"The Kansas City Journal" (Missouri) Monday, August 21, 1882 A CHURCH INCIDENT. The thoughts of church goers, while in sanctuaries, are not always on religious subjects. Yesterday morning the organist of the Walnut Street M. E. church, was making the organ fairly roar. Suddenly he changed its tone, and instead of the loud, roaring sound, there were soft, sweet tones, which are so pleasing to the ear. Just after the change had been made, a lady of the congregation, in a voice that could be heard throughout the greater part of the room, exclaimed to a woman seated beside her: "We fry ou'rn in butter." The two had evidently been discussing subjects connected with the kitchen, and owing to the organ's roar, had been talking loudly.
