So far as I know there isn't/wasn't? a Penn Creek, to form 'Penn Valley' -- or maybe there was in the early years? Anyone know? I tried a web search but got nowhere. Vanette Maybe it was for William Penn whose vision was for a Land of Promise. After all were we not the gateway to the west and in some cases the phrase "the promised land" came into play. Just a guess of course. Vivian **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! 3. Hello Vanette; The Scout Statue in Penn Valley Park is pointing directly downtown towards the the old Power and Light building that had a top that changed colors at night. Orange, green ,and white. I know because I lived one block north of the scout and across the street west of there. 2724 Summit St which is now an Expressway. As a young boy I sat upon this horse many days playing and also many nights playing indian with boyhood friends. As you are sitting on the horse, looking at about one oclock and straight down into the trees, there is a large lake, and if you follow the trees south there is a small creek that always had water running into the lake. Looking east from the scout, (hidden from view by the indian) is the Kansas City, MO., Liberty Memorial. Upon top of that hill farther south is the location of the "Pioneer Mother". Right directly behind the Scout there were several tennis courts. Penn Valley Park at the time, was a hugh park stretching north to south 6 to 8 blocks. There was also a Penn St. which is no longer there. I was born on Penn St. Although I have never heard of the origin of the name of the park. I always believed it was named after William Penn.
