    1. [Kasl] Gatewayed Message Board posts
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hi folks, In the past, the Kasl Message Board posts were "gatewayed" to this list, so list subscribers could "click the link" and reply on the board if they were interested in the post. Since the recent list changes, those gateway posts are just gobbledegook which I can't allow to post here. The Rootsweb Product Manager has told us listowners to just discard these malformed posts, and that the posts we used to see here will not return. She has advised us to tell researchers to visit the Message Board they are interested in and to subscribe to the threads and/or whole boards in which we are interested. Our Message Board is here: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kasl/mb.ashx I personally try to remember to post to the board as well as the list to get as wide readership as possible. The boards are powerful because they are found by search engines, and one can attach photos and other images to posts, which is not possible here on the list. 1. [Kasl] Rootsweb lists are alive again!
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hello everybody, After some months, RootsWeb mailing lists are up and running on updated software. A few things are changed, some for the better. One of the items currently being addressed is why messages from subscribers are not always going directly to the list. Sometimes these posts are being held for administrative action. This could be because the poster - although subscribed to the list - may not be registered with RootsWeb. So my advice is to register with RootsWeb. It takes only a few moments and might fix the posting issues. Instructions: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/setupmail If you had an account set up before, you can use the same email and username, but you *must* choose a new password. If you are an Ancestry member, please do not use the same password as you use there. One of the great things about registering is that you will be able to control many things about your list mail from Rootsweb without contacting the listowner. All the best, Valorie list admin -- http://about.me/valoriez

Author: kcskuba Surnames: Pajer, Kasl Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kasl/26/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, My family tree has a Anna Kasl married to a Joseph Pajer. Married 20 Nov 1926 in Manhattan NY (Cert # 34433) Joseph Pajer is related to me but I am having trouble finding information on Anna. She was born in Blatne Bohemia 28 Aug 1906. All info from her Naturalization papers point to a Kasl family in Ohio. Parents: Anton & Marie Kasl and brothers James and Joseph. As I search more this Kasl family doesn't seem to fit, as the obits of the brothers mention sister Ann with a last name of Goersmeyer. So I think I'm looking at the wrong Kasl Family. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [Kasl] Welcome to new list member Dale
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hi Dale! This list hasn't seen much traffic lately. Colin started up this list, but has gotten too busy with both high school *and* college to watch an email list. Since I have lots of lists, I'm watching it for him until he has time to research again. If you need the help of this group in your Kasl research, why not tell the rest of us what you know, and what you need help with. I'm willing to do census lookups and such -- just ask! Also, be sure to search the list archives, or the archives of ALL Rootsweb lists, at http://archiver.rootsweb.com . A search of all the lists gets 63 KASL matches! Valorie

    1. [Kasl] [ADMIN] New Boards, too!
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hi all. Any of you who use the Message Boards to post and answer queries, and share data you find with fellow researchers, have probably noticed a new look. Clicking on old Message Board links will take you to the correct board and thread, but perhaps not to the right message. With a very long thread, you may have scroll down the entire page, or even click to the next page. To post now, you MUST login. I think that's a good thing, because it will keep spammers off the boards. Please take the time to check your Public Profile (upper right-hand corner of the page) and fill it out with any information you would like fellow researchers to know about you. Oddly, you have a profile on both the Rootsweb and Ancestry sides, and they can be different! Although I don't know why you would want them to be. You can change information here at any time, and you need not have a public profile if you don't want one. Also important (and new) is that if you want people to be able to contact you by email, on the Ancestry side, at least, you have to click on My Site Preferences, and then "Display my email address to other members.Free for members to contact you." If you don't click this, people accessing the boards through Ancestry will not be able to see your email address, and will *only* be able to contact you by posting on the board, or through a new paid "Connection Service" where both sides remain anonymous. As you know, the Message Board, which has the new URL of http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kasl/mb.ashx is "gatewayed" to this list. Posters to the Board do *not* have to subscribe to the list, and many of them don't. Previously, you could reply to gatewayed Message Board posts by either replying on the list and CCing the poster, or clicking the link and replying on the board. From now on, the ONLY way to reply to the poster will be on the board. The poster's email no longer displays on the list copy of the board post. I don't like this, and don't know why it is the new policy, but that's the way it is, and if we want to effectively communicate to board posters, it will have to be by replying on the board from now on. Have you all used MyAccount at Rootsweb? Upper right-hand corner of the page, again. It takes a few minutes to enter all your email addresses in, but I've found it to be a very useful time-saver. If you haven't tried it, now is the time! Well, after Christmas, perhaps. :-) Happy Holidays, one and all, Valorie

    1. [Kasl] [ADMIN] We're here! AOLers, Digest subscribers, please take note
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Our list has been migrated to the new software and new server. Please place the new list address in your addressbook, if you have not done so already. **This is expecially important for AOL subscribers.** Please do it now. Also, check your spam folders. If you find list mail there then please be sure to CLICK the *THIS IS NOT SPAM* link to send the list mail to the inbox. It is VERY important to help train the filters and let AOL know that this new server can be trusted. If you have questions about AOL and Rootsweb, and how the new list software will affect you, then you can join the AOLers-Rootsweb email list by sending a new email to [email protected] with only the single comman subscribe in the subject line and body of the message. If you get email from another provider who filters SPAM for you, please do the same thing -- mark list posts as NOT SPAM if you find them in SPAM folders. Digest subscribers, once you get a digest or two, if you do not like the new format, drop me a note at the admin address and I'll change you back to MIME. [email protected], no -L, no -D. All the best, Valorie

    1. You may notice something different here, soon
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hi, all. Rootsweb is moving to a new list system, and our list is scheduled to be moved this week. You may notice nothing, or some small differences. You probably got an email from "[email protected]" explaining what was happening, unless it landed in your SPAM folder. If you need to see the entire email, please contact me privately. However, here is a list of the changes you might notice: 1. Digest subscribers will notice a small difference in the layout, volume and issue numbers of the list digests. If your digests arrive in a different format than you are used to and you would like it changed, contact me privately at the list admin address, which stays the same: [email protected] Also, if you run into any unusual or confusing occurrences with mail from this list that could possibly be related to the changeover, let me know at the admin address. 2. The "-L" is being dropped from the official list name. This means the "from" address your mailing list emails come from will be slightly different- [email protected] instead of the current [email protected] ** You may have to adjust your spam filters or put the new address on your "accept" list to prevent it from being caught in your "junk" folder. ** If you use email headers to filter list mail to a special folder in your email program, check whether your filters will need tweaking under the new system. 3. If you previously subscribed to the list in both L and D modes using the same email address you will find that you are no longer subbed in Digest mode. The new software doesn't permit the same address to be subbed in both L and D modes. Therefore, if you wish to receive both modes, you will need to subscribe to the digests using a different email address. Write to me at valorie dot zimmerman at gmail dot com if you would like an invite to gmail, one of the free email systems available. Yahoo and Hotmail will also work well. This sounds like a big change, but it doesn't have to change the way you use the list. Here's why: - You will still be able to send messages to the list using the "[email protected]" email address you use today. Additionally, you can choose to drop the "-L" and send your messages to [email protected] Both addresses will work after the list has been migrated. - You will still be able to subscribe and unsubscribe to the mail or digest mode by sending your request to [email protected] or [email protected] as you do today. You will also be able to unsubscribe from the mail or digest mode by sending your "unsubscribe" message to [email protected] Be sure to use the command in the Subject line, not just the body of the message. --- Please continue to send your queries, data, and responses to the list as usual. It is a great time to post a new query to try to break down those brick walls. I have a number of lists moving this week; sorry for the form letter! Eventually we will all be very happy that this move was made, difficult as it is for the staff and list administrators right now. It's like moving from an old house with a leaky roof and bad plumbing into a new modern place -- very cool, but the move is still difficult! All the best, Valorie PS: Exact timing of the move: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html
