Posted to the Kime Family Genealogy Forum at http://genforum.genealogy.com/kime/ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I am no relation but came across this article published in my local paper here in Coloma, MI. It was submitted by the Hartford Public Library adn was taken from microfilm copies of the Harford Day Spring archives. 60 Years Ago - May 30th, 1941 Neil Kime of Kansas City, MO. visited his sister, Mrs. George Olds Jr., and other local relatives on Sunday and Monday. Mr Kime, and executive at the national headquarters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, was en route home after a business trip to Detroit. He is a former Hartford boy and son of the late George W. Kime, for many years the sexton of the Hartford cemeteries. While here Mr. Kime paid a visit to the Fred Allen home and the familiar boyhood scenes along the Paw Paw River which he and Henry Allen indulged in some reminiscent bantering in the "Around Our Town" column in this newspaper. ____________________ The following information was shared by one of our subscribers long ago: Descendants of George W. Henry KIME who married Hannah RUDOLPH were in Orange Co., NC in the 1790 Census and found in Indiana in 1820. He was first found with property transfers in Clark Co., IN abt 1814. It could have been him. [ His son, Henry (Jr) was born in 1789. His daughter, Eleanor, was born in 1800 in "NC" according to later information.] Diana <ddavis@logicsouth.com> <ddavis59@sc.rr.com> Website: http://www.my-ged.com/davis/
Our branch of the KIMES had a Daniel, b. 1828 in PA. Last trace of him is a marriage record in Kosciusko Co, IN on 17 January 1851. I've been searching all known web sites for mention of our Daniel..... so far, no luck! BUT, ran across one new reference this morning on a Daniel. A Daniel Kimes is listed as one of two males backing an administrator of an estate. Date and location: 4 October 1834 at Bartholomew Co, Indiana. We previously discussed a Daniel in Bartholomew Co..... WHOSE DANIEL IS THIS????? See --> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~damon/floyd/floyd003.htm

I didn't receive any replies. My records do not use the spelling Keim just Kimes. I have always held some reservations about this "Letter". Abraham (sr) and Nancy along with Abraham (jr) moved from Bath Co. VA. to Meigs Co. Ohio about 1811. My Thoughts; Is this the first time he has written in 25 years? Does he have to explain his wife's name, they married in Bath Co. VA. the girls were probably there. His daughter Mary Ann died two and half years earlier. Is he just now telling them about their half sister's death? Then he has to explain that Abraham (jr) is " your own brother". The "letter" is written in a style one might write to a 5-6 year old child. Sarah would have been 29 years old. Until I find a lot more information about this "letter" I'll remain skeptical that it is authentic. Don Kimes

Thanks for the information on Costner or Cortner. However, based on information in the Guilford County Historical Map prepared by Fred Hughes this property does not appear to be in Kimeville. The land purchased by George Cortner in 1770 from Thomas Low was actually in Low's Town. Low had purchased property from McCulloh on "The Trading Path" in Orange County in 1760 before Guilford County was formed. In 1769 he recorded a plot for a town on this tract. In 1770 Low sold at least 17 lots from this town, 3/4 acres each. George Cortner purchased 3 of these lots or 2.25 ac. Kimesville is about 15,000 feet to the South South East. -----Original Message----- From: Paul B. Someone ask: > Did Jacob marry Leodicea and then divorce her? There is a later marriage > in Meigs Co., OH, between a Leodicea Kimes and an Elias Congrove on 7 Jan > 1841. Jacob Kimes married Sarah Hicks 1841 in Virginia, later West Virginia. > Cindy Wrote: I believe that is the concensus. Perhaps someone from this line knows details. Jacob and Lodicia On July 5, 1836 Jacob Kimes and Lodicia Coleman were married by Elizah Hews Fields in Meigs Co., Ohio. This is from Meigs Co. records. I never found a divorce record. Lodicia Kimes married an Elias Congrove on Jan. 7, 1841. It is interesting to note they married on Jacob's birthday. Was this coincidence or spite? Seem to me a stretch to be a coincidence. Six weeks later Jacob and Sarah Hicks went across the Ohio River to Ravenswood, Jackson Co., [West] Virginia and were married on Feb. 21, 1841. Jackson Co. records. The Colemans and Kimes' had pioneered the area five or six years before young Jacob was born. Undoubtedly Jacob and Lodicia grew up as neighbors. In 1836 you didn't travel far to find a spouse. I couldn't find them in the 1840 U.S. census. Perhaps they had already divorced and Jacob was back living with his folks Abraham and Nancy. The 1840 census shows two males in the household the right ages for Jacob and his brother John. It also shows a male between the ages of 10-15 years. The age is to old to be Jacobs and Lodicia's son. I couldn't identify him. In 1850 Meigs Co. census Lodicia and Elias had Alexander 7, Sophia 3, and Samuel 2, Congrove. There were no stepchildren named Kimes. This is from my files. I notice a difference in spelling of Lodicia (Leodicea). Meigs County marriage records uses Lodicia, but I am open to change. Don Kimes
