Dick, I did a little newspaper searching today but ran out of time before I could find anything. I had to look up a couple of marriages using the Jackson County Marriage Index, so I decided to look up WARK-SUMMER while I had the microfilm. Are you sure that Robert B. and Harriet were married in Kansas City? I could not find them in the marriage index. I looked in the Jackson County-Independence and Jackson County- Kansas City index for both brides and grooms. The only WARK I found was: 1918 - Robert F. WARK - Ellen L. ROTH Before I do anymore searching, please confirm that you're sure they were married in Kansas City, Missouri. The newspapers for 1893 are very difficult to read because of the quality of the film. The marriage of Robert B. Wark to Harriet Summer was on 14 June 1893 in Kansas City, Missouri. I really appreciate your help. I use to be a member of this list when I was tracking my Looney's a couple of years ago, but dropped off as I started on a couple of other lines. I subscribed again to this list on March 3rd, so I missed your notice. You seem to be doing quite a bit of research in the area (date) of my interest. Again, thanks for responding. Hi John, I rec'd the KC Star front pages for 8-10-1934, 7-20-1934 and great uncle Guy FORTUNE's 1922 obit in Saturday's mail--THANK YOU SO MUCH. I got out my great grandmother Mary E. (BEDELL) CAMPBELL SALTAR's death certificate to see the time of day she died on August 10, 1934--it was 1:30 p.m. with the temperature between 106 and 107 degrees! BTW, to illustrate how such documents can lead a researcher astray: 1. Her surname was misspelled SALTER. 2. Her late 2nd husband's name was mistakenly given as John SALTER (correct: Thomas Richard SALTAR). 3. Her father's surname was given as BIRDWELL (correct: BEDELL) 4. Her mother's maiden name was given as DICKSON (correct: DICKINSON) If I wasn't absolutely sure it was her, I'd have been on several wild goose chases. Anyway, thanks again for the information to fill in the blanks on the KC heat wave of 1934 and how it affected my great grandmother. Sincerely, Joyce, Dolores CO rjl@fone.net
