    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Daniell_Keeney Surnames: Keeney Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.keeney/815.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: And here I am replying to my own post. The first issue of the new newsletter "The Keeney Researcher an online genealogy newsletter" has just been posted. Here is the link to use http://k-f-g-online.info/TKR/defauft.html when the next issue is posted I will use the same link but it will have #INDEX at the end which will take you right to the section of the page from which you can choose which issue you want to read. Each issue is being posted in 3 formats html which is the online version, a PDF version a portable document file and a MS word document. Each version has it's advantages and disadvantages the online version is basically one continuous page and if you print it the pages breaks are not the best in formatting which is why we decided to have the word document and the PDF as the formatting for each page can be controlled and you do not get funny page breaks. As for downloading the issues of the newsletter the smaller of the latter two files will always be the PDF over the word file. The number of pages and the sizes of the files will be posted beside the links for these 2 files. Issue one is 11 pages in length and the PDF version is 1.59mb whereas the word document is 12.9mb. But why 3 versions? That's simple some people do not what to download files so we have the online version. Some people do not like large files so we use the PDF. Extracting sections is possible but sometimes not so easy. Some people want to be able to copy items easily from a newsletter so we have the word version. Now copying of these is allowed and it would be nice to have it noted where the information was obtained but you can use your own judgement on that issue. Feel free to share each issue with others researching the Keeney lines and don't forget to share items for the newsletter by sending them in to either Mary Winner or Dan Keeney you can get the email links for either of us from the link above or from each issue of the newsletter. If you are on Facebook I also have an open group page there called The Keeney Researcher where you can share anything that pertains to the various Keeney lines what ever they maybe photos, links or? https://www.facebook.com/groups/1477881922462400/ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Daniell_Keeney Surnames: Keeney Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.keeney/815/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I know I gave up on doing a newsletter, BUT I believe we still need one. With that said I present the following: The Keeney Researcher an online genealogy newsletter No issues have been created yet but this is to let you know that items are needed. The Keeney Researcher an online genealogy newsletter. Is looking for those people researching the various Keeney lines that are willing to share with others that are doing the same. If you think about the brick walls you have run into it makes sense to share as someone else may have gotten past that same brick wall that will enable you to leap ahead in your research. So why not share? What to share? Research of course. Photographs. Stories. Tell others about your research interests, which line(s) you are following, a brick wall you have gotten past, one that you have not past, family stories that you are ancestors have past down, anything else you may have reason to believe others may like to know. As those of you that are familiar whit this site know I had a previous newsletter called the KFG online newsletter you can access the back issues from here. I was to ambitious and tried to do one issue each month. Right now with this new newsletter I would like to put out between 2 & 4 issues a year, of course that depends on the participation of other researchers. If enough information comes in it is possible more issues would be forth coming. Of course I did not want to try this by myself again and Mary J. Keeney Winner has volunteered to help with this, she is also typing out all of Roscoe C. Keeneys Keeney Updates into a word format and you can download each issue as either a doc(x) or a PDF of the retyped issue and the old PDF's are still here though some are hard to read. Also please note there is a Keeney Researchers Register on the site that you can register for and if you want to have your database posted (privatized), or what to send in a bunch of photos to share I can create a directory for you at no charge. Though you need to send me the items to place in the directory, which will allow a cohesive look and feel to the site. website: http://k-f-g-online.info Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Keeney (1938-1911) who married Susan Delany Swank (1845-1933).There was so many Jonathans in the Keeney family it was most confusing. Only hope that what I have is correct. 2. I'm looking for two Keeney researchers I had contact with via e-mail back in 2003 - at that time Ray Kinney was online as _rkinney@centurytel.net_ (mailto:rkinney@centurytel.net) and John Gaines III was online at _aloha4@bellsouth.net_ (mailto:aloha4@bellsouth.net) . I have acquired an original Keeney Bible beginning with Simon J (or G) Keeney and Louisa Robinson Keeney and continuing on down to Loring Grant Keeney and Mary Jane Rice Keeney. The bible contains photos and family birth, death, marriage pages. It is a HUGE bible. I would like it to find a home among people of this Keeney line. Only cost would be postage for shipping, which is about $16.00. It was purchased at an estate sale and offered to me by the purchaser who found some of my on-line posts relating to the Mandana Bradley line. Because Ray Kinney and John Gaines were so helpful to me in my own research, I would like to give them first chance at this bible; if I don't find them, then I would be amenable to passing it on to someone else in this direct line. (included are pictures of Cora May, Helen Louisa, Katherine, Edward Milton, and W. F. Keeney, as well as Cynthia Rice, sister of Mary Jane Rice Keeney. Please contact me if you can help me, or if you are interested. Bobby Dobbins Title

    1. [KEENEY] James, Jonathan and John Keeney VA to Crawford County, MO
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: IsabelCrab Surnames: Crabtree, Keeney, Whitecotton, Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.keeney/813/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Everyone, I am SURE my guys fit into the huge Keeney clan out of Virginia, but I just don't know HOW and I'm hoping someone else knows! Here's what I know for sure. My great grandfather James J Keeney b. 1849 in Missouri (some say middle initial C, but his headstone says J) married Christina Whitecotton on 12/23/1869 in Crawford County, Mo. Christina born 1851 but her family is from Circleville, Pendleton Co, VA (now WV) Her father James Whitecotton, his wife Nancy (Raines) and their SON SALEM are documented Pendleton Co. WV Salem born approx. 1822?. So this puts Christina's family living close to all those Keeneys in VA...Which is why I think James and his family are from there. James and Christina's children were William Franklin Keeney, Andrew Jackson (A.J. or Jack) Keeney, David Asa Keeney and much later, Ana (Anna) Elizabeth Keeney (married my grandfather, John Willis Crabtree of Bourbon, Mo.) James' siblings include John T (buried in Hardy Cemetery Liberty township, MO with James and family), Sarah Catherine, Nancy Elizabeth, Pauline, Daniel and Alice Lugene. James' father was John Jonathan, (Given on the 1870 CENSUS - Cuba, Liberty Township, Crawford County, MO as JOHN and on Sigler family website called Jonathan) who I have various (possibly wrong) birthplaces for, like Keanne, Henry Co. Illinois or KY...John/Jonathan born 1810. Census states both parents born KY. James' mother is Elizabeth Siegler/Sigelar (spelled many ways) b: 2 JAN 1818 in Caldwell County, Kentucky, they were married in Caldwell Co. KY 10 Jan 1837. According to one person there are two Keeneys in Caldwell Co., KY in 1840, James & Jonathan. James was 30-40 yrs., wife 40-50, dau. 5-10y, two sons 0-5, 1 son 5-01y, 1 son 10-15. Jonathan was 20-30 yrs, wife 20-30y, one dau. (poss. Sarah, 0-5yrs. No other children at the time. Thus I think that James (who's married to Christina Whitecotton)'s grandfather may be named James as well. Or this could be his brother... So this is what I KNOW for sure! I am assuming at sometime there is a connection with VA because of where James finds Christina.... Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Isabel But I CANT fit these people IN ANYWHERE!! I know my John Jonathan is not the guy who went to Oregon with the wagon train-that guy died in OR and my guy died in Crawford Co. Mo. Going back a few generations Andrew's father was James, his mother was Christina Whitecotton, James father was Jonathan, and his father John, but then that's a brick wall currently. The Whitecotton and Conrad (Christina's mother) names trace back to England (White and Cotton, very early Jamestown settlers, one guy was Bishop of Exeter) and the Conrad/Kuhnradt/Cunrad name traces back to 1430. That family was Menonnites fleeing persecution in Switzerland. I'm adding a picture... That's Christina, Andrew, William (oldest brother) and Ana my grandmother. Ana is 20 years younger than her brother William, a lawyer. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: DonaldCharlesMcGlothlen Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.keeney/808.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Don McGlothlen 14 October 2013 transcription of General George E. Keeney article from page 1 of Keeney Update, Volume 2, Number 4, September 1985: "General George E. Keeney, son of Rockwell Keeney, was born March 22, 1849, at South Manchester, Connecticut. After working his way through Cheshire Military School, he joined his father and brothers in the woolen mill business, which operated under the name of R. Keeney and Sons until 1883, when it became the Somersville Manufacturing Co. From 1845 to 1900 he was president of Hartford Life Insurance Co. Elected twice to the state senate, he married Helen Benison (DCM: Denison?) on August 12, 1873. His children were Elizabeth (Mrs. Lewis Gordon, vice president of Hartford Life), Raymond G., Yale graduate and vice president of Hartford Life, and Laure (Mrs. James Moore). General Keeney was a 7th Generation Keeney in America and a direct descendant of Alexander Keeney, pioneer settler. Alexander's son Joseph was the father of Ashbel Keeney I, and was father of Ashel (DCM: sic) II, who was father of Ashbel III, who was father of Rockwell Keeney. Members of this family are still engaged in medicine and business in the New England states." Don McGlothlen, McGlothlen Family Historian PS. Recently found in a visit to the (East) Tennessee Archives by John N. Turley is record of the marriage of Susey McGlothlin (sic) and John Keeney, on 15 February 1796 and 18 February in Jefferson Co, TN. This was a record of both the publishing and the marriage. Source data numbers are mar1796215-0001-01 and mar179602-0001-002. Also, explicit land records were identified for several Keeneys and John McLaughlin/McGlothlen/McGlothlin very close by in Cocke Co along Sinking Creek. Both are within wagon rides to the Big Pigeon Baptist Church meeting places of that time. It seems apparent from the latest records that more than one John Keeney located in the East TN area and that 'ours' lived adjacent to Dandridge...........
