Remember when Virgene posted some info back in 1998 from a William KIME's will? In that email it listed probable descendants of a John Kime. Virgene later added this data: JOHN B. KIME b. 13 Oct 1835 in Ohio, d. 15 Dec 1864 in Seneca Co., Ohio m. CATHERINE CULBERTSON on 26 Aug 1858 John & Catherine's children were: SENOBY [GORISS] KIME [DELANCY] LESTOR KIME [DEVILLY] E. KIME Virgene stated she had a bit of trouble deciphering the children's names and the above were her "best guesses!" Well, there's quite a bit of info at http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?George,Kime,Michigan::bricker::82.html (message # 82 of the Bricker Family Genealogy Forum on GENFORUM); mentions two of the children - DeLancy L Kime and DeVillo E Kime. With the unusual given names, this MUST be the same family! Take a look! NOTE: You may need to paste the URL together.... it is a long one!!!!
Pat sent this URL and note: >From the PA State Archives - ARIAS, the Archives Records Information Access System Click here: http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us/ Lots of Kimes, Keims, and Kime men listed here.

Diane, You had forwarded the following information, in part: Source: PACKARD-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [PACKARD] Re: ruby b. keim packard born oct. 22 1892-nov 21 1976 > > Have you got much info on the Packards, such as when they came to America and things like that. The reason I am asking, is because according to my mother. Mom is a Pack>> The posting referred to here and copied to this list originated from a reply I made to the PACKARD board. This story of PACK and SC is something that I have never heard before. The following is what I have confirmed through various sources, ie: census, SS5's, and death certificates. Ruby Bell KEIM is my great aunt. 1. Leroy Alden Packard - 80. Son of Fred Alden Packard - 211 & Elizabeth Jane Slack - 212. Born 9 Aug 1890 in Brockton, Mass. Died 20 May 1965 in 1251 Pembroke Rd, Bethlehem, Pa.. Buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Bethlehem, Pa. He married Ruby Bell Keim - 5, daughter of Jacob Milton Keim - 1 & Alice Jane Bartlett/ - 2, Before 1913. Born 22 Oct 1892 in Bethlehem, Pa. Died 24 Nov 1976 in Gracedale, Northampton County Home, Beth., Pa.. Buried 27 Nov 1976 in Memorial Park Cemetery, Bethlehem, Pa. Religion Advent Moravian Church. They had 9 children, 8 boys and 1 girl. Many are deceased, but there are still some living. Fred Alden Packard is descended through Levi Packard of Plymouth Co., MA. He was a bootmaker. The original Packard of this line was Samuel Packard, whom arrived on the ship "Diligent" in 1638. I was able to confirm this information. I am still trying to take Jacob and Alice back one more generation. Alice BARTLETT was the daughter of Aaron BARTLETT and Jane BENNER (Presumably of Northampton Co.). Someday, my breakthrough will come. Patiently searching, Penny

The Michigan 1870 Census is online at http://envoy.libofmich.lib.mi.us/1870_census/ There is an index and the actual microfilm pages are there to download!
Birth and death dates are vital to genealogy and information available online is quite helpful to nearby researchers as well as those living states away. Lately I've happened upon a couple sites I wish I'd known about months back; it would have saved hours of research in the library! Unfortunately these helpful sites often remain unknown for months because they're not publicized. It certainly would be helpful to know WHERE to look for these sites? As more and more web sites become available, it is exceedingly important for ALL of us to share our "finds" with others. With that thought in mind, following are a couple helpful locations I've found with obituaries and/or info related to birth and death dates: Elkhart Public Library [Elkhart Co, IN] http://www.elkhart.lib.in.us/elkhart.hp/html/obit_db.html Saint Joseph County Public Library [South Bend, IN] http://sjcpl.lib.in.us/homepage/LocalHist/Necrology.html Fulton County Public Library [Rochester, IN] http://www.fulco.lib.in.us/fc_genealogy.htm Kosciusko County, Indiana - Obituaries http://www.rootsweb.com/~inkosciu/obituaries.html Cindy Kimes Researching ancestors in northern Indiana

Mom is a Pack > She said that when the Packards first came to America that they landed in South Carolina, She said that King George III had a son named Packard, and when this son landed in SC, King George gave him some land on which to settle. At that time it was know as Packsville, or Packardsville, I have not been able to find either of these places on the SC map. I don't know if they had changed the name or what. Mom doesn't know what the Packards man's name was, but on down the line some of the Packards dropped part of the name and just became Pack's. Mom's Family line came from SC. Alex took his children and moved from Polk Co. NC, to Madison County NC in the part of Madison that they called Foster Creek this was in 1867. But the earliest that we know about is in 1867 Alex (Alexander) Pack DOB about 1835 DOD about 1910 at age 75 he married a Waldrop/Waltrop, We think that her first name may have been Sophronia, she died in the winter of abt. 1866 but not sure about that. Alex Pack had ! > four children, named Lisa DOB abt. 1854, Andy ( could have been shortened for Andrew) DOB abt. 1856, the Sara DOB about 1858 and Martin VanBuren Pack DOB about 1862. Martin is my great grandfather. Martin marred Mary Jane Lewis ( the daughter of Jim Lewis and Polly Shelton, Shelton could have been her married name because she was a widow and had three children, Jim adopted Polly's children and then they had four of their own. > Mary Jane Lewis DOB abt. 1866 in Madison Co. NC the only other siblings that I know of were a sister named Sarah and a sister named Harriet. Harriet married a Bradley. > Martin and Mary Jane Lewis Pack's children were, Walter Grey DOB June 9, 1886 DOD Dec. 16, 1955 ( my grandfather), Henry, Carl, Frank, Charlie ( could have been Charles), Bill (?William) Oscar, Mollie, Fronie (?Sophronia), Hassie, and Cora. They had some half brothers and a sister, Glen, Alex (Alexander) Wayne, and Roxie Pack, Roxie is still living but she doesn't know much about the Pack Family, except her brothers and sisters, Roxie said that when her mom married Martin that their last names were Hardin/Harding but that they went by the name Pack after the marriage. Mary Jane's sister Harriet married a Bradley and in the mid 1950's, John Parris, the writer of Mountain Lore that was publised in the Asheville Citizen Times, interview Harriett about the big earthquake that hit Charleston, SC on August 31, 1886. Harriet was last known living in the community called Beach, located at the head of Reems Creek in North Eastern Buncombe County, in NC. > Walter Grey Pack, they called him Grey, until he went into the army then they either called him Walt, or Walter. Walter married Jemima Lovenia Fender, daughter of Levi Vernon Pack and I think her name was Eliza Jane Blakenship, I am not sure about that I can't find it in my notes. Anyway Walter Pack and Jemima Fender ( everyone called here Aunt Mime) were married in October of 1919. Walter Moved his new wife to a place in Tenn, where he was working, called Mascot. After a while they moved back to Marshall, NC. Later moved to McDowell County, NC in the Nebo area. Their children included, not in any specific order, Carl, Fred, Leonard, Floyd (who is now deceased), Selma, Nora, Zora Jane, Ethel and my mom Florence Pack Hensley. Mom married Rev. Ophard David Hensley, in April 1953. All of mom's brothers and sisters are still living except for Floyd, he was the baby of the family and the first one to die, with heart failure. > > Any way I was just wondering if you had heard anything about some of the Packard's dropping part of their name to Pack. Russell Kime <russkime@worldnet.att.net> sent the following info several weeks ago. With his permission, I'm forwarding this to the KEIM list.... thought some of you might find this quite interesting! Cindy Kimes _________________________ In the book "Oley Valley Heritage" by Phillip Pendleton I found 3 photos of the Schneider Cemetery (pp 109-111) in which my brother Bill located the grave of Johannes Keim last year. Of particular interest to me is one which shows the gravestones of Johannes Schneider (1687-1743) and his wife Katarina (1688-1774) who had to be the parents of John Henry Schneider, husband of Katarina Keim who was the eldest child of Johannes Keim, and the first Keim child to be born in the new country. And this, I think, explains why Johannes was buried here rather than on his original homestead some four or five miles away. This cemetery is reputed to be the oldest in Berks county and was recently somewhat restored by groups in Berks county who are dedicated to the restoration of colonial period cemeteries. By the time Johannes died in 1753 the children from his first marriage had dispersed as indicated in his will of 1747, in which he says: "All my children from my first wife leave me as soon as them comes to their age, saying to me, 'Father, what you have, you have occasion for, your own self. We will go and see to get our living for our own self'." Three of these six children married into well-established Oley families, one becoming a prosperous storekeeper in Reading; the other three moved away. (page 137, Oley Valley Heritage) Russ P. S. Oley Valley Heritage, The Colonial Years: 1700-1775 (232 pages) was published in 1994 by the Oley Valley Heritage Association and is available from the Reading Historical Society for about $40. It is a thorough history of all details of the Oley Valley during that period, and there are many references to the Keim family. In fact, the jacket picture is of the Jacob Keim house (1753) and inside jacket picture is of the DeTurk house (1767). Bertha DeTurk was Johannes' first wife, and I presume that her family came shortly after she and Johannes emigrated to America, lured by Johannes's description of the area.
