Below is a posting I made back in June and a great-granddaughter's response, which I thought you would "enjoy": ======================================================= "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Friday, September 19, 1913 MAN THREW ACID AT HER. Miss Virginia GAUEN, who lives at the Essex Hotel, told the police last night that a man threw acid on her in an attempt to disfigure her. She was standing at Twelfth and Locust streets at 10 o'clock last night when, she says, the man appeared before her suddenly and threw the acid at her face. She jumped back and it struck her dress, burning and ruining it. ======================================================= Yes, that would be my great grandmother. She was a real piece of work. The way my grandma talked the wicked witch of the west had nothing on her. The thing was she was extremely pretty, a model for Sax Fifth Avenue. She just wasn't very pretty on the inside from what I understand. She probably did something to deserve the acid thing. =====
