    1. [KEIM] Identifying California's Pioneers
    2. Cindy
    3. The following might be of interest to those with early California ancestors. Cindy Kimes -------- Original Message -------- EVERTON'S FAMILY HISTORY NEWSLINE =========================================== Sponsored by: Everton's Genealogical Helper Helping you FIND YOUR ANCESTORS since 1947 http://www.everton.com/subscribe/ =========================================== Wednesday, 4 April 2001 Identifying California's Pioneers The California Pioneer Project is a cooperative venture spearheaded by the California GenWeb Project. The purpose is to identify each settler who arrived in, or was born in, the Golden State prior to 1880. Rather than simply compile a list of immigrants from the 1880 federal census of the state, the Project is formulating a list that links early California settlers with the genealogists who have ties to those men and women. Participants in the Project are asked to contact one of a handful of coordinators by email, each of which has responsibility for a specific range of the alphabet. To identify your early California relative you are asked for his or her full name, when and where he or she was born or settled in California, and your own contact information (email, etc.). Because the database is intended to help those with shared interests contact each other, the contact information is periodically polled by staffers to enssure that the email addresses are correct. Those that have lapsed are deleted from the list, making this a constantly helpful resource for those who are seeking their early California ancestry. Resources: California Pioneers Project http://www.cagenweb.com/cpl/ Genealogy: California http://www.everton.com/reference/usa/ca.htm Imagine! A single CD-ROM reference to marriages in western states. 3. Back in the early 1970s I visited Ireland and crossed the border to see the Beleek parian china works. While we waited for the tourguide, I was standing next to the timeclock and, snoop that I am, I read the names on the cards. There was a KEIM!! Of course I asked to meet him. He wasn't on site - he was the gardener. Considering the meaning of the name, I thought that was quite a propos. Eileen Keim Cindy wrote: > The Miami Co. 3. >From John A. Graham's History of Peru and Miami County: This book discusses the farmers that settled in Perry Township in Miami Co. and states "among those who came in 1839 and 1840 were the Keims, Daniel, Benjamin and David." We heard about Benjamin Keim as an early Wabash Co, IN settler in the selection posted to this list on 11 Mar 2001. In the section on Butler Twp in Miami Co, we read "soon after 1841, the township began to be rapidly settled." Samuel Keim is listed as one of earlier settlers. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ These Keims - Samuel, Daniel, Benjamin, and David, were undoubtedly Benjamin (b. 20 December 1804) who married Mary Dieffenbacher; Daniel (b. 14 April 1797) who married Susanna Ulsh, and David (b. 15 September 1802) who married Hannah E. Ulsh. Samuel must be the Samuel that married Mary Derck as both are buried in the Chili Cemetery, Miami Co, IN. Anyone connect?
