    3. "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Friday, June 2, 1899 IS ARRESTED BY A WOMAN Much surprise was occasioned at police headquarters last night when Mrs. (Elizabeth) FAULKNER, the energetic little matron, walked into the station followed by a big strapping fellow whom she had taken into custody and marched to the lockup all by herself. The man's name is Edward JESSUP and the charge placed against him on the police blotter was that of the non-support of his family. Yesterday, Mrs. JESSUP, with her two little children, applied to Chief McFARLAND for assistance and they were turned over to Mrs. FAULKNER, the matron, who administered to their wants. Upon hearing the woman's story, Mrs. FAULKNER determined to search out JESSUP and see what was the cause of his neglect of his family. She called at the place where the family had been living and found JESSUP in the act of moving away the household furniture. Not only did the brave little matron make him desist, but she made him go with her to the police station, a distance of more than a dozen blocks, and there filed a complaint against him. JESSUP was locked up and on the prison ledger the name of Mrs. FAULKNER appears as the arresting officer, the first instance in the history of Kansas City, Kan., where a woman actually made an arrest. ================================================= (I have no connection with these people but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) =================================================
