A couple of you have inquired whether there will be some sort of event next year acknowledging the arrival of Johannes Keim settling in the Oley Valley. Nancy Kime is organizing a 300th anniversary celebration for the weekend of Oct. 6-7, 2007. It is a gigantic task and she can use any help anyone offers... thoughts, ideas, comments, etc. Every little bit of input will help make the weekend "one to remember." Nancy needs a planning committee to begin with... maybe one of you has organized or helped with something like this before. If you can help, please contact Nancy at <[email protected]> Even if you can't do much! A lot of volunteers will make the celebration "doable." __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Also don't leave out KIEHM. I never see this spelling and it is my Great Great Grandmothers married name, BERTHA KIEHM. She was married to Louis KIEHM ABT 1844, Prussia. They had 10 children. Emma, Louis F., Julius, Agustus, Minnie, Richard, Matilda, Rudolph, Harriet Susan (My Great Grandmother), Hedwig. I haven't found Bertha's maiden name so, that is a dead end for me there. Louis F. married Mary L. END in 1873 and had a daughter Bertha b. Abt 1874 named after his Mother. Harriet Susan, married Carl Henry SCHUENEMANN Abt. 1882 Cook Co. Ill. They are both my Great Grandparents. They had 9 children. Alfred, Florence (My Grandmother), Erma, Bernard, Raymond, Carl Henry Schuenemann JR., Robert and Irene. Last known address, Chicago, Ill. 1920. The KIEHM surname may have been changed by some of the children and I guess, if thats the case I will never know unless, someone out there has a piece to my puzzle. I have found KIEHM in Hawaii but, they are oriental and I don't think related. If you have a KIEHM in your tree, or have leads to the surname I would like to hear from you. Regards, Patricia

I located baptism records for 3 children born to Jacob FREY and Elisabeth KEIM (daughter of Johannes KEIM (1754-1815) and Elizabeth KLOESS (1756-1837) of Northampton Co., PA. Jacob FREY d. after 1831 +m Elisabeth KEIM (b. 13 Jul 1787 - d. between 1822-1831) issue: -Hannah FREY b. 5 Apr 1810 bp. 27 Oct 1811 (sponsors: John & Elizabeth KEIM) -Joshua FREY b. 20 Mar 1812 bp. 12 Apr 1812 (sponsors: Valentine & Maria KEIM) -Maria FREY b. 18 Dec 1819 bp. 9 Jan 1820 (sponsors: Jacob & Christena KEIM) All 3 children above baptised by Rev. Jacob Reiss, Trinity Reformed Church, Springfield Twp., Bucks Co., PA. When Elizabeth KLOESS' will was written in 1831, she referred to her 'deceased daughter's two children' and left them a kitchen cupboard. At this point, I am uncertain which two children inherited. I am happy, however, to have located some records in Bucks County! Penny

From: [email protected] Date: 02/20/2006 Hoffman's book on Polish surnames says: "In proper Polish spelling k- can never be followed by -e, so names beginning Ke- are probably misspellings of Kie- or of Ke-(with diacritical below e) or are foreign in origin, especially German). In Bahlow's (German) surname book - perhaps what began as an -i- in old script was really a -ü-? Kienle (Swabian) see Kühnle). Kiencke, Künicke, Kiem, Kiehl, Kienzle, Keimel. ________________________ Point being - don't be too quick to discount variations in spelling... different parts of the world spell the KEIM surname differently. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? If you look at censuses, you find the name spelled a lot of different ways. I've not come across the variation you ask about, but someone might have mistaken the name, pronounced it differently, and written the surname that way. In the 1920 census there are two KIME children, Dorothy E, 15 ID and Banks D., 13 ID—Mother, Josephine W, 38 NV. She was married to Walter B. Ellis, 39 TN who had two children Marian J Ellis, 9 WA and Betty Jane Ellis, 2 2/12 WA.
