In the 1810 Census in the household of John KIMES of Franklin township, there are 4 males 0-10 years of age and 4 males 10-16 years of age. We can possibly identify three of these 10-16 year-old males as John's sons Samuel (baptismal record), John Jr (see previous e-mail), and Henry (who is listed in the 1820 Census in Franklin township), leaving one son of 10-16yrs unaccounted for. Various on-line postings state that the George KIME who married Mary LOUER was born in Adams County, PA in 1796. Given the birth date and location, he *might* be the 4th son of John KIME Sr. Also - there appears to be a connection between the KIME and LOUER/ LOWER families in Franklin & Butler townships in that two of Peter KIME's children (the Peter KIME who married Sarah HAUDESHELL) are living with LOWER families in the 1850 Census. But this is all highly conjectural on my part!!! PS. Samuel KIME/KYMES might have been the first husband of Barbara, and the father of John KIME of Menallen township. Reasoning: Samuel KEIM is listed as a sponser at the baptism of Samuel KEIM, son of John and Elizabeth KEIM, in 1793. And an on-line posting states that (a) Samuel KYMES was living in Menallen township by 1802 and (b) his wife's name was Barbara. If so, Samuel KYMES might be a brother of John KIME Sr. --- Karen Arp [email protected]

    1. Three John Keim/Kimes in Adams County PA
    2. Karen Arp
    3. I am attempting to dis-entangle the three John KEIM/KIME/KIMES that lived in Adams County, Pennsylvania in the early 1800s. Here is what I have so far. Additions/corrections welcome! -------- (1) John KIME of Franklin township. This John KIME shows up in the 1810 through 1840 Census records of Adams County, PA. In the later Census records he is listed as 'John KIME Sr'. Per the Census records, he was born between 1760 and 1770. This is probably the John KIME who is buried in Flohrs Lutheran Cemetery, McKightstown, Adams County, PA. Listed birth and death dates from the cemetery records show that he was born on 13 Dec 1762 and died on 11 Oct 1841. The wife of John KIME (1) was named Elizabeth per church baptism records. Elizabeth died on 16 Dec 1852, aged 77 years and 9 months per newspaper obit. POSSIBLE!!! children of John (1) and Elizabeth KIME: Samuel (baptism record in 1793); John Jr (see below); Henrich/Henry (married Betsy STEINOVER in about 1816); Jacob (married Sarah KENTRELL on 3 Apr 1822); Susanna (married Adolph KLOEPPEL/KLOEPPER on 24 Nov 1833); George (married Mary LOUER in about 1820); Abraham (baptism record in 1816; married Barbara NOEL on 17 Oct 1837); Peter (married Sarah HAUDESHELL on 1 Feb 1838). -------- (2) John KIME of Franklin township. This John KIME first appears in the 1820 Census as 'John KIME Jr' and is probably the son of John KIME Sr (above). Based on the 1820 and 1830 Census information, this John KIME was born between 1790 and 1794. He died in December? 1847 (will filed in 1847; first notice regarding letters of Administration for his estate shows up in Jan 1848 newspaper). The executor of the estate of John KIME (2) was his son-in-law, Daniel NEWMAN. The wife of John KIME (2) was named Elizabeth per church baptism records. Based on Census records, John KIME (2) and Elizabeth were married before 1820. Elizabeth died on 9 Mar 1848, aged 54 years 11 months and 7 days per newspaper obit. NOTE: one of these Elizabeths [wife of John KIME (1) or wife of John KIME (2)] was the daughter of Henry WALTER of Franklin township. Henry WALTER's will, written on 9 December 1824, mentions daughter Elizabeth, wife of John KIME. POSSIBLE!!! children of John (2) and Elizabeth KIME: Margaretha (baptism record in 1825), Samuel (baptism record in 1828), Susanna (married Daniel NEWMAN on 4 Jun 1844; identified as eldest daughter in marriage notice). -------- (3) John KIME of Menallen & Butler townships. This John KIME shows up in the 1830 through 1860 Adams County, PA Census records. Per Census and newspaper obit records he was born about 1801 and died on 19 May 1862, aged 60 years, 10 mos and 3 days. He is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Arendtsville, Adams County, Pennsylvania next to his son, Ephraim, who also died in 1862. The wife of John KIME (3) was Sarah GROOP. Per a newspaper notice, they were married on 30 Sep 1824. The mother of John KIME (3) was Barbara (maiden name unknown). Will of Jacob WIDAW of Menallen township, written on 24 Dec 1827, mentions John KIME, son of Jacob's wife Barbara. Barbara WEIDNER, age 73, is listed in the household of John KIME (3) in the 1850 Census. Per a newspaper obit, Barbara WEIDAW, mother of John KIME, died on 3 Nov 1854, aged 78 years and 29? days.
