Oleon GILLIAM of 1010 Harrison street, the prize winner in the first of a series of roller skating races at the Convention hall rink this week, feel to the floor faint from exhaustion just as he passed under the tape last night. He was assisted to a bench where he soon recovered. The race was between Kansas City, Mo., skaters and included ten contestants. They were: Oleon GILLIAM Scott WALKER Clare MARTIN Carroll FOWLER Otto BAER H. GRAVES George McMAHON Robert McCLINTOCK Harry KOOKEN Richard MARSH The race was for one mile, or fourteen laps around the big hall. The judges were: John T. ELKINS C. E. LYLE W. H. DEPPEN GILLIAM and WALKER were by far the fastest skaters on the floor. They were close together all the way round, with first one and then the other in the lead. GILLIAM is 17 years old and a student at Manual Training high school. He is considerably smaller than WALKER and was the favorite. A large crowd witnessed the sport and the interest was intense. To-night's entries for the race between Kansas City, Kas., skaters are as follows: H. H. SMART M. A. BRODIE George LINE J. R. DUFF E. C. AKERS Lee JUDY F. JAMISON Harry AMEND John E. COWLES C. L. BEYER It will start at 9 o'clock.
