    3. "The Kansas City Journal" (Missouri) Saturday, July 11, 1903 DEATHS AND FUNERALS. Mrs. David I. CALDWELL, mother of the mayor of Independence, died yesterday at her home on East Short street in that city. She was 83 years old and was one of the pioneer women of Independence. When she first came to Kansas City it was only a little landing on the Missouri river and had no commercial standing whatever. She leaves a large family of grandsons and granddaughters, most of whom still live in Independence. No funeral arrangements have been made. "The Kansas City Journal" (Missouri) Sunday, July 12, 1903 The funeral of Mrs. David I. CALDWELL will take place this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the residence on East Short street, Independence, and will be conducted by Rev. J. W. Wallace and W. L. Hickman, of the Westminster Presbyterian church. Mrs. CALDWELL was 83 years of age at the time of her death. She was educated at Cincinnati, Ohio, in a school taught by Harriet Beecher Stowe. She married D. I. CALDWELL, now deceased, in 1883 and came to Jackson county in 1837. She leaves three children, Thomas C. CALDWELL, James S. CALDWELL, and Fannie CALDWELL, and two grandchildren, Ruth and Bertha CALDWELL. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this person but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) ====================================================== "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Wednesday, November 22, 1911 Thomas C. CALDWELL, justice of the peace and ex-mayor of Independence, died at his home, 419 West Farmer Street, Independence, at 10 o'clock last night. While Judge CALDWELL was at the table Monday noon, he was stricken with paralysis. He did not recover consciousness before his death. He was 72 years old. ================================================== "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Thursday, November 23, 1911 Funeral services for Thomas C. CALDWELL, justice of the peace and acting police judge at Independence, who died of paralysis Tuesday night, will be held at the home, 419 West Farmer Street, at 3 o'clock this afternoon. The Rev. C. C. McGINLEY, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence will have charge of the ceremony. Burial will be in the Independence city cemetery. =================================================== "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Friday, November 24, 1911 At the funeral services of Thomas C. CALDWELL in Independence yesterday afternoon a Confederate flag was the design of one of the floral offerings. It was a tribute to his service for the Confederacy all through the Civil War under Gen. Sterling PRICE and other commanders. Funeral services were conducted at the home, 419 West Farmer Street, by the Rev. C. C. McGINLEY, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Music was rendered by a quartet composted of Mayor Llewellyn JONES, J. L. YANTIS, Mrs. Fred C. CHILD and miss Mabel SOUTHERN. The pallbearers were J. M. CHANEY, H. H. PENDLETON, J. L. YANTIS, Dr. O. C. SHELEY, John D. STROTHER and E. M. ARNOLD. The Rev. Mr. McGINLEY referred to the public services of Justice CALDWELL as a former mayor of Independence and in the office of police judge. Burial was in the city cemetery, where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David CALDWELL, were buried. ============================================
