"The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Wednesday, May 8, 1912 WIRE MASKS FOR THE DOGS Every dog in Kansas City may have to be muzzled for the next sixty days. A resolution asking Mayor JOST to issue a proclamation to that effect was adopted by the hospital and health board yesterday afternoon. The resolution asks, further, that dog owners be given a week after the proclamation is issued to provide the muzzles, and that the police be instructed to shoot on view all unmuzzled dogs they see beyond that time. Four cases of rabies are being treated at the General Hospital, and Dr. L. W. LUSCHER, superintendent, believes two others will develop as a result of the presence of a mad dog in the vicinity of Swope Settlement. Five children were attached by the dog, which was afterward killed by the father of one. Its head was examined by a pathologist at the hospital, and the dog was found to have had rabies. Mayor JOST said last night that he had not been notified of the resolution. "Before I take such action, I want to confer with the health authorities and make sure that it is necessary," he said. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this person but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) ======================================================
