"The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Wednesday, April 3, 1912 A FARM HOME FOR THE SICK. Tubercular patients in Wyandotte County may yet have a place to go to where they can get pure air and plenty of fresh eggs and milk. The commissioners of Kansas City, Kas., yesterday promised T. J. LYONS, county commissioner, the use of the farm and buildings formerly used for smallpox patients. Mr. LYONS said the county commissioners would make necessary changes in the buildings and furnish the food. There are six cottages on the 26-acre farm. The farm was used to isolate smallpox patients until three years ago. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ======================================================

John and KC List, The cause of death of Mr. Bischoff's record reads: "Traumatic Pneumonia (lobar)" with Contributing cause "Septicemic arm caused by jumping from hosp. window in delirium." It appears he went out the window at some undetermined time prior to his death, otherwise his arm would not have been infected enough to contribute to his death. The length of illness is not reflected on his death certificate. Poor guy. Joyce Lawrence rjl@fone.net
OK, you win. We got two bodies, one an Afro-American who jumps out of the Kansas hospital and the Filipino who takes a dive from the old General Hospital, just around the corner from the OLD Research Hospital which you've probably never seen because it's probably long gone. Used to call it Hospital Hill- we were real fancy with our terminology in KC when I grew up!! And if patient from KCK had gone to General Hospital, he would have had to go to General Hospital Number Two, cause we didn't mix bodies in the same beds in those days. He could clean and cook for me, but never use the same bed that I did nor drink from the same fountain. In a message dated 1/1/2009 2:42:22 P.M. "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Tuesday, May 19, 1914 LOCKED IN A SALOON ICE BOX. After locking Dominick FOTO, proprietor of a saloon at 300 Grand Avenue, and Max WEGSTEIN, his bartender, in an ice box, at 12:30 o'clock this morning, two white men robbed the cash register in the saloon of $10. FOTO and WEGSTEIN were becoming numb from cold, when their cries for help attracted the attention of a negro who had entered the saloon. Both were released. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ======================================================

"The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Monday, May 18, 1914 SPENT $2,000 IN FIVE MONTHS. After commenting on the fine night, Harry A. MOORE, 41 years old, walked from the street in front of the Terminal Hotel, 1422 Main Street, to his room in the building last night and committed suicide by drinking poison. He was dead before Dr. William HINES of the Emergency Hospital reached the hotel. He had been talking with several roomers at the hotel before entering the hotel. January 1, Moore lost his left arm while on duty as a switchman for the Rock Island Railroad. Since that time he has been out of employment. Five months ago MOORE received $2,000 from the railroad company for the loss of his arm. According to friends, he died destitute. They say he has been remorseful lately because of his prodigality. Dr. Fritz MOENNIGHOFF sent MOORE's body to Quirk & Tobin's undertaking rooms. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ======================================================
