    3. I've lived in the suburbs on the Kansas side for almost 12 years. What I didn't know when I came here was that my grandmother, a GRAY, was born in KC MO, and her family lived in Jackson County for several generations, since before the civil war. Her grandparents and great-grandparents are buried in Woodlawn Cem. in Independence. She moved to Colorado as a child, where most of my family lives today. I watch the list for information on these family members, I've gotten several obits that John has posted. My Great-grandfather, James L. GRAY, was Jackson Co. sheriff in 1870. My great-great grandfather William Thomas owned the farm where the log cabin that's now attached to the back of the old log courthouse was originally built. From his family bible it appears that he may have been the father of Emily FISHER, a freed slave who was an early black business woman in the city. The family plot at Woodlawn has a large tombstone, the base of which is a pink stone that appears to be Pikes Peak granite, so I like to think that this part of the stone was brought from Colorado by my great-grandfather James William Thomas GRAY when he came for his mother's funeral in 1916. Your location - city and state .......... or just state How you are connected to Kansas City, MO or Kansas City, KS What you hope to gain by being a member of the KC Mailing List Your family name - first, first & last, or none. 3. BUD"S reply Your location - city and state .......... or just state West Central Mo. How you are connected to Kansas City, MO or Kansas City, KS Lived &worked there What you hope to gain by being a member of the KC Mailing List People and History Your family name - first, first & last, or none. I prefer to the list to be just BUD> John as you know I appreciate the Old obits and enjoy the civil and social Items you find. I also liked the chatter "Remembering KC". Since heart surgery wiped my memory, I used it to help restore what I once knew. Hearing about what I will call odd ball things is always interesting. I always want to know the rest of the story. What has happen with the persons trying to find out more about the ceramic tombstones? What has happen with the corpse and Iron Casket from one of Lexington Mo. cemeteries? The theatre history and movie houses. And the many unique homes and buildings of Kansas city are among my interest. The stuff that never reaches "national News" Biggest reason Is genealogy; LEE, Bramblett, Embree< Baker , Rhodes, WEST, Littleton, a big problem, Samuels, WILLIAMS, no less than 3 deferent lines, Wright again three different line. Common ground Kentucky with Virginia and North Carolina connections. Oh I forgot TITUS and Cleavenger, Marrant too. Bud.
