa Query Forum URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Venango/2689 Surname: Kimes, Golden ------------------------- I am looking for information on my Grampa's family. They were from Venango County [PA]. My Grampa's name was Daniel L. Kimes, Born Sept. 11th 1909. And passed away Dec. 13th, 1997 in Kane, Pa. I would like to find out the correct spellings of his parents names (their last names) and any information on their families! His Father's name was George L. Kimes-(Not sure of the correct spelling, Some changed the spelling). And Ida L. Golden-(or Gould, Gold- We're not sure of her exact last name). Thank you. Rose (Kimes) Lehman <scraper@penn.com> ------------------------- Following obituary posted to this list in 1997: "Daniel Kimes, 88, . . . died Saturday (Dec. 13, 1997) at his residence. He was born Sept 11, 1909 in Franklin, the son of George and Ida (Golden) Kimes. On November 22, 1948, in Marienville, he married Delilah Cowan, who survives." "He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis Kimes; three brothers, Harry, Bill and Kenneth Kimes; seven sisters, Emma Patterson, Elvie DeWolfe, Mary Oakes, Bertha Mars, Maude Sayers, Clara Buchalz, Liz Brown; and a step-grandson, Chad Warring" He was survived by two sons and three daughters, some of whom live in Kane. ------------------------- Also to note: According to the S.S. Death Index, there's a SADIE KIMES who was living in Oil City, Venango Co, PA right before she died. She was born 13 Feb 1877 and died 15 Apr 1967. Might be worthwhile to try finding an obituary on her to see if she's related to the aforementioned KIMESes of that area.
There is a John M. Keim buried in Wayne Co, OH. The only John Keim I know that died in 1919 was the one that was the son of Christian KEIM and Elizabeth Boyer. Anyone know who this one is? Mitizie, I didn't know your Email address so will send this to you via Keim-L While doing some research in Clinton Co., Iowa an acquaintance there sent me a newspaper article about Scott. I will type it as written. "Scott Kimes, of New Virginia, IA., recently paid Wheatland a visit after an absence of sixty-nine years, and found a few who still remembered him and his family. Now 81 years old, Mr. Kimes visited the farm of his boyhood days, now owned by Mrs. Henry Fox. The farm was originally owned by his parents, Jacob Kimes and his wife Sarah Hicks Kimes, daughter of the late Capt. Hicks, who owned much land southwest of Wheatland in the early days. Later this farm was sold to Louis Fox, SR., and then to his son, Henry Fox, both of whom are now deceased." ( At this point some one has written 10-16-40 ) "Mr. Kimes recognized a few familiar things about the old place, and made the trip especially to visit once more the last resting place of a younger brother and a sister's daughter, who were buried in a private lot on the farm. The Fox family have always cared for the burial lot and the monuments that mark the graves were permanently sealed in cement by Henry Fox before his death. Mr. Kimes visited with Mrs. Henry Fox and with Louis Fox who now owns the farm known by Mr. Kimes as the Guffey place. He also found Frank Witte who knew the Kimes family well and could tell him about other old settlers long since gone." Comments: There is some confusion in it that I would like to correct if possible. It was supposable written on Oct.16,1940. and says he is 81. In 1940 Scott would have been 95. All my records show Scott born in 1845 and died on June 12,1918. at 73. However it states he had been gone for 69 years, that figures out to 1871, exactly when they left Clinton Co. It says Scott lived in New Virginia, Iowa. I know Jacob and Sarah, their sons Charles and William, and daughter Nancy (Hulda) all moved to Nebraska in 1871 and along with daughter Mary (Molly) are all buried in New Virginia, Iowa but I didn't think Scott ever lived there. In 1880 census Scott was in Nebraska. As I am sure you know Scott's wife Malinda's maiden name was Guffy and she was born in Clinton Co. Any clarification will be appreciated. Don
