Hi JoLynne, Thanks for responding. I don't think that there is a connection, at least not that I'm aware of. My grandfather, Ralph BARNES, was born in 1907 in either Oklahoma or Arkansas (records differ) but lived most of his life in KCMO. He died there in 1959. His father's name was Robert. Robert was born in Missouri in 1859 (not sure where) and died in White Hall, IL in 1913. I have only been able to find that Ralph had two BARNES sisters but had other half siblings with different last names (great-grams married 6 times!). My father was Ralph's only son, that I know of.
