    1. [KEIM] Searching OUR list archives
    2. Cindy
    3. An easy way to search our list archives, is to use the link: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/keim but, the above index only goes back to April 1999; our list started in 1997. So for the older messages, you still have to go to http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl then type in the "name" of our list, KEIM. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Other related archives you may want to check: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/kime and http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/kimes The latter list is very new; evidently only three posts! I believe these last two lists were created by RootsWeb. Unknown who administers them.

    2. Cindy
    3. Source: KIMES-L@rootsweb.com ===================================================================== Are there any ancestors out there of a John "Jack" Francis KIMES who I believe lived in either Pearsonia, OK, or Newton Co., MO c. 1893-1919? He married Eulalie KAHLER in 1919, and died the same year of a gunshot wound. Eulalie saved a photo album of his, and other personal records which I would like to give to someone who can prove a relationship. Thank you. 1. [KEIM] Re: Charles R. Kime's mother
    2. Cindy
    3. We've seen that frequently a widowed elderly parent moves in with one of their children. Just to see if such was the case with Charles Kime and his mother, I input the known data in the search form on the CA Death Records site, and found a match: LILLIE KIME, whose father's last name was BARTLEY; mother's last name, CASE. She was born 08/23/1868 in IOWA; died 02/02/1940 in Los Angeles Co, CA. Appears this would be Charles's mother! Now, what KIME married a Lillie Bartley, maybe in Iowa or Nebraska?

    3. Following query appeared in Jun 2000: > > Does anyone connect to a Charles Raymond Kime, b: November 24, 1891 in > NE, who married Mary Katherine Marty? > Information from another source listed: Charles Raymond Kime b: November 24, 1891 d: April 08, 1945 in Glendale, CA _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Thanks to the CA Death Records site! http://vitals.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi According to whoever provided the information on his death certificate, this site lists he was born 11/24/1893, in Nebraska. The birth year is different than above, but the death date is the same. And, we learn that Charles R. Kime's mother's maiden name was BARTLEY. Now does anyone know where Charles R. Kime fits?

    1. [KEIM] Finding unusual places
    2. Cindy
    3. Sometimes we can't locate these out-of-the-way places/features such as "Little Stinking Quarter" (a creek) that Bill was looking for. A site that may help in locating a multitude of various type places is the "Geographic Names Information System" site. For those that aren't familiar with this site, you'll find it at: http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html This site allows one to locate a variety of different features, etc., then links you to appropriate maps for what you ask for. The maps are my favorite part because once the place is located, you can zoom in several times to get closeups of the place! For example, at the site I input: Little Stinking Quarter for Feature Name North Carolina for State or Territory Name Stream for Feature Type Clicked on Send Query. Well, there was no match for Little Stinking Quarter, so I changed to Stinking Quarter Creek for Feature Name. There was one hit and it listed variant names for the creek. Next to view the maps of the creek, click on "Show Feature Location." You get two maps.... one locates the feature in the U.S. The other map lets you zoom in on the feature. Try playing with this site to see what you can discover.... look for something you've never been able to find.... like a cemetery or such! Have fun!

You also could try contacting someone in that area.... normally long-time residents of these locales know where or how the places got their name! And, it seems one of our subscribers mentioned they lived somewhere around there.

    1. [KEIM] From Johannes Keim m. Elizabeth Kloess to Lillie Daisy Keim m. Herbert E. Gradwohl
    2. Please see prior posting of the obit for Owen Milton Keim (1848- 1914). In the obit a surviving sister is Mrs. Jacob Frankenfield. In prior postings (see 5/12/98 & 5/16/00 archives) Mrs. Frankenfield was identified as Christianna Keim (1845-1922). Christianna is again verified as the correct sister to Owen as her parents are know to be Andrew Keim and Elizabeth Brown/Braun; listed in Owen's obit as his parents. Christianna & Owen's line goes back to Johannes(1) Keim (b. Germany) m. Maria: had a son, Johannes(2) Keim (1754-1815) m. Elizabeth Kloess (Penny has her last name as Kles)(1756-1837), who had a son Jacob (1789-1838) m. Christianna Weber (1794-1871); who were the parents of Andrew. Thanks to Penny for the adt'l sibs to Jacob. Who was Owen's sister who m. George Hartman? Does anyone have info. on Owen's brother, A(ndrew?) Clayton Keim? I am looking for adt'l clues as to which of Owen's daugthers are the Mrs.Radman,Crosland & Jacoby. Lillie Daisy m. Herbert E. Gradwohl (my line). Jennie m. ? Hoffman. To my knowledge Lulu and Birdie never married. Which leaves Elsie M. (ca.1884), Mabel B.(ca.1886), & unnamed female (a 7th daughter). Penny, I " suspect" Johannes(1) had adt'l sons and one of them started the Jacob Milton Keim line. Anyone else on list with a "Milton" in their line? Thanks to all of you for sharing! You have saved me years, if not decades, of sleuthing. JR Maxwell

    3. Does anyone on the List know of any information that connects Philip Kime to Kimeville? I have always assumed that is where his property was located but I have never seen any documentation of this. The Land Grant for 50 acres, which he obtained from the state of North Carolina in 1789, is documented in Book 5 page 136 and 137 of the Salisbury District Superior Court Minutes. The minutes of this court action describe the property in terms of distance and direction from various relative landmarks such as trees, stones etc and states that it is on the waters of Little Stinking Quarter.

    1. [KEIM] Re: Johannes KEIM m. Elizabeth KLES?
    2. Some time ago in the archives I found a query from Angie and Eric Dunn (subscribers at the time) but I have lost their address. It concerned the following family: 1. Johannes Keim b. 20 Jul 1754 Germany d. 9 Aug 1815 +Elizabeth Kles b. 4 May 1756 Bethlehem, Northampton Co., PA d. 10 Apr 1837 Bethlehem They had the following three children: 2. Mathaus Keim b 21 Nov 1785 2. Elizabeth Keim b. 13 Jul 1787 2. Wilhelm Heinrich Keim b. 3 Feb 1792 (resident of Easton, PA) I'd like to figure out who these folks are, but I'm not quite sure how to proceed. I am hoping the Dunn's are still subscribing and can help me out. Or does anyone else recognize this Johannes immigrant? (Eventually, I'm still trying to locate Jacob Milton KEIM b. 1853/1858 in that area.) Thanks for your help! Penny
