    3. "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Monday, November 6, 1916 A POLICE CHIEF ON BOOZE. N. A. HARRIS, chief of police of Independence, talked yesterday afternoon at the First Baptist Church, and at the Watson Memorial Methodist Church at night. He had been asked to tell what proportion of the criminal cases he had handled in his office are due, directly or indirectly to the use of intoxicants. His answer was "90 per cent." While no intoxicants can be sold, legally, in Independence, there is considerable bootlegging there; and many Independence men, after drinking in Sheffield, return home intoxicated and are arrested. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this person but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) ======================================================
